In short
- Book creators 10 to 12 weeks before the festival. Brands that start two weeks out compete for whoever is left, and published rate cards list 25% to 40% extra for turnarounds under 48 hours.
- Plan three phases: warm-up with gift guides and styling, a peak of offers and codes in the last 7 to 10 days, and a tail of post-festival gifting.
- Work back from the sale: break-even orders equal creator spend divided by margin per order after discount. If the plan needs more orders than creators can plausibly bring, shrink it.
- Stock and delivery decide the result. A post that sends orders to a sold-out page or a missed delivery date wastes the fee.
To hire influencers for festive sales, work backwards from the festival. Agree the budget and break-even ten to twelve weeks ahead, book creators six to eight weeks ahead, run a warm-up of gift guides and styling, a peak of offers and codes in the last seven to ten days and a tail of post-festival gifting, and put ads behind the posts that sell. Brands that start late pay rush fees and take the creators who are left.
This post is the hiring plan. Our guides to Diwali influencer marketing ideas and sale season influencer marketing cover what to post, and the festival marketing calendar lists the dates. Codes and creator ads are run through our performance influencer marketing and creator ads and whitelisting services, and the category views sit on fashion and apparel and D2C brands. What results to expect
About 60% of Indian consumers say they act on influencer content, for example by buying (Goat Agency and Kantar, 2025). Festive weeks are when that matters most, and also when everyone else is competing for the same attention. A 2025 vendor report, carried as a paid press release and so low in confidence, says Diwali is the peak season and most brands plan two weeks to a month ahead (The Tribune). Planning earlier than that is an edge.
We found no reliable published India benchmark for the sales lift from festive creator campaigns. Our planning view:
- Warm-up: saves, shares and branded search rise as gift guides and styling posts circulate.
- Peak: orders on codes and links in the last seven to ten days, with the best posts amplified as ads.
- Tail: gifting, wedding-season and repeat orders, if the offer allows.
- A caution: festive demand lifts every brand, so some of your festival sales would have happened anyway. Compare with the same days last year, adjusted for growth, not with an ordinary week.
The booking calendar
F is the festival day or the sale start. These are our working lead times for micro-led campaigns, the same ones used in the festival calendar post.
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| F minus 12 to 10 weeks | Budget, goal and break-even agreed; offer calendar drafted |
| F minus 10 to 8 weeks | Creators shortlisted, vetted and booked; ad rights and exclusivity agreed |
| F minus 8 to 5 weeks | Briefs and contracts signed; gifting boxes shipped (allow 10 to 14 days) |
| F minus 5 to 4 weeks | Concepts approved; codes, links and delivery cut-off dates built |
| F minus 4 to 2 weeks | Warm-up posts live |
| F minus 10 days to F | Peak posts with codes; creator ads on; Stories with the order-by date |
| F to F plus 7 days | Tail posts; gifting and wedding-season offers; stock read daily |
| F plus 2 weeks | Read: orders by creator, sales against last year's same days |
If you are reading this in the week of 1 November 2026, Diwali on 8 November is too close for a full programme. Wedding season opens on 20 November, Black Friday is on 27 November and Christmas and New Year follow, all per our calendar, and Diwali 2027 falls on 29 October 2027, so booking for it should start in early August 2027. Dates can differ by a day between sources.
Three phases, three jobs
| Phase | Goal | Creators and formats | Offer | Count |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Warm-up | Be on the gift list | Micro lifestyle creators, stylists; gift guides, "what I am wearing", hamper ideas | No discount, just a reason to save | Saves, shares, branded search |
| Peak | Turn intent into orders | Micro and nano creators; Stories with a code; creator ads | The offer, with an end date | Orders on codes, cost per order |
| Tail | Catch late gifting and repeat | Micro creators re-running the best posts | A smaller offer or a gift option | Repeat orders, returns |
For regional festivals, Navratri and Durga Puja campaigns and wedding season influencer marketing show how timing and creators change by region and moment.
Work back from the sale
Break-even orders = creator spend divided by margin per order after discount. Margin per order is the order value less product cost, shipping, payment fees and the discount itself.
| Creator spend | Margin ₹400 | Margin ₹600 | Margin ₹800 |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹5 lakh | 1,250 orders | About 833 orders | 625 orders |
| ₹10 lakh | 2,500 orders | About 1,667 orders | 1,250 orders |
Then ask: can the creator programme plausibly bring that many orders in the window? If your festive target is ₹2 crore, a plan that needs ₹30 lakh from creators is 15% of it, and you decide whether that is believable. Deeper discounts cut margin and raise the break-even, so treat depth as a cost; see tracking sales with discount codes.
Who to hire, how many and what it costs
| Plan | Creators | Creator fees (before GST) | Phases |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single phase | 10 to 15 micro and nano | ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh | Peak only |
| Standard | 25 to 35, with one or two mid-tier | ₹8 lakh to ₹12 lakh, plus ad media | Warm-up, peak and tail |
| Multi-region | 60 or more across languages, with mid-tier or macro | ₹25 lakh and above | All three, by region |
These are our planning bands. Published asking prices behind them: nano Reel ₹2,000 to ₹10,000, micro Reel ₹8,000 to ₹80,000, mid-tier Reel ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh, and a Story set (the usual carrier for a code) ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 at nano level and ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 at micro level. Add about 35% for usage rights, about 40% for 30-day exclusivity if a competitor could book the same creator, 18% GST and, with an agency, a management fee that published benchmarks put at 15% to 25% of creator spend. Rush work adds 25% to 40% for turnarounds under 48 hours (StarClinch). Use the influencer cost calculator to compare scenarios.
Stock, delivery and offer rules
- Stock for code orders. Hold a buffer on the items creators feature. A sold-out page after a good post is a lost fee.
- State the cut-off. Tell viewers the last order date for delivery before the festival, in the Story itself.
- Put the end date in the post. An offer that has expired is an advertising problem, not only a customer-service one.
- One offer, one wording. Creators and your site should say the same thing.
- Check the codes. Test every code on the live site before the first post.
Creator ads in festive weeks
Take the warm-up post that earned the most saves and run it as a creator ad in the peak. That needs ad rights in the contract from the start. About 76.6% of surveyed brands have run partnership ads with influencers, though only 23.3% do so regularly (2026 vendor survey), so doing it every festive season is a real edge. See Instagram partnership ads setup.
Labels and tax
Every paid or gifted festive post needs a clear label such as Ad, Sponsored, Collaboration or Free gift, upfront and on the visual for Stories (ASCI). A gifting box to a creator is a benefit: if the total to one person passes ₹20,000 in a financial year, section 194R may apply, now within the Income-tax Act 2025. See TDS and GST on influencer payments. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.
Mistakes in festive hiring
- Booking late. The best-fit creators are taken, and rush fees apply.
- Discounting the whole range. Deep discounts cut margin and raise the break-even.
- No stock buffer. A sold-out page wastes the post.
- Reusing last year's creators unchecked. Audiences change; check them again.
- Everyone posting on the same two days. Stagger, so each spike can be read.
- One national post for every region. Festivals differ by language and state.
- Counting all festive sales as creator sales. Compare with last year's same days.

Frequently asked questions
When should I hire influencers for Diwali or other festive sales?
Ten to twelve weeks before the festival for strategy and budget, six to eight weeks for creators to be shortlisted and booked, and four to five weeks for the brief and contracts. Gifting boxes need ten to fourteen days to arrive. Our festival marketing calendar lists the dates and lead times.
How much does it cost to hire influencers for festive sales in India?
A single-phase plan with 10 to 15 micro and nano creators runs about ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh in fees, and a three-phase plan with 25 to 35 creators plus creator ads about ₹8 lakh to ₹12 lakh, using published asking prices of ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 per micro Reel. See the influencer rates guide.
How many influencers do I need for a festive campaign?
Start from the orders you need and what a creator can plausibly bring, then work back. A mid-sized brand often uses 20 to 35 creators across three phases, mostly micro and nano, with a few mid-tier stylists or reviewers. Regional festivals call for regional creators. See how many influencers you need.
Do influencers charge more during the festive season?
The published rate cards we reviewed do not give a festive premium, but availability tightens, rush work costs 25% to 40% more and creators may ask for exclusivity, which published guides price at about 30% to 50% for 30 days. Book early and agree dates, rights and exclusivity in the contract.
How do I measure festive sales from influencers?
Use a code and a tagged link per creator, then compare sales on posting days with the same days last year, adjusted for growth, because festive demand lifts every brand. Add a post-purchase question. Our guides on discount codes and attribution explain the methods.
Is it too late to start a festive campaign with under two weeks to go?
A full programme is too late, but three things still work: run partnership ads behind creator posts that already exist, seed a few nano creators if the product can arrive in time, and book the next festive window now. Read sale season influencer marketing for the marketplace windows.
Should I run creator ads during festive sales?
Yes, for the posts that already sell. A creator post run as a partnership ad reaches people who do not follow the creator, and you control the timing and radius. Ask for ad rights when you book, since asking later costs more. See Instagram partnership ads setup.
