In short
- Use Reels to reach new people, Stories to drive clicks and codes, carousels to earn saves, and partnership ads to scale the posts that already work.
- A Reel costs about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 from a nano creator and ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 from a micro creator; mid-tier creators start near ₹50,000.
- Every creator is scored out of 100 on the Gully Score before you see a name, with audience authenticity carrying the most weight at 30 points.
- You get a creator plan within 48 hours of the brief call, and a typical micro-influencer campaign goes live in two to three weeks.
An Instagram influencer marketing agency finds creators whose followers match your buyer, briefs each one on the format that suits their audience, handles contracts and disclosure, and reports against a goal you set before launch. Influencer Gully chooses between five Instagram formats on purpose (Reels, Stories, feed posts and carousels, collab posts and partnership ads) instead of defaulting to one Reel per creator. This page explains the job each format does, how to track it, what it costs and how we run it.
Instagram is where most Indian influencer budgets start. DataReportal's Digital 2026: India report puts Instagram's advertising audience in the country at 481 million, which is an estimate of ad reach rather than a count of monthly users. In a Q1 2026 brand survey by a creator platform, 93.1 percent of brands named Instagram their main influencer platform, and Meta says India has the largest community of Instagram creators and produces more Reels each week than any other country.
That volume is also the catch. In the Goat Agency and Kantar study, about 83 percent of brands said they struggle to find the right creators. Finding a creator on Instagram takes minutes; finding one whose followers will buy your product is the work.
The five formats and the job each one does
Treat the formats as a relay, not a menu. Each one hands the viewer to the next, and a campaign that uses only one leaves most of the value unused.
Reels: reach people who do not follow you yet
Reels are the discovery format. Instagram recommends them to people who do not follow the creator, which makes a Reel the cheapest way for a new brand to borrow an audience. They are also the most expensive of the organic formats (see the cost table below), and the first two seconds decide whether anyone stays.
Our Reel briefs fix one claim, one product moment on screen early, and on-screen text so the video still works with the sound off. A Reel keeps collecting views for weeks, so we report at day 7 and again at day 30 instead of judging it on the first weekend.
Stories: the click and the code
Stories mostly reach people who already follow the creator, which makes them the right place to ask for an action: tap the link, use the code, answer the poll. A Story set of three to five frames disappears after 24 hours, so it works as a conversion nudge rather than a lasting asset.
Feed posts and carousels: the page people save
A static post or carousel is slow to make an impression and good at holding detail: an ingredient breakdown, a size chart, a before-and-after, a five-step routine. Viewers save and share these, and they stay on the grid long after Stories expire. They cost less than a Reel at every tier, so we use them as the proof layer for products that need explaining.
Collab posts: one post on two grids
Instagram's Collab feature lets the brand account and the creator co-author a post or Reel. It appears on both profiles, and the likes and comments are counted together. The brand account can also read the post's performance in its own Insights.
Collabs suit brands with an active account that want a creator's audience to start following them, and brands that want the post to live on their own grid. The creator has to accept the invite, so we write it into the brief instead of asking after posting.
Partnership ads: pay to show the best posts to strangers
A partnership ad runs a creator's existing post as a paid ad, with the creator's handle and a "Paid partnership" label. The creator grants permission; the brand controls budget and targeting. We treat it as the last step of every campaign: the posts that earned saves and shares organically are the ones worth paying behind. Mechanics, fee uplift and testing method are on our creator ads and whitelisting page.
Which format for which goal
| Goal | Lead format | Supporting format | What we count | Where it goes wrong |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Launch awareness | Reels from many micro and mid-tier creators | Story set on launch day; collab post from the brand | Views, reach, shares, profile visits | Thirty creators reading one script, so the feed looks like an ad wall |
| People comparing options | Carousels and honest-review Reels | Story question stickers that answer objections | Saves, shares, comments that ask a purchase question | Review with no downside mentioned, which viewers read as paid |
| Sales or installs | Story set with link sticker and a unique code | Reel the day before; partnership ads to retarget viewers | Link clicks, code redemptions, cost per click, ROAS | Code only in the caption, link only in the bio |
| Content for your own ads | Reels shot in a creator's native style | Partnership ads, then paid use of the file | Hook rate, hold rate, CTR against brand-made ads | Usage rights not agreed before the shoot |
| Store or event footfall | Reels filmed at the location | Story set with location tag and code | Visits, in-store code use | No code or offer to prove the visit came from the creator |
| Always-on credibility | Monthly Reels and carousels from the same small group | Stories around product drops | Saves, branded search, repeat engagement | Rotating creators every month so no audience builds familiarity |
Stories that carry a link and a code
Reels and feed posts cannot carry a tappable link in the caption, so the click usually happens in a Story or through the creator's bio. We build every Story set the same way:
- Frame 1, the hook. A question or poll sticker about the problem the product solves, so followers tap and stay.
- Frame 2, the proof. The creator using the product, with the one claim your brief allows.
- Frame 3, the detail. Price, size, ingredient or comparison, whatever stops people from buying.
- Frame 4, the ask. A link sticker to a tracked URL with the creator's handle in the UTM tag, and a unique code such as BRAND-HANDLE10 spoken aloud and written on screen.
Unique codes per creator matter more than the discount. They tell you which creators sell, not just which ones get views. Ask each creator for a screenshot of the Story insights (reach, link taps, forward taps, exits) on the day it is posted, because the numbers are easiest to capture while the Story is live. Where the contract allows it, a Highlight keeps the set visible after 24 hours.
On disclosure, ASCI expects a label superimposed on the visual for content without a caption, which describes Stories. We ask creators to place "Ad" or "Paid partnership" on the first frame, not buried in a sticker on the last one. Our ASCI influencer guidelines explainer covers placement rules for each format. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.
Finding and vetting creators on Instagram
Our process for Instagram creators runs in six steps:
- Start from the buyer, not the niche. "Office workers in Pune who skip breakfast" gives a better search than "food creators".
- Search in three places. Our network of 50,000+ creators; Instagram's own creator marketplace, which Meta has extended with AI discovery and keyword search; and hashtags and Reels search in the words and language your buyer uses.
- Ask for audience insights. Top cities, age bands and gender for the last 30 days, as screenshots from the creator's own account. Compare them with your buyer map.
- Check reach per follower. We look at views on the last 10 to 12 Reels against follower count, then saves, shares and the quality of comments. Generic emoji comments and likes far above views are the warning signs.
- Read the brand history. Past sponsored posts that perform far below the creator's organic ones, and competitor deals in recent weeks, both count against a creator.
- Score it. Audience authenticity (30), engagement quality (25), buyer fit (20), content craft (15) and brand safety (10) add up to the Gully Score. We shortlist creators at 70 or above.

What Instagram campaigns cost
These are indicative asking prices per creator, per post, compiled from published Indian rate cards (2026). Real quotes vary by niche, engagement, language and usage rights.
| Tier | Followers | Reel | Story set | Static or carousel | Typical engagement |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nano | 1K to 10K | ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 | ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 | ₹1,000 to ₹8,000 | 5% to 10% |
| Micro | 10K to 100K | ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 | ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 | ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 | 3% to 6% |
| Mid-tier | 100K to 500K | ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh | ₹20,000 to ₹80,000 | ₹30,000 to ₹2 lakh | 1.5% to 4% |
| Macro | 500K to 1M | ₹2 lakh to ₹8 lakh | ₹50,000 to ₹2.5 lakh | ₹1.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh | 1% to 2.5% |
| Mega | 1M and above | ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh | ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh | ₹4 lakh to ₹15 lakh | 0.5% to 2% |
Follower count sets the tier; engagement, niche and audience location set the price inside it. Published rate cards put a Reel, post and Stories bundle at roughly 1.6 to 2 times the price of a single Reel. On top of the base fee, expect about 35% for usage rights, about 40% for 30 days of category exclusivity and up to 50% for premium niches such as finance and tech. GST at 18 percent is extra. Published benchmarks suggest agency management fees of 15% to 25% of creator spend; ours is shown on its own line (see pricing).

How we run Instagram campaigns
Every Instagram campaign follows our standard six-stage process. The Instagram-specific parts are these:
- Brief and call, day 0. We map format to funnel stage and write down which creators will carry a link and code.
- Creator plan, within 48 hours. Named creators with Gully Scores, audience splits, format per creator and a cost estimate with creator fees and ours on separate lines.
- Contracts. Disclosure label wording, usage rights, partnership-ad permission, exclusivity and two revision rounds are agreed before any content is shot. Audio is agreed up front for any post we plan to amplify, because licensed trending audio can cause problems when a post later runs as an ad.
- Approvals. Creators send a concept, then a draft. We check claims, label, tags and links before it reaches you.
- Live and amplified. Posts go out on a staggered schedule; we watch the first hour, reply to comment questions and move the best performers into partnership ads.
- Reporting. A live tracker from the first post and a closing report that ranks every creator on cost per result.
Mistakes that waste Instagram budgets
- One script for every creator. Audiences notice. Give creators the claim and the proof, and let them write the hook.
- Judging a Reel after 48 hours. Reels can keep collecting views for weeks; set the review dates in advance.
- No partnership-ad permission in the contract. Asking after a post performs well hands the creator all the bargaining power.
- Disclosure at the end of the caption or in a hashtag pile. ASCI wants it upfront and prominent.
- Casting by niche, not by audience city. A Delhi fitness creator with mostly overseas followers will not move a Pune delivery business.
Related campaigns we run
Instagram rarely works alone. Brands usually pair it with YouTube influencer marketing for search-led decisions, a micro-influencer programme for coverage across cities, regional language creators for Bharat and UGC videos for paid ads. Our complete guide to influencer marketing in India explains how the pieces fit, and the services overview lists everything we run.
If you want to see which formats we would use for your product, send us a brief and you will have a creator plan within 48 hours.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an Instagram influencer cost in India?
Typical asking prices for one Reel run about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 for nano creators, ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 for micro, ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh for mid-tier, ₹2 lakh to ₹8 lakh for macro and ₹5 lakh upward for mega. Niche, engagement and usage rights move the price. See the full influencer rates guide.
How do I find influencers on Instagram to promote my product?
Start from your buyer's city, age and language, then search by hashtag, Reels keyword and Instagram's creator marketplace, and ask each shortlisted creator for audience-insight screenshots. Check reach per follower on recent Reels, not follower count. Our guide to finding influencers in India walks through each step.
What is the difference between a collab post and a partnership ad?
A collab post is an organic post co-authored by the brand and the creator, shown on both grids. A partnership ad is a paid ad that uses the creator's post and handle, with budget and targeting set by the brand. Collabs build the grid; partnership ads buy reach. Details are on our whitelisting page.
Do Stories or Reels work better for sales?
They do different jobs. Reels bring in new viewers; Stories reach followers who already trust the creator and carry a tappable link sticker, so they usually produce the clicks and code redemptions. We run a Reel first and a Story set with a unique code the next day, then compare cost per result.
What is barter collaboration on Instagram?
Barter means the creator posts in exchange for a product or service instead of a fee. It works with nano and some micro creators who want the product. The post still needs an ASCI disclosure label, and the benefit can attract TDS above ₹20,000 a year. Read our barter collaboration guide.
What is a good Instagram engagement rate for Indian influencers?
Indicative ranges are 5% to 10% for nano, 3% to 6% for micro, 1.5% to 4% for mid-tier, 1% to 2.5% for macro and 0.5% to 2% for mega creators. Use the engagement rate calculator and compare against the creator's tier, not a single benchmark.
How long does an Instagram influencer campaign take to launch?
Our creator plan reaches you within 48 hours of the brief call. After you approve it, a typical micro-influencer campaign is live in two to three weeks, with product shipping and script approvals taking most of that time. Larger names take longer because of fee negotiation and contracts.
Can a small brand run Instagram influencer marketing on a limited budget?
Yes. A pilot with 10 to 20 nano and micro creators can start from a few lakh rupees, and you learn which hooks and audiences work before scaling. Our pricing page shows what different budgets buy and how our fee is shown separately from creator fees.
