In short
- Start every caption and on-screen label with a word from ASCI's list: Advertisement, Ad, Sponsored, Collaboration, Partnership, Employee, Free gift or Affiliate, or a platform tool.
- Match the line to the deal: Ad or Sponsored for paid posts, Free gift for product-only, Affiliate where the creator earns per sale. Pair each with the platform tool.
- Add category lines where rules demand them: qualifications for health and finance advice, ASCI's crypto disclaimer, an AI label and a virtual-influencer line.
- Live streams, podcasts and replays need spoken or added lines. ASCI wants the label announced at the start and end, and added to the caption if a replay stays visible.
A disclosure line is the short sentence a creator puts first in a caption, on screen or in speech to tell viewers that a post is an ad. ASCI permits any one or more of eight labels, which are Advertisement, Ad, Sponsored, Collaboration, Partnership, Employee, Free gift and Affiliate, or a platform disclosure tool. The label must be upfront and prominent, and in English or the language of the ad. This post turns those words into lines you can paste into a brief.
Our post on disclosure hashtags and labels explains which tags are safe and where labels sit in each format, and our ASCI influencer guidelines explainer covers the rules in full. Here you get the sentences. This post sits under our complete guide to influencer marketing in India.
How to use this library
ASCI's text gives the label list, the placement and timing rules and a few quoted disclaimers. Everything else on this page is drafting we suggest, so treat each line as a starting point: have your legal team review it once, then reuse it. Three working rules apply throughout:
- The listed label word comes first, before any hook or hashtag.
- Fill the brackets with the real brand name and the real deal. A line that says "paid" when the post was gifted is a new problem.
- Give creators the exact line. "Disclose as per ASCI" produces twenty different captions.
Caption openers by deal type
ASCI's test is a material connection: money, free or discounted products even if unsolicited, gifts, trips, barter, awards, contest entries, and family or employment ties. Pick the line that matches what actually happened.
| Deal | Line to paste | Hindi line (our drafting) |
|---|---|---|
| Paid post | Ad: paid partnership with [Brand]. | विज्ञापन: [ब्रांड] के साथ पेड पार्टनरशिप। |
| Paid, sponsored wording | Sponsored by [Brand]. | प्रायोजित: [ब्रांड]। |
| Product only, no fee | Free gift from [Brand]: they sent me this to try. | मुफ़्त उपहार: [ब्रांड] ने यह प्रोडक्ट मुझे भेजा। |
| Paid and keeps the product | Ad: paid partnership with [Brand]. I also kept the product. | विज्ञापन: [ब्रांड] के साथ पेड पार्टनरशिप। प्रोडक्ट भी मेरे पास रहा। |
| Paid per sale or click | Affiliate link. I earn a commission if you buy through it. Ad: partnership with [Brand]. | एफिलिएट: इस लिंक से खरीदने पर मुझे कमीशन मिलता है। |
| Discount code | Ad: use code [CODE] for [x] percent off at [Brand]. I earn when it is used. | विज्ञापन: [ब्रांड] पर [x] प्रतिशत छूट के लिए कोड [CODE]। कोड चलने पर मुझे कमाई होती है। |
| Barter | Ad: I received [service] from [Brand] in return for this post. | विज्ञापन: इस पोस्ट के बदले [ब्रांड] से [सेवा] मिली। |
| Giveaway | Ad: giveaway run with [Brand]. Full rules at [link or place]. | विज्ञापन: [ब्रांड] के साथ गिवअवे। पूरे नियम [जगह] पर। |
| Brand's own staff | Employee: I work at [Brand]. | कर्मचारी: मैं [ब्रांड] में काम करता/करती हूँ। |
| Long-term partner | Ad: I am a [Brand] partner for [period]. | विज्ञापन: मैं [अवधि] के लिए [ब्रांड] की पार्टनर हूँ। |
For giveaways, the line is not the whole job. ASCI's Code asks advertisers who invite the public into prize competitions to state all material conditions clearly, so the full rules must live somewhere easy to find.
On-screen and spoken lines by format
The placement and timing rules are in the hashtag post and the ASCI guide. This table gives the lines.
| Format | On-screen line | Spoken line | Timing to meet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reel or video of 15 seconds or less | Ad: paid partnership with [Brand] | "This is a paid partnership with [Brand]." | On screen at least 3 seconds |
| Video over 15 seconds, under 2 minutes | Same | Same, said before the first product mention | On screen for one third of the video |
| Video of 2 minutes or more | Ad: paid promotion by [Brand] | "The next part is a paid promotion from [Brand]." | On screen for the whole section that mentions the brand |
| Story or picture without a caption | Ad: [Brand], superimposed | None needed on a silent frame | Superimposed and clearly visible; we put it on every frame that shows the product |
| Static post or carousel | First line of caption, and the first slide | None | Visible before any "more" cut-off |
YouTube
YouTube's help page says that selecting the paid promotion setting adds a disclosure label at the start of the video, and that creators and partners remain responsible for legal requirements. Use the tool and add three lines.
- Spoken, before the integration: "This part of the video includes a paid promotion from [Brand]."
- On screen, for the whole brand section: "Ad: paid promotion by [Brand]".
- First line of the description: "Ad: includes a paid promotion from [Brand]."
Live streams, replays and podcasts
ASCI says a live-stream label must be announced at the beginning and the end, and that disclosure must be added to the text or caption if the post stays visible after the stream. For audio, it must be announced at the beginning, at the end, and before and after every break.
| Moment | Line |
|---|---|
| Live, opening | "Before we start: this stream is an ad. I am doing it in partnership with [Brand], and I am paid for it." |
| Live, closing | "A reminder that this stream was a paid partnership with [Brand]." |
| Replay caption | Ad: replay of a paid stream with [Brand]. |
| Podcast, start | "This episode is sponsored by [Brand]." |
| Podcast, around each break | "We will be right back. This episode is sponsored by [Brand]." / "Welcome back. This episode is sponsored by [Brand]." |
| Podcast, end and show notes | "That was a sponsored episode from [Brand]." / first line of notes: Sponsored by [Brand]. |
LinkedIn and other text posts
ASCI wants text-based disclosures at the top, not buried in hashtags or links. On LinkedIn, put "Ad: paid partnership with [Brand]." as the first line and switch on the Brand partnership toggle, which LinkedIn says is required when value is exchanged. For a thought leader ad, LinkedIn says a post promoted by a non-employer company shows "Promoted - Partnership with [company]" and that the author should add any further disclosure. An employee author can write "Employee: I work at [Company]." LinkedIn's own example is a hashtag such as #[Company]Employee in a visible place. ASCI found 121 LinkedIn disclosure violations in FY2024-25, so check the first line of every draft. Our post on LinkedIn creator content formats shows the formats.
Pair the line with the platform tool
Instagram's paid partnership label, YouTube's paid promotion setting and LinkedIn's brand partnership toggle all count as platform tools. ASCI permits platform tools as labels, but we pair them with a visible word because placement varies and viewers scroll past small labels. That pairing is our practice, not an ASCI rule.
| Platform | Tool and what it shows | Add this line |
|---|---|---|
| Paid partnership with [Partner]. If boosted, an Ad label appears. Affiliate-link content should carry the label but needs no tagged partner | Ad or Free gift or Affiliate, first line of caption | |
| YouTube | Paid promotion setting adds a label at the beginning of the video | Spoken and on-screen lines above |
| Brand partnership toggle; thought leader ads show Promoted by or Promoted - Partnership with | First-line Ad, or Employee |
Category lines
Some content needs more than the ad label. These are the lines the rules call for.
| Category | Line | What ASCI requires |
|---|---|---|
| Stocks and investments | "SEBI-registered [Research Analyst or Investment Adviser]: [Name], Registration No. [number]" | Registration number stated with name and qualifications; on screen upfront or as the opening remark, at the top of text posts, at the start of audio |
| Other financial advice | "[Name], [IRDAI licence no. / CA / CS membership]" | Suitable credentials stated upfront |
| Health or nutrition advice | "[Name], [qualification, such as MBBS or registered dietician], [certificate or registration no.]" | Relevant qualification stated prominently; proof if ASCI asks |
| Crypto products | "Crypto products and NFTs are unregulated and can be highly risky. There may be no regulatory recourse for any loss from such transactions." | ASCI's exact wording; in video at the end against a plain background with a voiceover, on screen at least 5 seconds; in social posts, in all pictures or videos; in the dominant language |
| Crypto, limited characters | "Crypto products and NFT's are unregulated and risky" with a link to the full text | ASCI's shortened form |
| AI voice or face | "Audio created using AI" / "Video enhanced using AI" | Suggested labels in ASCI's 2026 guideline; effective three months after publication |
| Sponsored AI recommendation | "Sponsored by [Brand]" | ASCI's wording for paid AI product suggestions |
| Virtual influencer | "I am a virtual influencer, not a real person. This is an ad for [Brand]." | Must say upfront and prominently that viewers are not dealing with a real human |
| Claims of rank or jobs (education) | "Past record is no guarantee of future prospects." | Required alongside substantiated rank, job or admission claims; font not smaller than the claim |
For regulated brands, the lines are only half the job. Our posts on health influencer rules, finfluencer rules under SEBI and education advertising rules explain the claims behind them, and the regulated industries map shows where each sits.
Lines to keep out of a brief
"Thanks @brand", "#sp" and "In association with" are not on ASCI's list, and a tagged handle is not a label. "#collab" abbreviates a listed word, so write Collaboration in full and never use it alone on a paid post. A "not an ad" line such as "Not sponsored, just love" needs the paperwork in ASCI's Addendum 1: a declaration signed by a senior member of the advertiser, or the influencer's proof of purchase where the advertiser cannot be traced. CCPA rule 14 separately requires full disclosure of a connection the audience would not reasonably expect.
A brief block you can paste
Disclosure. Your first caption line, and the on-screen text, must read exactly: "[chosen line]". Keep the platform's paid partnership tool on. For video, keep the label on screen for [3 seconds / one third of the video / the whole brand section]. In live or audio formats, say the line at the start and end, and around every break. Send the draft to [name] before posting. Do not edit the line after approval.
Run the same check on every draft, then screenshot the live post. If a line is wrong after going live, our content takedown process sets out the edit-first routine, and our ASCI complaint process post shows what follows if it is not fixed.
To have the lines written into your briefs, in the languages your creators work in, ask for a creator plan. Our Instagram influencer marketing service shows how we run creator campaigns on the platform.

Frequently asked questions
What should a disclosure line say?
It should open with a label word from ASCI's list, say who the brand is and, where relevant, say how the creator benefits: paid, gifted, or earning per sale. Keep it short and plain. ASCI wants it upfront and prominent, in English or the language of the ad. Our ASCI guide covers placement and timing.
Is a hashtag enough, or do we need a spoken line too?
It depends on the format. In video, ASCI sets minimum on-screen times. In live streams and audio it asks for the label to be announced, at the start and end and around breaks for audio. A hashtag buried in a block of tags is likely to be missed. See disclosure hashtags in India for which tags work.
Can the line be in Hindi or another language?
Yes. ASCI says the disclosure should be in English or in the language of the advertisement, in a way an average consumer easily understands. The Hindi lines here are our own drafting, not ASCI wording, so have counsel and a native reader confirm them, and do the same for any other language.
Which line should a gifted product carry?
Free gift, because ASCI counts free or discounted products as a material connection even when they were sent unsolicited and the creator was free not to post. If the creator is also paid, use Ad or Sponsored first. Our service page on gifting and seeding covers running these deals cleanly.
How do we disclose an AI-generated voice or face?
ASCI's 2026 guideline on synthetic content says brands may use labels such as audio or video created using AI, or enhanced using AI, and for a sponsored AI recommendation, Sponsored by the brand. The guideline takes effect three months after publication, which we calculate as about mid-December 2026. See AI-generated content rules.
Does an affiliate link need a special line?
Yes. Affiliate is one of ASCI's permitted labels, and Instagram says content with an affiliate link should carry the paid partnership label, though no business partner needs tagging. Add a plain sentence saying the creator earns when viewers buy, so viewers are not left to infer it.
