In short
- The North East is eight states and many languages, not one audience. Guwahati is the base from which we plan, but each state needs its own creators.
- Assamese-first creators carry trust in Assam; English and Hindi connect Meghalaya, Nagaland and Arunachal; Mizo, Meitei and others need their own voices.
- Bihu, Durga Puja and the winter festivals drive local campaigns. Ambubachi is a pilgrimage, not a promotional occasion.
- Planning sits in New Delhi, creators live across the region, and we confirm shipping reach before booking. There is no Guwahati office.
Influencer Gully plans campaigns from New Delhi for Guwahati brands, and for brands that want the North East, with creators in Assam and the wider region. We brief them remotely, check language before anyone is booked and travel for shoots, launches and creator trips. There is no Guwahati desk.
An influencer marketing agency in Guwahati is usually asked for one of two things: a campaign for the city itself, or a way into the whole North East using Guwahati as the base. The second brief is bigger and more often misunderstood, because the region is not one audience. Eight states, dozens of languages and several religions share the same map and very little else.
The North East is not one audience
| State | Capital | Main languages | Note for casting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assam | Dispur (within Guwahati) | Assamese, Bodo, Bengali in the Barak Valley | Assamese-first content for trust; Hindi for reach |
| Meghalaya | Shillong | Khasi, Garo, English | English works widely; Khasi and Garo for local brands |
| Nagaland | Kohima | English, Nagamese and many tribal languages | Nagamese links the state; creators by tribe and region |
| Mizoram | Aizawl | Mizo, English | Mizo-language creators for trust |
| Manipur | Imphal | Meitei, English | Meitei-first content; check current conditions |
| Arunachal Pradesh | Itanagar | Many tribal languages, with Hindi as the link | Hindi and English for reach |
| Tripura | Agartala | Bengali, Kokborok | Bengali creators cover most of the state |
| Sikkim | Gangtok | Nepali, Sikkimese, Lepcha, English | Nepali-language creators |
Guwahati sits at the centre of this, with the region's main airport, its largest markets and the head offices of many regional distributors. That is why brands plan the North East from here. But a creator in Guwahati is not a substitute for one in Aizawl, and viewers in each state notice when content treats their home as a backdrop rather than an audience.
Check current travel and safety conditions in each state before planning on-ground shoots. They change, and our plan accounts for them.
Why Guwahati is the base
The city is the logistics and media hub for the region: airport connections to Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru and others, a wide distribution network, hospitals that draw patients from several states and a large student population around Gauhati University, Cotton University and IIT Guwahati. Many creators who build audiences elsewhere in the North East end up working from Guwahati, which makes it the best city for a first creator shortlist.
Creators here are often bilingual in Assamese and Hindi or English, and some work across three languages. That helps a brand that needs reach in more than one state without losing local flavour. But a brief for Mizoram or Manipur still needs creators from there, and we say so in the plan.
An audience, not a backdrop
National brands tend to meet the North East through tourism, and tourism content treats the region as scenery: green hills, waterfalls, a few mountain festivals. Viewers in the region see this and are tired of it. A brand that wants their business casts people from the region as the speakers, not the scenery.
In practice that means four things in a brief. Cast creators who live in the state the campaign is aimed at. Let them choose the setting, since a Guwahati student's day is a city day, not a hill-station postcard. Use the creator's own language for at least part of the script, and have a speaker of that language review it. And show the product in everyday use, in the kitchen, the college bus or the Bihu rehearsal, rather than against a landscape.
Brands that do this have a better chance of standing out in a feed where most national campaigns look alike. It also reduces brand-safety risk, because a script written by someone from outside the region is the likeliest to contain a mistake about food, dress or festivals that the audience will point out in the comments. Brand safety carries 10 of the 100 points in our Gully Score, and a language and cultural check is part of how we score it here.
The Guwahati creator scene
Food is the biggest vein. Assamese thali with khar, tenga (the sour fish curry), pitika and duck curry, pitha and laru at Bihu, and momos at every corner give creators daily content, from Paltan Bazaar's old restaurants to GS Road's newer places.
Music and dance are central. Bihu dance, Assamese pop and folk, and covers draw large followings, and festival periods spike views.
Fashion runs on mekhela chador, gamosa and the silks of Assam, including muga, eri and pat. Creators who show how a mekhela is draped or how muga silk is woven bring authenticity that a catalogue cannot.
Travel covers Kamakhya, Umananda island on the Brahmaputra, Deepor Beel, Sualkuchi's weaving lanes, Kaziranga and Shillong, which is roughly a hundred kilometres away.
Football, fitness and youth culture thrive in a region that loves the game and has many young athletes. These are strong creator niches, especially around local leagues and college culture.
Industries and brand clusters
- Tea. Assam tea and Guwahati's auction centre make tea a natural story, with D2C tea brands using creators for gifting and brewing content.
- Oil and refining. The refinery at Noonmati and others in Assam shape the economy, and recruitment and B2B content work through LinkedIn and trade creators.
- Silk and handloom. Muga silk, gamosa and Sualkuchi weaving belong with fashion and apparel creators.
- Healthcare. The city draws patients from across the region, and hospital campaigns use verified doctors with credentials shown on screen.
- Education. Universities and coaching centres reach students through edtech and education creators.
- FMCG and retail. Brands that sell across the region use Guwahati as a distribution base. See FMCG, food and beverage.
- Tourism. Hotels, lodges and tour operators belong with travel and hospitality creators.
The Assam and North East calendar
| Window | Moment | What brands plan |
|---|---|---|
| Mid-January | Magh or Bhogali Bihu, the harvest feast, with Jonbeel Mela near Jagiroad | Food, gifting, ethnic wear, travel |
| Mid-April | Bohag or Rongali Bihu, the Assamese New Year | Apparel, jewellery, music, gifting, home |
| June | Ambubachi Mela at the Kamakhya temple (the 2026 edition began on 22 June) | Hotels, transport, food capacity; not promotion |
| October | Durga Puja, and Kati or Kongali Bihu | Fashion, food, nightlife, electronics |
| October to November | Diwali | Gifting, retail, home |
| November to December | Sangai Festival (Manipur), Hornbill Festival (Nagaland) | Travel, regional creators, local brands |
| December | Christmas and winter, especially in Shillong, Nagaland and Mizoram | Cafés, stays, gifting, music |
The three Bihus fall on fixed solar dates in mid-January, mid-April and mid-October, while Durga Puja and Diwali float with the lunar calendar, so we check those each year. Ambubachi is a religious event, and we advise brands to treat it as a planning point for services, not as a creative backdrop.
Where Guwahati shoots and meets
Paltan Bazaar and Fancy Bazar give market, textile and street-food backdrops, best shot before the shops open fully. GS Road, Ganeshguri and Zoo Road hold cafés, restaurants and newer retail. Pan Bazar and Uzan Bazar open onto the Brahmaputra ghats for river-view shoots. Umananda island is a short boat ride. Deepor Beel and Assam State Zoo suit nature and family content with permission. Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra is used for cultural events. Sualkuchi, across the river, is the weaving village for silk shoots, and a morning visit needs a prior word with weavers.
For creator trips, Kaziranga's safari windows, Meghalaya's living-root bridges and Shillong's cafés are common stops, and we plan them with a local driver and a tight schedule. Meetups work well in a Guwahati hotel hall or riverside café. See creator events and meetups.
How we run it from New Delhi
- Brief. We ask which states, which languages and which festivals, so the plan has one stream per audience.
- Plan in 48 hours. Each creator is scored on the Gully Score, with audience split by state and city.
- Language review. Scripts and captions in Assamese, Khasi, Mizo, Meitei or Nagamese are read by speakers of the language.
- Shipping and serviceability. We confirm that couriers reach each creator's pin code and add buffer days before content deadlines.
- Contracts and disclosure. The label may be in English or the language of the post, and it sits upfront. The ASCI guide shows where the label must sit.
- Report. Views, saves, enquiries and bookings by creator and state, so each stream can be judged on its own.
What a Guwahati campaign costs
Creator fees follow the national tier ranges: nano Reels ₹2,000 to ₹10,000, micro Reels ₹8,000 to ₹80,000. What changes cost here is the shape of the campaign.
| Campaign shape | Illustrative mix | Creator fees (planning) |
|---|---|---|
| Guwahati city launch | 15 nano at ₹4,000, 6 micro at ₹20,000 | ₹1,80,000 |
| Four-state North East push, each state a separate stream | 4 states x (5 nano at ₹4,000 plus 2 micro at ₹20,000) | ₹2,40,000 |
| Guwahati plus a national travel push | 10 nano, 8 micro and 2 mid-tier travel creators | ₹4,90,000 |
Add flights or drives between states, interpreters or language reviewers, shipping and buffer days. Rights to run posts as ads add roughly 30 to 50 percent. Use the influencer cost calculator for your own mix and the influencer rates guide for the sources.
Guwahati and eastern India
North East brands often sell into the rest of eastern India next. See our pages on an influencer marketing agency in Kolkata, in Bhubaneswar and in Delhi, and the city hub for every market. The guide to influencer marketing in India explains the channel from the start. If you are searching for an influencer agency Guwahati can plan the whole region from, send us a brief and ask for one stream per state: the plan, shortlist and cost estimate arrive within 48 hours.
Frequently asked questions
Do you work from Guwahati, or only from Delhi?
No. Our team sits in New Delhi. Guwahati campaigns use creators in Assam and the wider North East, with language review before booking and travel for shoots and creator trips. Because there is no local desk, we confirm courier reach and travel times during planning, not after content is due.
How does an influencer marketing company in Guwahati price a multi-state campaign?
Creator fees follow the national tier bands. On top sit the agency fee, which published benchmarks put at about 15 to 25 percent of creator spend, and North East extras: travel between states, language review and slower shipping. The influencer rates guide lists the creator ranges.
Can one campaign cover the whole North East?
It can, but not with one creator or one language. Plan it as separate streams for Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and so on, each with local creators, and report them together. English and Hindi connect some states, but local languages build trust. See regional language influencer marketing.
Which creators suit a travel or hotel brand in Assam and Meghalaya?
Travel and photography creators whose audiences are in the cities your guests fly in from, plus local creators for authenticity. Creator trips to Kaziranga, Shillong and Guwahati's riverfront work well for travel and hospitality brands. We check audience location before shortlisting.
How should a brand handle Ambubachi or other religious festivals?
With restraint. Ambubachi at the Kamakhya temple is a pilgrimage, and promotional posts around it read as intrusive. Hotels, transport and food services can plan capacity and offer useful guides. We advise brands to avoid sacred imagery as a backdrop for product promotion.
Do products reach the North East on time for a campaign?
Shipping to some parts of the North East takes longer and some couriers do not serve every pin code. We confirm serviceability for each creator's address and add buffer days before content deadlines. Local pickup from a Guwahati partner is sometimes the faster route. Seeding and gifting timelines cover this.
Does a disclosure label in Assamese count?
ASCI requires a clear label such as Ad, Sponsored or Collaboration, in English or the language of the ad. For Assamese posts, an Assamese or English label is fine if it is upfront and easy to understand. Our ASCI guide lists the placement rules.
