In short
- Long reviews and ownership diaries do the heavy lifting, with Reels and Shorts feeding them. Cast reviewers, riders and EV owners rather than general lifestyle creators.
- The sale happens at the dealership, so track test-ride bookings and showroom visits per creator, not only views.
- Show safe riding and driving, label mileage or range as certified, and write loan, insurance and return terms into the creator contract.
- Time launches to the festive peak around Navratri and Diwali, and use financial-year-end and model-year-end pushes.
Automotive influencer marketing in India means putting cars, bikes, scooters and EVs in the hands of reviewers, riders and owners whose audiences are researching a purchase, then measuring the result in test rides, showroom visits and bookings. It is a long-cycle category: a buyer may watch a dozen videos over a month before visiting a dealer, so creators earn their keep in the research stage and the dealership closes the sale.
Our team has worked with auto and two-wheeler brands including Bajaj Auto and KTM. This page covers how vehicles get bought, how EV education changes the brief, what loaning a vehicle involves, budgets and a sample launch. For the wider channel, read our complete guide to influencer marketing in India.
How a vehicle gets bought, and what creators do at each step
| Step | What the buyer does | Creator's job | What you measure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Awareness | Sees a teaser or launch | Reels, Shorts and launch-day reviews | Views, reach |
| Research (weeks) | Watches reviews, comparisons and owner diaries | Long reviews, head-to-heads, ownership updates | Watch time, saves, comments on price and variants |
| Test-ride booking | Looks for the nearest dealer and a slot | Booking link or QR in the video and pinned comment | Test-ride bookings per creator |
| Dealership visit | Rides, negotiates, asks about finance | "Go and ride it" content, dealer offers for viewers | Showroom visits matched by code |
| Booking and finance | Chooses variant, EMI and delivery date | Variant and EMI explainers | Bookings by creator code |
| Ownership | Uses it, services it, tells others | Six-month and one-year reviews, service diaries | Referrals, repeat enquiries |
Most of the influence sits in row two. A buyer who has seen three credible reviewers say the same thing about a vehicle's mileage, ride and service arrives at the showroom half-convinced. The leak is usually row four: a lead from a Sunday review that nobody calls until Wednesday. Agree a callback window of a couple of hours with the dealer network before the first video goes live.
Creator types and formats
| Creator | Format | Best for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Car or bike reviewer | Launch review, head-to-head comparison, long-term review | Every launch | Credibility: allow honest pros and cons |
| Rider or motovlogger | Test ride, touring, accessory and gear videos | Motorcycles, scooters, adventure bikes | Safe riding; no stunts in traffic |
| EV owner | Running-cost diary, home-charging setup, highway trip | EV launches | Certified versus real-world range |
| Family or daily-use creator | Space, comfort, school-run and boot test | Hatchbacks, SUVs, MPVs | Audience of actual buyers |
| Regional-language auto channel | Review in the buyer's language | Tier 2 and 3 two-wheeler and commuter markets | Dealer coverage in that region |
| Mechanic or DIY creator | Service cost, maintenance, accessories | Service and aftermarket | Honest cost claims |
A Short or Reel gets attention; a ten-minute review wins the decision. Plan the budget around the long videos and use short-form to point at them. For pan-India launches, regional language creators matter more in vehicles than in most categories, because a buyer in Coimbatore wants a Tamil reviewer who knows the local dealer and road conditions. The EY-led 2024 study found autos among the categories expected to raise influencer spend most, so competition for good reviewers is rising.
EV education is a content problem
An EV buyer carries questions a petrol buyer does not: will it get me there, where do I charge, what if the battery fails, what will it be worth in four years. Dealers cannot answer these in a showroom visit. Creators can, with proof.
| Buyer question | Creator format that answers it | What the brief must settle |
|---|---|---|
| Real range | Highway or city trip with the meter on camera | Certified figure versus the creator's own result |
| Charging at home | Apartment-society and home-charger setup video | Who pays for the charger in the shoot |
| Running cost | One-month electricity bill versus fuel spend | Creator's own numbers; no brand-invented savings |
| Battery and warranty | Interview with a service head or an owner after a year | Warranty terms checked by the brand |
| Resale and service | Ownership diary at six and twelve months | A loan long enough to make it possible |
| Safety | Ride-quality and braking demonstrations | Controlled location, protective gear |
EV claims are where scripts go wrong. Range and savings depend on speed, load and conditions, so a creator should say what they got, not promise it. Incentive and subsidy statements change; have your team confirm them on the week of shooting.
Dealer readiness: the part most plans skip
A creator can fill a test-ride calendar in a weekend. The dealer has to honour it. Before launch, settle six things in every campaign city.
- Slots. Demo vehicles and test-ride slots confirmed for the first two weekends. A viewer who finds no slot rarely tries again.
- Callback. One named person per dealership answers creator leads within a couple of hours, using a script that knows the creator's code and the offer.
- Codes. Every creator has a code or booking link, and the salesperson records it at the visit, not at month end.
- Variants. Demo vehicles match what reviewers praised. A viewer who watched the top variant will ask to ride it.
- Price and offers. Anything shown in a video is valid at the dealer that day. A different price in the showroom loses the viewer.
- Feedback loop. A weekly list of leads, visits and bookings by creator goes back to the campaign team, so the next wave leans on what worked.
Loaned vehicles, safety and paperwork
A vehicle on loan is a benefit, a liability and a disclosure event.
- Loan agreement. Names the vehicle, the period, the licence check, insurance, damage and traffic-fine responsibility, a distance cap and a return date.
- Tax. Under section 194R guidance, a product sent for a shoot and returned afterwards attracts no TDS; one the creator keeps is a benefit valued at fair market value. For long ownership-diary loans, ask your CA how to treat it; our guide to TDS and GST on influencer payments explains the basics.
- Disclosure. A loaned vehicle is a material connection under the ASCI influencer guidelines, so every post carries a clear label. See our ASCI guidelines explainer.
- Safety. ASCI's automotive advertising rules bar depicting unsafe or reckless driving and call for a readable caution where stunts need professional skill. Riders wear protective gear, stunts happen only with professionals in controlled spaces, and no one films dangerous driving in traffic for effect.
- Opinions versus facts. We check specifications, price and claims against your documents, not the reviewer's opinion. A reviewer paid for praise loses the audience and your credibility with it.
- Claims. Price is ex-showroom or on-road, stated as such. Mileage and range are labelled as certified or the creator's own.

The automotive calendar
Patterns below are typical; dealers' experience varies by market.
| Window | Moment | Creator play |
|---|---|---|
| January to February | New-year pricing, Pongal and Makar Sankranti in the south and west | Value variants, regional-language reviews |
| March | Financial-year-end stock clearance | Offer videos, EMI explainers |
| April to May | Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, Akshaya Tritiya, summer | Auspicious-day deliveries, summer-ready scooters |
| August to September | Onam in Kerala, pre-festive build-up | Teasers and long reviews, so everything is live before Navratri |
| Late September to November | Many buyers pause in the Shraddh fortnight, then buy around Navratri, Dussehra, Dhanteras and Diwali | Peak launches, test-ride drives, delivery content |
| December | Model-year-end clearance | Discount explainers |
Book reviewers weeks ahead of Navratri; the best slots go early.
Budgets by tier
For autos, price the long YouTube review first and the short-form content around it. Figures come from the benchmarks behind our influencer cost guide.
| Tier | YouTube dedicated review | Instagram Reel | Auto role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nano (1K to 10K) | ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 | ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 | Local riders, test-ride day attendees |
| Micro (10K to 100K) | ₹20,000 to ₹1.2 lakh | ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 | City riders, EV owners, regional reviewers |
| Mid-tier (100K to 500K) | ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh | ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh | Established reviewers, the anchor of a launch |
| Macro (500K to 1M) | ₹3 lakh to ₹15 lakh | ₹2 lakh to ₹8 lakh | Major channels, hero launches |
| Mega (1M+) | ₹8 lakh to ₹50 lakh | ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh | Celebrity-grade moments |
We found no published niche multiplier for automotive. Tech creators run 1.3x to 1.5x a baseline and auto reviewers often price close to them, so treat that as a planning ceiling until quotes arrive. One agency's published figure puts a dedicated review on a 500,000-subscriber tech or finance channel at ₹5 lakh to ₹12 lakh. Add usage rights for your ads (about +30 to 50 percent) and exclusivity against rival launches in the same segment (about +30 to 50 percent for 30 days). On top sit the vehicle costs: insurance, charging or fuel, accessories and test-ride day logistics. Compare options in the influencer cost calculator.
Metrics
| Metric | Tracked by | Reading |

| Showroom visits by code | Dealer system | Whether bookings turn into footfall |
| Cost per test ride and per booking | Spend divided by matched events | The comparable number against other channels |
| Dealer callback time | CRM | Explains lost leads |
How we run it for auto brands
We start from the dealership and work backwards.
- Dealer readiness. Cities with dealers, demo vehicles, test-ride slots and a callback window, settled before creators are briefed.
- Plan, within 48 hours. Creators by city and language, loan terms for each vehicle and the booking links.
- Vetting. A Gully Score for each creator. For autos we check audience age (buyers must be adults who can hold a licence), city split and past ride videos for safety.
- Contracts. Loan agreement, label, claim wording, safety conditions and usage rights.
- Approvals. Scripts and drafts are checked for specifications, price and safety before you approve.
- Live and reported. The best reviews run as creator ads around dealer locations, with weekly reports on test rides and bookings by creator.
For the structure of a launch, see product launch campaigns and creator events and meetups. The detail of our process is on how we work.
Common mistakes in automotive campaigns
- Buying praise. An audience that senses a scripted review stops trusting every review.
- Launch day only. The research stage lasts weeks; plan a second wave and ownership diaries.
- No dealer readiness. Leads without a callback window are wasted spend.
- Lifestyle creators for a motorcycle. Riders judge a bike creator in seconds.
- One language everywhere. Regional reviewers carry tier 2 and 3 markets.
- Safety lapses. No helmet, speeding or stunts in traffic can produce a complaint and a brand-safety crisis.
- Treating certified range as real-world. Say which is which.

Frequently asked questions
How does influencer marketing work for car and bike brands?
Creators review, ride and live with your vehicle, and viewers use those videos to research and shortlist. The sale closes at a dealership, so the useful measure is test-ride bookings and showroom visits attributed to each creator. Pair long YouTube reviews with Reels and Shorts, and prepare dealers to call every lead within hours. See our YouTube influencer marketing service.
How much does automotive influencer marketing cost in India?
A dedicated YouTube review costs about ₹20,000 to ₹1.2 lakh from a micro channel, ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh from a mid-tier channel and ₹3 lakh to ₹15 lakh from a macro channel. We found no published auto multiplier; tech channels carry a 1.3x to 1.5x premium and auto reviewers often quote near them. Model it in the cost calculator.
How do you measure dealer footfall from influencer campaigns?
Give each creator a test-ride booking link with its own tag, or a dealer code the salesperson enters or the customer quotes at the showroom. Match bookings to visits and sales in the dealer's system, and add a source field to the booking form. Views and likes show interest; the code shows who walked in.
Do automotive creators need to follow ASCI safety rules?
Yes. ASCI's rules on automotive advertising bar depicting unsafe or reckless driving and call for a readable caution where stunts need professional skill. A creator who rides without protective gear or shows traffic violations for effect puts your brand at risk. We brief safe riding and driving, and use controlled locations for anything dynamic.
Can an influencer quote mileage or EV range?
Only as a certified or claimed figure, labelled as such, with real-world numbers shown separately as the creator's own experience. The brand must be able to substantiate any claim. Never let a script present a certified figure as what every owner will get, and check subsidy or incentive statements are current before approving them.
What happens to the bike or car given to a creator for a review?
It is normally loaned, insured and returned. Under section 194R guidance, a product sent for a shoot and returned afterwards attracts no TDS; one the creator keeps is a taxable benefit at fair market value. Long loans should be reviewed by your CA. Read our TDS and GST guide. This is not tax advice.
When should a vehicle brand run a creator campaign?
Time launch and test-ride campaigns to the weeks before Navratri and Diwali, the traditional buying peak, and use March for financial-year-end and December for model-year-end pushes. Brief six to eight weeks ahead, since vehicle logistics, loans and approvals take time.
