In short
- Pune's audiences are three overlapping groups: students, IT and engineering professionals, and old-city Marathi households, each reached by different creators.
- Ganeshotsav is the biggest local moment, and the university and fest calendar runs alongside it.
- Marathi, Hindi and English all work, and a Marathi script with the Puneri accent builds trust that a translated one cannot.
- We run Pune with local creators and a New Delhi strategy team, travelling for shoots and meetups. We have no Pune office.
Pune runs on three clocks: the academic term, the IT shift and Ganpati. A brand that plans around only one of them misses most of the city. Influencer Gully casts Marathi, student and tech creators for Pune, plans and reports from New Delhi, and travels for shoots and launches; there is no Pune office. Brief us and a plan with named creators, content ideas and costs comes back in 48 hours.
Pune is often written up as Mumbai's smaller neighbour. It is better read as a city with its own audiences, its own accent and its own calendar, and the sections below cover what changes in a brief.
Students, techies and old Pune
| Audience | Where | Language | What they respond to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Students | Around Fergusson College Road, Kothrud, Viman Nagar, Lavale and the university campuses | English, Marathi, Hinglish | Food, apparel, apps, edtech, cafés, fests |
| IT and engineering workforce | Hinjewadi, Kharadi, Magarpatta, Baner, Aundh and the Pimpri-Chinchwad belt | English, Hinglish, Marathi | Careers, money, fitness, weekend trips |
| Old Pune households | The peths: Sadashiv, Shaniwar, Budhwar, Kasba | Marathi | Festivals, sweets, regional fashion, traditional retail |
| Café and professional set | Koregaon Park, Kalyani Nagar, Camp | English, Hinglish | Dining, fashion, wellness, events |
These groups hardly overlap, so a brief that says "Pune audience" needs a second sentence. A study-app brand should aim at the first row, a jewellery label at the third, and a co-working or coffee brand at the second and fourth. We confirm which with audience insights before shortlisting.
Marathi, Puneri and why accent matters
Marathi is the language of the old city and of family and festival content, and Puneri Marathi, with its own vocabulary and a reputation for dry wit, is part of the city's identity. One piece of local culture shows how seriously Pune takes this: Puneri patya, the humorous signboards outside shops, are a genre of their own. A translated slogan from Hindi reads as foreign. A creator who says the idea in their own Marathi, with the local sarcasm, earns a hearing.
Hindi and English carry students, the IT crowd and café audiences, and Hinglish dominates short-form comedy. Marathi comedy, short films and music creators are a major Pune niche, with audiences across Maharashtra rather than just the city.
Industries in Pune and what they want
Auto and engineering. Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chakan and Ranjangaon host a large cluster of vehicle, component and machinery makers. Their consumer-facing brands want test-ride, ownership and dealer-footfall content, while suppliers' marketing is closer to B2B. See automotive and EV influencer marketing.
IT and startups. Hinjewadi, Kharadi and Magarpatta hold IT parks, and the city has a visible startup scene across SaaS and D2C. Creator work leans on career, productivity, gadgets and finance.
Education. Savitribai Phule Pune University, Symbiosis, MIT-WPU, COEP, FLAME and many private colleges and coaching classes make education the city's signature sector. Edtech, test-prep, study-abroad and student-banking brands all target the same months.
Cafés, restaurants and nightlife. Koregaon Park, Kalyani Nagar, Viman Nagar and Baner-Balewadi have dense café and restaurant clusters, and openings depend on the first fortnight of footfall. See restaurant and QSR influencer marketing.
Sports and outdoors. Pune has a strong trekking and cycling culture around the Sahyadri hills, and city teams such as the Puneri Paltan kabaddi franchise make sport a local rallying point.
Ganeshotsav: Pune's biggest brand moment
Ganeshotsav in Pune is a city-wide event organised around neighbourhood mandals, with the five "manache" Ganpatis, led by the Kasba Ganpati, and the Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati among the most visited. Processions on the last day run for many hours, and central Pune has road closures and heavy footfall through the festival. For brands this opens several formats:
- Pandal-hopping vlogs: creators walk a curated route, usually early morning or late night to avoid peak crowds.
- Eco-friendly idols, decor and gifting: shadu-clay idols, plantable decor and sweets brands that fit the green-festival trend.
- Mandal sponsorships: brands sponsor pandal decor or activations, which creators then cover.
- Local sweets, snacks and kitchen content: modak recipes, family prasad, festive menus.
Because the festival is so concentrated, we confirm permissions for any crowded location, avoid shoots in procession areas and book creators six to eight weeks ahead.
Pune against Mumbai: why the two need separate lists
Brands often ask to run one Maharashtra campaign out of Mumbai. The two cities share a language and a highway, and little else in how creators and audiences behave.
| Dimension | Pune | Mumbai |
|---|---|---|
| Biggest audience | Students and IT staff | Office workers, families, film-adjacent audiences |
| Creator structure | Mostly independent creators, many students | More managers and agencies at the mid and macro tiers |
| Marathi register | Puneri, drier and more formal | Mumbaiya, mixed with Hindi |
| Festival centre | Ganeshotsav and the peths | Ganeshotsav, Navratri and Diwali across suburbs |
| Shoot logistics | Compact, with a few hubs | Spread along train lines, traffic-heavy |
We usually plan two creator lists under one brief and one report, and let results decide how much budget moves between them after the first wave.
Weekend Pune: trekking, cycling and day trips
Pune's weekends are spent outdoors. Sinhagad, Rajmachi, Lohagad, Tamhini Ghat and Mulshi are all within a day's trip, and the monsoon waterfalls bring a rush of trek and travel content between June and September. This suits outdoor gear, helmets, hydration and snack brands, car and bike launches, homestays and fitness apps. Creator selection matters here more than in a city café: a trek creator needs real experience, since monsoon forts are crowded and risky, and brands should not brief anyone into a location where local restrictions apply. We ask for a route plan and local guidance in the creator's brief, and we keep the call to action about the product, not the stunt.
The Pune calendar
Festival dates follow the lunar calendar and move each year, so treat windows as seasons.
| Window | Moment | What brands do |
|---|---|---|
| December | Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav (classical music) | Culture, hospitality, apparel, premium retail |
| January to February | Pune International Film Festival, college fests | Entertainment, student brands, cafés |
| March to April | Gudi Padwa, the Marathi new year | Gold, apparel, home, appliances |
| June to July | Ashadhi Wari, with palkhis leaving Alandi and Dehu | Regional content, family brands, travel |
| June to August | Admission season | Edtech, student housing, banking, stationery |
| August to September | Ganeshotsav | Sweets, decor, gifting, mandal activations |
| September to October | Navratri | Ethnic wear, jewellery, makeup |
| October to November | Diwali | Gifting, appliances, auto, sweets |
Admission season and Ganeshotsav are the two peaks that overlap least, and a student-focused brand can run a full second campaign in August without competing with festival noise.
Where Pune content gets shot
| Spot | Use it for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Fergusson College Road and JM Road | Student cafés, street food, fashion | Evening crowds |
| Koregaon Park and Kalyani Nagar | Cafés, dining, creator meetups | Parking; venue booking lead times |
| Shaniwar Wada, Aga Khan Palace | Heritage backdrops | Permissions for commercial filming |
| Laxmi Road and Tulshibaug | Traditional retail, festival and bridal shopping | Narrow lanes; shop owners' permission |
| Sinhagad Fort, Parvati Hill, Pashan Lake | Trek, fitness and nature content | Weekend crowds; early starts |
| Hinjewadi, Kharadi, Magarpatta | Office and tech-park content | Campus and security rules |
| Phoenix Marketcity, Viman Nagar | Retail and brand events | Mall filming rules |
How we run it in Pune
Pune keeps our six-stage process from how we work and adds a local accent. We start casting with Marathi and student creators, filtered by audience city and age. We write briefs in the language creators will speak, using the Puneri register for older audiences. For education and fest briefs we time activity to the academic calendar and confirm campus rules first. For Ganeshotsav and launches a strategist comes from Delhi, because timing and permissions are easier to handle on the ground.
What it costs
Rates follow tier, niche and rights, not the city. Whether Pune is treated as a metro or a large tier 2 city, 2026 creator-platform survey benchmarks are close: 3 to 4 percent engagement for metros and 3.5 to 4.5 percent for tier 2 (a vendor estimate, not audited). Student and campus campaigns often work well with nano creators at ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 per Reel, bundled across many accounts.
| Deliverable | Typical range per creator |
|---|---|
| Nano (1K to 10K) Reel | ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 |
| Micro (10K to 100K) Reel | ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 |
| Micro Story set | ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 |
| Micro YouTube Short | ₹8,000 to ₹40,000 |

How Pune connects to nearby cities
Mumbai is about three hours away by road along the expressway and shares Marathi and some audiences, while Nagpur opens central Maharashtra. To the south-east, Hyderabad and Bangalore are the nearest large metros for a wider south and west plan. The guide to influencer marketing in India explains the channel from scratch, the cities hub lists the other markets, and a brief gets the Pune plan moving.

Frequently asked questions
Do you work with Marathi influencers in Pune?
Yes. Marathi creators are the base of campaigns for family, food, festival and regional-retail brands, and Hindi and English creators cover students and the IT crowd. We brief in the language the creator will speak and check audience city split, since many Marathi creators have followers across Maharashtra. See regional influencer marketing.
How much does an influencer marketing company in Pune charge?
Agencies usually charge in one of three ways: creator fees at cost with a management fee on top, a flat fee for the campaign, or a monthly retainer. Published benchmarks suggest 15 to 25 percent of creator spend for the management fee. Pune plans heavy on nano and student creators spread the budget across many small fees. See the influencer rates guide or the cost calculator.
Do you have an office in Pune?
No. We are based in New Delhi and run Pune campaigns with local creators. Strategy and reporting stay in Delhi, and we travel to Pune for Ganeshotsav shoots, launches and meetups when needed, shown as a separate line in the estimate. You have one named strategist throughout.
Can influencers work for brands during Ganeshotsav in Pune?
Yes, and it is the city's largest brand moment. Common formats are pandal-hopping vlogs, eco-friendly idol and decor content, sweets and gifting Reels, and mandal sponsorships. Plan around road closures in central Pune, get permissions for crowded locations, and brief creators six to eight weeks ahead because calendars fill early.
How do I choose the best influencer marketing agency in Pune?
Check that the agency can cast in Marathi, show audience city and age splits for each creator, and explain its contract and reporting. For student brands ask how campus rules are handled. Our guide to choosing an influencer marketing agency lists the questions.
Can an edtech app use influencers to reach school students in Pune?
Yes, with care. Under the DPDP Rules 2025, apps that handle children's data need verifiable parental consent and cannot run tracking or targeted ads aimed at children, with the main duties due around May 2027. We target parents and older students, avoid child-directed tracking and keep claims substantiated. This is general information, not legal advice. See edtech influencer marketing.
Can you run campaigns across Pune and Mumbai together?
Yes. The two cities share Marathi and some audiences but differ in scale and culture, so we usually plan separate creator lists under one brief and one report. Mumbai is about three hours away by road, so a shoot or meetup in both cities on one trip is possible but tight.
