In short
- Holika Dahan is on Sunday 21 March 2027 and Holi on Monday 22 March, a three-day weekend. Holi 2026 was on 4 March, so dates moved 18 days.
- Creators play Holi, they do not film brand content while playing. Brief for pre-Holi prep posts and post-Holi recovery posts, with only Stories on the day.
- Consent, skin safety, water use and alcohol or bhang hooks are the four ways Holi campaigns go wrong. Write each into the brief.
- A 20 to 40 creator micro campaign is enough for most brands. Plan seven weeks ahead, since March also holds Eid, the cricket season and board exams.
Holi influencer campaigns work when you accept one fact: creators play Holi, they do not film your brand while they do. The content that sells is made in the week before (what to do for skin, hair, clothes and the table) and the days after (how to clean up and recover). This post is the Holi slice of our guide to influencer marketing in India, with twelve ideas, a countdown plan and the rules that keep a colourful festival respectful.
When Holi falls, and what sits around it
For New Delhi, Holika Dahan is on Sunday 21 March 2027 and Holi on Monday 22 March, according to Drik Panchang. Saturday to Monday is a three-day weekend for many, which favours travel, house parties and long shoots. Holi 2026 was on 4 March, so the festival moves nearly three weeks between years.
March 2027 is crowded. Ramadan is expected to end around 10 March with Eid around 9 to 11 March, the cricket season may open about 10 March on tentative dates, and board exams run through the month. Creators who are fasting, studying or covering cricket have less time to shoot. The festival marketing calendar shows the full pile-up, and our posts on Eid and Ramadan and cricket season cover the neighbours.
What audiences do online around Holi
Before: shopping for colours and pichkaris, white outfits, thandai and gujiya ingredients, plus anxiety about what the colour will do to hair and skin. Plans for a long weekend go up, and Stories ask where people are playing.
During: the feed turns personal. Friends' photos beat brand posts, and creators post Stories, not produced Reels.
After: searches for colour removal, stain removal, dry skin and hair repair rise. The people who were playing are now tired, itchy and practical, which is why post-Holi content is often the best buy.
Twelve Holi campaign ideas
| # | Idea | Creators | Format | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Pre-Holi skin and hair prep | Beauty and haircare micro creators | Reel, carousel | Claims you cannot prove |
| 2 | Save the white kurta | Home, laundry and family micro creators | Before-and-after Reel | Show real stains and the real process |
| 3 | Colours from the kitchen | Food, craft and parent creators | Reel | Child safety; no tracking of children |
| 4 | Thandai and gujiya in 30 minutes | Food creators in Hindi and regional languages | Recipe Reel | No bhang or alcohol twists |
| 5 | Phone-safe Holi | Tech micro creators | Test Reel with pouches or cases | Waterproof claims need evidence |
| 6 | Holi playlist and party setup | Music and lifestyle creators with speakers | Reel, Story polls | Neighbours and noise |
| 7 | White and one bright colour | Fashion micro creators | Lookbook carousel | Stock and delivery before the date |
| 8 | Long-weekend Braj and hills trail | Travel creators | Trip Reel | Crowds, hotel claims, permissions |
| 9 | Consent-first Holi | Comedy and women creators | Short skit | Tone: funny, not preachy |
| 10 | Post-Holi recovery | Beauty and cleaning creators | Reel, saved carousel | Post 23 to 28 March |
| 11 | Dry and water-wise Holi | Sustainability creators | Reel | Green claims need proof |
| 12 | Campus Holi | Student creators | Day-in-the-life Reel | Alcohol, bhang, hostel rules |
The two that most brands underbuy are 9 and 10. A consent piece gives a brand a reason to be in the feed that is not a discount, and recovery content catches people when they are actually searching. Idea 3 needs a note: children playing a recipe or craft is fine, but children's data and targeted advertising aimed at children are restricted under the DPDP Act and Rules, so do not run creator ads aimed at children.
Holi is not the same everywhere
Brief regional creators on their own Holi. Around Mathura and Vrindavan the celebration runs for days before the festival, with its own songs and customs. In Maharashtra it continues into Rang Panchami a few days later. West Bengal marks Dol Jatra on the same day as Holi in 2027, with yellow and white clothes and a spring-festival feel rather than a colour fight. Punjab's Hola Mohalla follows Holi with Sikh martial displays and is not a colour festival, so do not treat it as one. A creator from Lucknow, Jaipur, Pune or Kolkata will describe a different Holi, and audiences notice when a brief flattens them.
A seven-week countdown for Holi 2027
| Date (2027) | Weeks to Holi | Action |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Feb | 7 | Brief written; goals and codes set |
| 8 Feb | 6 | Creators booked; Ramadan starts about 9 Feb, so shoots avoid fasting hours |
| 22 Feb | 4 | Kits shipped and expert content approved |
| 1 Mar | 3 | Wave 1: prep content live |
| 8 to 15 Mar | 2 to 1 | Wave 2: outfits, snacks, kits with codes; Eid and cricket compete for feeds |
| 19 Mar | 0 | Last-order Stories before the long weekend |
| 20 to 22 Mar | 0 | Stories only, from creators who choose to post |
| 23 to 28 Mar | after | Wave 3: recovery content, with creator ads on the best |
| 5 Apr | after | Report: codes, saves, cost per order |
What goes in a Holi brief
Beyond the usual campaign brief template, a Holi brief needs seven extra lines:
- Consent: creators will not colour or film anyone without clear consent, and will not film children without a parent's written permission.
- Claims sheet: the exact skin, hair, stain or waterproof claims the brand can prove, with the proof attached.
- Label: the wording and placement, including the Story visual.
- Windows: prep posts by 15 March, Stories only on the day, recovery posts from 23 March.
- Exclusions: no alcohol or bhang, and no water-wasting scenes.
- Approvals: two rounds, with a turnaround under 24 hours in the last week.
- Escalation: who answers if a post draws complaints, and who can take it down.
Budget notes
Use the ranges in our influencer rates guide: a nano Reel about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000, a micro Reel ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 and a mid-tier Reel ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh. A micro Story set is ₹5,000 to ₹20,000. Add about 35 percent for usage rights, which is our planning figure; published guides say creator-ad (whitelisting) rights add 60 to 120 percent over an organic post, and the media spend is separate. A rush under 48 hours adds 25 to 40 percent in published rate cards, and Holi shoots are rushed by nature, so lock approvals early.
Holi suits micro creators because the window is short and the content is domestic. A mid-tier name earns their fee when you need reach for a launch, such as a new kit. Management fees run about 15 to 25 percent of creator spend in published benchmarks. Our cost calculator lets you test the mix.
What to measure
Holi is short enough to judge fast. Track orders and code redemptions by creator, saves and shares on prep content as the best signal of intent, branded search in the week after, and cost per order against your paid-social average. For the recovery wave, compare orders in the 23 to 28 March window with the same days in February. Also log complaints and negative comments about skin reactions or claims, since they are the earliest warning that a claim needs to change. Our guide to measuring influencer marketing ROI explains how to set the baseline before you start.
Cultural sensitivities
- Consent is the line. "Bura na mano, Holi hai" is not permission. Brief creators never to show anyone being coloured against their will, and never to film women or strangers without clear consent.
- Skin and eye safety. Some colours are chemical-based. Do not show colours on the eyes, face of children or open wounds, and do not recommend products as treatment.
- Water. Many cities face shortages in March. Avoid hosing and water-wasting imagery.
- Animals. Never colour pets or street animals for a shot.
- Religion. Holika Dahan marks a story with Holika as the villain; avoid jokes about her or the pyre, and avoid communal framing of any kind.
- Alcohol and bhang. Do not depict or promote either, which also avoids age-gating problems.
Disclosure and claims
ASCI treats money, free products, gifts and barter as a material connection, so a kit sent to a creator needs a label such as Free gift, Collaboration or Ad. A Story needs the label on the visual, and a Reel of 15 seconds or less needs it on screen for at least 3 seconds. The brand shares responsibility and must be able to substantiate claims. In ASCI's 2025-26 report, personal care was the second-largest category of influencer violations, at 16.9 percent, behind illegal betting.
If a creator moves from showing a product to giving dermatological or medical advice, ASCI's health rules expect qualifications to be stated upfront; its April 2025 update says generic content does not need them. A skin expert reading ingredients on camera is covered, a beauty creator showing her routine is not. See the ASCI influencer guidelines explained. Kits a creator keeps count towards the ₹20,000 yearly TDS threshold under section 194R. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Frequently asked questions
When is Holi in 2027?
Holika Dahan is on Sunday 21 March 2027 and Holi (Rangwali Holi) on Monday 22 March, for New Delhi. That makes a three-day weekend for people with Saturday off, which helps travel and party content. Regional dates can differ slightly, and Bengal's Dol Jatra and Punjab's Hola Mohalla fall around the same days. Holi 2026 was on 4 March.
How far ahead should we plan a Holi influencer campaign?
Seven weeks. Brief and book creators in early to mid February, ship kits by about 22 February, and go live around 1 March for pre-Holi prep content. In 2027 Ramadan, Eid and the cricket season all fall in March, so creators' calendars are tight, and a rush under 48 hours can add 25 to 40 percent.
Which creators work best for Holi campaigns?
Beauty, haircare, home and laundry, food, fashion and student creators, mostly at micro level. Add a couple of qualified skin or hair experts if you make skin claims, regional creators for Braj, Maharashtra and Bengal audiences, and a comedy or women's-safety voice for a consent piece. Our micro-influencer service casts these groups.
How much does a Holi influencer campaign cost?
Creator fees follow published ranges: about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 for a nano Reel, ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 for a micro Reel and ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh for a mid-tier Reel. Add usage rights, creator ads, kits, courier and a management fee of about 15 to 25 percent. See the influencer rates guide.
What claims can a Holi skincare or haircare post make?
Only claims the brand can substantiate, and ASCI holds the brand and the creator responsible. Personal care was the second-largest influencer violation category in ASCI's 2025-26 report. If a creator gives dermatological advice rather than a product demo, ASCI's health rules expect qualifications to be stated upfront. See our ASCI guide.
Should brands post on Holi morning?
Mostly no. Creators are playing, phones are in pouches, and feeds are full of friends' photos. Post prep content in the week before, Stories on the day, and recovery content from the next day. The 23 to 28 March window is often the cheapest attention of the festival for beauty and cleaning brands.
