In short
- Cast by how the buyer decides: impulse products suit many nano and micro Reel creators, considered purchases suit fewer reviewers who can show the product in use for longer.
- Start with 12 to 15 creators and ₹2.5 lakh to ₹4 lakh of creator fees. Published asking prices run about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 per nano Reel and ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 per micro Reel.
- Give every creator a unique code or link and read sales on posting days against the weeks before. Views and likes do not tell you whether the product sold.
- Results arrive in layers: views in days, codes inside two weeks, cheaper orders once the best posts run as creator ads. Set the read date before launch.
To hire influencers for product promotion, decide what job the creator does for your product and cast for that job. Some introduce the product to people who have never heard of it, some prove it works by using it on camera, and some push people who are already about to buy. Book 10 to 15 creators for a first round, give each a unique code or link, and judge them on orders, not likes.
This post is for a product that is already on sale and needs more sales or repeat demand. For a new product, start with our product launch campaigns service. For brands that sell online and watch acquisition cost closely, our D2C brands page shows the programme built around that number. The channel as a whole is mapped in our complete guide to influencer marketing in India.
What creators do for a product, and what to expect
A creator does one of three jobs. They introduce the product to people who did not know it existed, prove it by using it on camera, or push people who are already considering it. One Reel can do all three, but a plan works better when each creator has a main job, because the job decides the format, the offer and the number you judge them on.
Be realistic about outcomes. About 60% of Indian consumers say they act on influencer content, for example by buying, and 69% use it for product information, according to a 2025 study backed by Kantar (Campaign India). That is the opportunity, not a promise for your product.
Published single-campaign results come from the brands or agencies themselves. The agency behind a Garnier Men creator push, which used more than 100 comedians, reports sales up 44% and a sell-out on the top three quick-commerce platforms (Branding in Asia). A POCO F7 5G launch used 250 tech micro-influencers and reported 15.15 million Instagram Reel views and a day-one sell-out (MediaNews4u). Both are self-reported, both are large brands, and neither is a benchmark for yours.
Our planning view of what a sensible first round delivers:
- Within days: views, saves and shares, and the first comments that show which hook landed.
- Inside two weeks: code redemptions and link orders, plus a visible bump in sales on the days creators posted.
- Over four to six weeks: cheaper orders once the best posts run as creator ads, and the first repeat purchases.
- Not promised: a fixed return on round one. The first round buys information about which creators and hooks sell.
Cast by how your buyer decides
The price of the product and the length of the decision set the creator type. These price bands are our working bands, not an industry standard.
| Product type | How the buyer decides | Creators to cast | Formats | What to count |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Impulse, under about ₹500 | Sees it, likes it, buys that day | Many nano and micro lifestyle creators | Short Reel showing use, Story set with a code | Code orders, sales on posting days |
| Considered, about ₹500 to ₹5,000 | Compares, reads reviews, asks friends | Micro creators who review; a few mid-tier reviewers | Demo Reel, comparison post, YouTube integration | Cost per order, saves, branded search |
| High-consideration, above about ₹5,000 | Researches for weeks, wants proof | Fewer, deeper reviewers on YouTube and Instagram | Dedicated review, 30-day use diary | Qualified visits and enquiries, then sales |
Niche changes the price. Published rate cards price tech creators at about 1.3x to 1.5x a baseline niche and finance creators at 1.5x to 2x, so a premium niche belongs in the budget from day one. Every creator is scored with the Gully Score before booking, with 30 of 100 points on audience authenticity, so you are not paying for followers who will never buy.
Hooks worth testing first
The first three seconds of a Reel decide whether anyone sees the product. Give creators room to try different openings, and test two at most in round one:
- Problem first: the annoyance the product removes, shown before the product appears.
- Price on screen: the price and what it replaces, said plainly.
- Side by side: the product against what the viewer uses today, with no invented claims.
- A week with it: a short diary that suits considered purchases.
Keep the offer, product page and code identical across creators so the comparison stays fair.
How many creators and how much to spend
Size the round by the question you need answered, not by the money available. We use the same sizing logic as in how to run an influencer pilot.
| Round | Creators | Creator fees (before GST) | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 6 to 8 nano and low micro | ₹1.5 lakh to ₹2 lakh | Whether any audience responds |
| Standard | 12 to 15 nano and micro, one mid-tier | ₹2.5 lakh to ₹4 lakh | Which hook or tier sells at lower cost |
| Scale | 40 to 60 across tiers and languages | ₹12 lakh and above | Cost per order at volume, by city |
These are our starting points, not rules. One agency's published guide says overhead eats most of a programme below about ₹2 lakh a month, so a very small budget should ask a single question.
Published asking prices per creator, from the benchmarks behind our influencer rates guide:
| Tier | Reel | Story set | Static or carousel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nano (1K to 10K) | ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 | ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 | ₹1,000 to ₹8,000 |
| Micro (10K to 100K) | ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 | ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 | ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 |
| Mid-tier (100K to 500K) | ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh | ₹20,000 to ₹80,000 | ₹30,000 to ₹2 lakh |
A YouTube integration costs about ₹15,000 to ₹60,000 at micro tier and ₹60,000 to ₹2.5 lakh at mid-tier. These are asking prices, and the same follower band is quoted at 2x or more apart by different sources. On top, plan about 35% for usage rights if you will run creator ads, about 40% for 30-day exclusivity, 18% GST, and, if you use an agency, published benchmarks suggest a management fee of about 15% to 25% of creator spend. Compare scenarios in the influencer cost calculator.
A ten-week timeline
| Weeks | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1 to 2 | Brief, offer and claims fixed; codes, links and marketplace tracking built; shortlist vetted |
| 3 | Products shipped and used; contracts signed; concepts approved |
| 4 to 5 | Round one posts go live, staggered over ten days so each spike can be read |
| 6 | First read: pause weak hooks, request ad rights from the strongest posts |
| 7 to 9 | Best posts run as creator ads; top creators rebooked for a second post |
| 10 | Report: cost per order by creator, hook and tier; decide to scale, fix or stop |
A typical micro-influencer campaign goes live two to three weeks after the plan is approved. Send the product early: the Department of Consumer Affairs' guidance says endorsers should not promote what they have not used (PIB), so creators need time with it.
How to count the sales
Use four layers, because each one misses something the others catch.
- A unique code per creator. It gives a floor of provable orders. Codes leak and undercount; see tracking sales with discount codes.
- A unique link with UTM tags. It shows clicks and sessions by creator; see UTM links for influencer campaigns.
- A before-and-after read. Compare sales of the product on posting days with the four weeks before, adjusting for any other activity. This catches viewers who searched instead of clicking.
- A post-purchase question. "How did you hear about us?" with creator names as options.
If the product also sells on a marketplace, codes and links will not follow the buyer there. Read marketplace sales and branded search around posting dates instead. Our guides to influencer marketing attribution and measuring influencer ROI cover the methods in more depth.
Decide the break-even before you spend: break-even orders equal the campaign cost divided by the margin you make on one order after product cost, shipping and payment fees.
Claims and disclosure
ASCI's guidelines make the brand and the creator jointly responsible for the post conforming to the code, and creators are expected to satisfy themselves that the advertiser can back its claims (ASCI). Give every creator a list of approved claims and a list of claims they must not make.
A disclosure label such as Ad, Sponsored, Collaboration or Free gift must be upfront and prominent, and on the visual for Stories. If you give one creator products worth more than ₹20,000 in a financial year, TDS under section 194R may apply, with the thresholds now sitting in the Income-tax Act 2025; see our post on TDS and GST on influencer payments. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.
Mistakes in product promotion
- Casting by followers. A large audience in the wrong city or age group sells nothing. Check audience insights, as in how to read influencer audience insights.
- One script for everyone. Identical Reels look like adverts and teach you nothing.
- Running out of stock. A post that sends orders to a sold-out page is wasted. Hold a buffer.
- Judging on day three. Read the window plus two weeks.
- One code for all creators. You cannot rank creators or pay bonuses.
- Forgetting ad rights. Asking for rights after a post performs costs more than asking before.

Frequently asked questions
How many influencers do I need to promote a product?
For a first round, 12 to 15 nano and micro creators is a sound starting point: enough that one creator's lucky or unlucky week does not decide the result, small enough to be cheap to get wrong. Scale to 40 or more only after the first read. Our guide to how many influencers you need gives the formula.
How much does it cost to hire influencers for product promotion in India?
A first round of 12 to 15 creators usually lands between ₹2.5 lakh and ₹4 lakh in creator fees, using published asking prices of ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 per nano Reel and ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 per micro Reel. Add GST, usage rights, ad media and any management fee. See the influencer rates guide.
Should I send free products or pay influencers?
Both work, for different jobs. Free products suit nano creators and tell you whether the product appeals, but they cannot test price or guarantee a post. Paid deals give you deliverables, dates and approvals. Many brands pay micro creators and gift nano creators. Our barter collaboration guide covers the gifting side.
How long before I see sales from influencer promotion?
Views and saves show within days, code redemptions and link orders inside the first two weeks, and the full effect, including creator ads and repeat purchases, over four to six weeks. Plan a ten-week programme with a written read date, and judge sales on posting days against the four weeks before, not on day three.
Which is better for product promotion: nano, micro or macro influencers?
Micro creators are the usual core, because they combine believable recommendations with Reel prices of ₹8,000 to ₹80,000. Nano creators add volume and local reach cheaply. Macro creators help when you need fast visibility. Read micro vs macro influencers before choosing the mix.
Can I use the influencer's content in my own ads?
Only with usage rights written into the contract. Many brands run the best creator posts as partnership ads from the creator's handle; one 2025 brand report cited a 53% ROAS rise from doing so, a self-reported figure (exchange4media). See Instagram partnership ads setup.
Do influencers have to disclose that they were paid or gifted a product?
Yes. ASCI treats money, free products and discounts as material connections, so the post needs a clear label such as Ad, Sponsored, Collaboration or Free gift, placed upfront. The brand shares responsibility for the post conforming. See our ASCI influencer guidelines explainer.
