In short
- Make the campaign in Malayalam first, in the Malayalam your buyer speaks: Kochi, Malabar and the south sound different, and viewers hear it.
- Many Malayalam creators have followers in the Gulf. That helps gold, gifting and travel brands, so we check the audience split by country.
- Onam, Vishu, Christmas and the Gulf summer holidays are the main windows. Book 10 weeks ahead for Onam.
- A Malayalam reader reviews scripts, and strategy runs from New Delhi. There is no Kochi office.
Influencer Gully runs campaigns in Kochi and across Kerala with Malayalam-speaking creators, briefed from New Delhi, with a Malayalam reader reviewing every script and caption before drafts reach you. We travel for shoots and launches. We have no Kochi office.
The first decision for any brand hiring an influencer marketing agency in Kochi is language. A Reel made in Hindi and subtitled in Malayalam is not a Malayalam Reel. Kerala audiences hear the difference in the first three seconds, and they scroll on. Kochi is also Kerala's business and media crossroads, which means one city plan can reach buyers from Thiruvananthapuram to Kannur if the casting is right.
Make it in Malayalam first
Malayalam is not one voice. The way people speak in Ernakulam and Kochi, in Thrissur, in the Malabar districts around Kozhikode and Kannur, and in Thiruvananthapuram and the south differs in words, rhythm and humour. Creators from one region can sound like visitors in another.
| Where your buyers are | Creator voice to cast | Good fit |
|---|---|---|
| Kochi, Ernakulam, Aluva, Thripunithura | Central Kerala Malayalam | Retail, QSR, apps, property, electronics |
| Thrissur and central Kerala | Thrissur voices, festival and temple culture | Gold, sweets, textiles, family goods |
| Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kannur | Malabar Malayalam, food and football culture | Food, fashion, remittance and travel |
| Thiruvananthapuram and the south | Southern Malayalam, government and education audiences | Education, banking, healthcare |
| Gulf Malayalis | Malayalam creators with Gulf followers | Gold, gifting, remittance, property, travel |
Manglish, the Malayalam-English mix, is normal in everyday video, and English captions help reach beyond Kerala. Premium, tech and finance brands aimed at Infopark professionals can use English-first creators. Everyone else should start with Malayalam. A 2026 creator survey reported by Campaign India says more than 62 percent of surveyed creators report receiving more regional-language campaign briefs, which is a vendor's estimate, but it matches how brands are shifting.
Kochi's creator scene
Kerala is a film-loving state, and Kochi is a major base for Malayalam film production. Creators who work around film, music and comedy bring audiences that are loyal and quick to share.
Food creators film seafood, appam and stew, biryani, banana-leaf meals and bakery snacks, and the best of them show price and place. Travel creators work the backwaters, Munnar's hills and Fort Kochi's heritage lanes. Fashion creators style kasavu sarees and mundus around Onam and Vishu. Gold and wedding creators work with Kerala's long jewellery season. Wellness and Ayurveda creators are busiest in the monsoon. Tech and startup creators around Kakkanad's Infopark talk to young professionals.
Kochi is cosmopolitan. Hindu, Christian and Muslim communities each bring festivals, and the city's Jewish and Portuguese-Dutch heritage in Mattancherry and Fort Kochi gives creators visual material that other cities do not have. A brand that respects each festival gets reach across them.
The Kerala calendar
| Window | Moment | What brands plan |
|---|---|---|
| August to September | Onam, kicked off by the Athachamayam procession at Thripunithura; the Nehru Trophy Boat Race at Alappuzha in late summer | Kasavu wear, gold, electronics, kitchen goods, sweets, travel |
| April | Vishu | Gifting, fashion, food, family content |
| June to August | Monsoon and Ayurveda season | Wellness, stays, travel |
| July to August | Gulf summer break and Onam travel home | Gold, gifting, airlines, property, remittance |
| December | Christmas and the New Year's Eve Cochin Carnival in Fort Kochi | Bakery, fashion, stays, nightlife |
| December to March (every two years) | Kochi-Muziris Biennale; the sixth edition ran from 12 December 2025 to 31 March 2026 | Cafés, stays, art, travel content |
| Eid and Easter (dates move) | Family gatherings and gifting | Food, fashion, sweets |
Festival dates move with the lunar and solar calendars, so we confirm them first. Onam is the largest planning window of the year for most Kerala brands.
The Gulf is a second market inside the same creator
Kerala's Gulf connection is a campaign asset few other states have. Many Malayalam creators, including some based in Kochi, have a large share of followers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman, and families there plan gifts, gold purchases and property back home. For a brand with something to deliver to Kerala, such as gold, sweets, appliances, flowers or insurance, a creator with Gulf followers can be the cheapest route to that buyer.
Three practical points apply.
- Check the split, not the claim. A creator who says "half my audience is in the Gulf" should show it in insights. We read audience by country before shortlisting and score it under audience authenticity in the Gully Score.
- Time the post for the viewer. Posting at 8 p.m. in Kochi is 6.30 p.m. in the UAE and 5.30 p.m. in Saudi Arabia, when many families are home from work. A post that goes live at 10 p.m. in India reaches the UAE at 8.30 p.m., a usual scrolling hour, so one schedule can serve both audiences.
- Know the rules where the viewer is. Gulf countries have their own advertising and influencer rules. A Gulf-facing campaign needs local legal advice, and we flag this at the planning stage rather than after content is made.
Industries and brand clusters in Kochi
- Port, shipping and trade. The port, shipyard and spice and seafood trade give B2B and recruitment creators something to talk about. See LinkedIn and B2B creators.
- IT. Infopark and SmartCity at Kakkanad employ young professionals who live on Instagram and YouTube.
- Healthcare and medical tourism. Hospital and wellness campaigns need doctor and dietitian creators with credentials on screen at the start, in line with ASCI rules. See health, wellness and fitness.
- Tourism. Backwaters, homestays and heritage stays belong with travel and hospitality creators.
- Retail and fashion. Malls such as Lulu at Edappally and boutiques in Panampilly Nagar run launch and festival campaigns. See fashion and apparel.
Where Kochi shoots and meets
- Fort Kochi and Mattancherry. Chinese fishing nets, Princess Street, Jew Town and the cafés and galleries around them. Good for fashion, food and travel. Crowds peak at sunset.
- Marine Drive and Bolgatty. The Ernakulam waterfront for lifestyle, fitness and brand portraits.
- Edappally and Panampilly Nagar. Mall and café shoots, with management permission.
- Kakkanad. Infopark cafés and co-working spaces for tech and startup content.
- Cherai and Vypin. Beach days and homestay shoots. A ride on the Kochi Water Metro to Vypin or Fort Kochi is itself a content set-up.
- Alappuzha and Munnar. Houseboat and hill trips, planned as one-day or overnight extensions.
The Biennale and the New Year's Eve carnival change access in Fort Kochi, with road closures and crowds, so we plan shoots around them. Creator meetups work well in Ernakulam hotels with water views, via our creator events and meetups service.
How we run it for Kerala
- Brief. We ask which Kerala your buyer lives in and what language they watch, so we can pick the voice.
- Plan in 48 hours. The plan states each creator's dialect, audience split by district and by country, and Gully Score.
- Malayalam script review. A Malayalam reader checks scripts, captions and subtitles for tone and for words that sound off in the buyer's region.
- Contracts and disclosure. The label may be in English or in Malayalam, and it sits upfront. Placement rules are in our guide to ASCI's influencer guidelines.
- Gulf timing. If the audience includes the Gulf, posts are timed for UAE and Saudi evenings, which are 1.5 and 2.5 hours behind India.
- Report. A weekly tracker shows views, saves, clicks, code use and cost per result by creator and by country.
Brands that sell through the year, not only at Onam, do better with an always-on structure: a few Kerala creators on three- or six-month terms, with Vishu, monsoon, Onam and Christmas as content peaks. See creator ambassador programmes and our guide to measuring influencer marketing ROI for how to judge the whole year, not one post.
What a Kochi campaign costs
Kerala creators price like creators everywhere else: by tier, niche, engagement and usage rights. Kerala has a strong YouTube culture, so this table shows YouTube alongside Reels.
| Tier | Instagram Reel | YouTube integration (60 to 90 s) | YouTube dedicated video |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nano | ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 | ₹3,000 to ₹12,000 | ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 |
| Micro | ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 | ₹15,000 to ₹60,000 | ₹20,000 to ₹1,20,000 |
| Mid-tier | ₹50,000 to ₹3,50,000 | ₹60,000 to ₹2,50,000 | ₹1,00,000 to ₹5,00,000 |
Extra lines for Kerala campaigns include Malayalam translation and subtitling, film-style production for festival films and, for Gulf-audience work, the same fee ranges but a different audience profile. Paid-ad rights typically add 30 to 50 percent to a fee. Use the influencer cost calculator and read the full influencer rates guide.
Kochi, Coimbatore and the south
Kerala brands often move next to their Tamil-speaking neighbours. Our pages on an influencer marketing agency in Coimbatore, in Chennai and in Bangalore show how we plan that step, and the city hub lists every market. Our guide to influencer marketing in India covers the basics. Brands comparing an influencer agency Kochi has to offer should ask for the language plan, not only the price list. Send us a brief and the creator plan, shortlist and costs return within 48 hours.

Frequently asked questions
Where are you based, and who checks the Malayalam in scripts?
No. We are based in New Delhi. Kochi campaigns run with Kerala-based creators, a named strategist who briefs them remotely, a Malayalam reader who checks scripts and captions, and travel for shoots and launches. We do not claim a local office, and our process works without one.
What should I budget with an influencer marketing company in Kochi?
Creator fees pass through at cost, with the agency fee on top, which published benchmarks put at about 15 to 25 percent of creator spend. Kerala work can add Malayalam translation, subtitling and film-style production. Fee ranges by tier are in the influencer rates guide, and the calculator gives a first estimate.
Should a Kochi campaign be in Malayalam or English?
Malayalam for most consumer brands, with English subtitles if you want reach beyond Kerala. English-first works for premium, tech and finance brands aimed at Infopark professionals. We often run both and compare cost per view. See regional language influencer marketing.
Can influencers reach Malayalis in the Gulf?
Yes, through Malayalam creators who have large Gulf followings or through Gulf-based creators. We check the audience split by country from each creator's insights. The Gulf runs 1.5 to 2.5 hours behind India, so posting times are set for the audience you want. This suits gold, remittance, gifting and travel brands.
What does a disclosure label look like in Malayalam?
ASCI requires a clear label such as Ad, Sponsored, Collaboration or Partnership, in English or in the language of the ad. A creator may use a Malayalam word, but it must be easy to understand and placed upfront, not buried. Our ASCI guide lists the placement rules.
When should we start planning an Onam campaign?
Ten weeks before Thiruvonam. Onam retail and gifting budgets are spent in the three weeks before it, creators fill up early and Malayalam film and festival content is crowded. The plan takes 48 hours, contracts a week and posting begins two to three weeks after approval.
Can creators shoot at Fort Kochi and Mattancherry?
Public streets and waterfront spots work for most handheld shoots, though crew size, tripods and crowds matter. Heritage buildings, synagogues, churches and private properties need permission. During the Biennale and the New Year carnival, access and crowds change, and we plan around them.
