App install costs

Influencer marketing cost for app installs: from views to a paying user

No reliable India benchmark gives a cost per install for creator campaigns, because the cost is the creator's fee divided by a funnel only your app knows. Here is how to build that funnel, price each step and check a plan against your ceiling.

In short

  • Install cost is the creator fee divided by views, link taps, store conversion and activation. On placeholder rates, one ₹24,000 Reel costs ₹400 an install but ₹2,286 per first transaction.
  • Across nine plausible-looking combinations of tap rate and store conversion, cost per install ranges from ₹133 to ₹1,200. A test beats any benchmark.
  • A fixed fee plus a bonus per verified first transaction caps your downside. At 5 first transactions it cost ₹3,000 each, against ₹4,800 for a flat fee.
  • Check a plan before you fund it: target users divided by users per 1,000 views, times cost per 1,000 views. The example plan overshoots its ceiling by 27%.

Influencer marketing for app installs costs whatever the creator's fee comes to once you divide it by the funnel behind it: views, link taps, store conversion, registration and the first transaction. We found no reliable India benchmark for cost per install from creators, so this post builds the funnel from placeholder rates. On those rates, one ₹24,000 Reel costs ₹400 an install but ₹2,286 per first transaction, and the cost per install alone can swing nine-fold with small changes in tap rate.

Our influencer marketing cost guide lists creator fees by tier, and our apps and startups page explains how to measure installs, sign-ups and first transactions. How to hire influencers for app installs covers the brief and the ceiling. This post is the cost arithmetic between them. For the wider channel, read the complete guide to influencer marketing in India.

The cost ladder: from a view to a paying user

Cost per install is the creator's fee over installs, and installs depend on every step before them. This ladder uses placeholder conversion rates that you should replace with your own pilot data. The fee is ₹24,000 for a micro Reel with 40,000 views, which is ₹600 per 1,000 views.

StepAssumptionCountCost per unit
Views40,00040,000₹600 per 1,000 views
Link taps0.5% of views200₹120 per tap
Installs30% of taps60₹400 per install
Registrations70% of installs42₹571 per registration
First transactions25% of registrations10.5₹2,286 per first transaction

Each step removes people, and the cost per unit rises with it. The install is the cheapest event on the ladder and the least useful, because a user who never transacts earns you nothing. That is why we rank creators by cost per first transaction. Our post on influencer marketing attribution covers how to tie each step to a creator.

Why a benchmark would mislead you

Change the two earliest assumptions and the install cost moves a long way. This grid holds the ₹600 per 1,000 views and varies the tap rate and the store conversion.

Link tap rateStore conversion 20%30%45%
0.25% of views₹1,200₹800₹533
0.5%₹600₹400₹267
1%₹300₹200₹133

Every cell looks plausible, and the dearest is nine times the cheapest. A figure quoted by someone else's app tells you nothing about yours, since tap rate depends on the creator's link placement and store conversion on your listing page. The only number that counts is the one from a test. Our pilot guide explains how to run it, and cost per 1,000 views shows how to price the attention behind the grid. The fees themselves come from published rate cards, such as a Reel and YouTube rate card, at about ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 for a micro Reel.

Compare formats on the same ladder

The format changes the tap rate more than it changes the fee. In practice the link sits in a Story sticker, a bio or a video description, and each gets a different share of viewers to tap. These three micro-creator rows use planning fees inside the published ranges and the same placeholder conversion after the tap: 30% to install, 70% to register, 25% of those to a first transaction.

FormatFeeViewsTap rateInstallsFirst transactionsPer installPer first transaction
Reel₹24,00040,0000.5%6010.5₹400₹2,286
YouTube integration₹40,00025,0001.5%11319.7₹356₹2,032
Story set₹8,0006,0003%549.5₹148₹847

The tap rates are guesses, but the pattern holds for any set of guesses. The Story set is cheapest per user and also the smallest: about 9.5 first transactions from one creator, so it cannot carry a 2,000-user target alone. The Reel brings the most views and the weakest taps. A sensible mix uses Stories to drive taps, Reels to build the audience and YouTube to demonstrate the app. Ask each creator for their last ten link-tap counts, not only their views, before you fix a fee.

Installs show up within days, but first transactions need the window you wrote into the contract. Do not judge a creator on day-three installs.

Three ways to pay, and what each does to cost

Suppose your ceiling is ₹1,800 per first transaction (an assumption, set from your margin as in the hire-influencers post). Take the same micro creator at three levels of result: 5, 10 and 30 first transactions.

First transactions from the creatorFlat ₹24,000₹12,000 plus ₹600 per verified first transaction (capped at 30)₹1,000 per verified first transaction only
5 (weak)₹4,800 each₹3,000 each₹1,000 each
10 (typical)₹2,400₹1,800₹1,000
30 (strong)₹800₹1,000₹1,000

At the weak result every structure but the performance-only one misses the ceiling, and the hybrid loses much less than the flat fee. At the strong result the flat fee wins. The performance-only column looks perfect and often cannot be hired: creators with an audience of buyers can often sell their slot for a fee. We favour the hybrid, which gives the creator a floor and you a limit. Write the event definition, the verification window and the payment date into the contract. See influencer contracts in India.

Pay bonuses after verification. Bonuses should wait until your measurement partner marks the events valid, and the fixed fee should not wait. Set up fraud filters and test installs before the first brief, as our performance influencer marketing service describes.

Check a plan before you fund it

Work backwards from the target. Suppose you want 2,000 first transactions in six weeks and your ceiling is ₹1,800 each, so the plan must cost no more than ₹36 lakh in creator fees. On the ladder above, 1,000 views produce 0.2625 first transactions (1,000 × 0.5% × 30% × 70% × 25%). You need 2,000 ÷ 0.2625 × 1,000, about 76 lakh views. At ₹600 per 1,000 views that costs ₹45.7 lakh, which is 27% over the ceiling.

The plan does not fit, and the table shows which lever fits it. Each row changes one input and shows what the same target would cost.

ChangeCreator fees for 2,000 first transactionsAgainst the ₹36 lakh ceiling
None (the baseline above)₹45.7 lakh27% over
Double the tap rate to 1%, with a Story link sticker and a code₹22.9 lakh37% under
Cut cost per 1,000 views to ₹400₹30.5 lakh15% under
Lift activation from 25% to 35%, with a better first-run experience₹32.7 lakh9% under
All three₹10.9 lakh70% under

Fee negotiation moves only the cost-per-1,000-views row. The tap rate and activation rows are in your hands. The funnel levers are worth more than a discount on the Reel. They are also assumptions: you cannot bank a doubled tap rate before a pilot shows it.

Niche premiums and category rules

Tech and finance creators cost more. One 2026 rate guide puts tech at 1.3x to 1.5x a baseline and finance at 1.5x to 2x, so the ₹24,000 Reel becomes ₹31,200 to ₹36,000 for a tech reviewer and ₹36,000 to ₹48,000 for a finance creator. Apply the premium only to creators in those niches. A finance app has a second cost: ASCI's Addendum II requires SEBI registration for creators commenting on stocks and investments, which narrows the supply. See fintech and BFSI influencer marketing and our ASCI guidelines explainer.

Creator ads can lift the tap rate, since the platform can show the post to people likely to install. They carry an uplift on the fee and a media bill, both covered in influencer whitelisting cost in India.

What to put in the plan

  • A tracking line. A measurement partner or link tool has a price that varies by vendor, so get a quote and budget it before the first brief.
  • A bonus pool. Cap it, and compute the worst case before you sign.
  • A verification holdback. Pay bonuses only after events are valid.
  • A creator-ads line. Keep media separate, as in the campaign budget template.
  • A retention read. A 2026 vendor survey found 62.1% of brands agree long-term creator deals give better ROI, which suits apps where habit is the goal. See how to reduce influencer marketing costs.

Frequently asked questions

How much does influencer marketing cost for app installs in India?

There is no reliable published India benchmark for cost per install from creators. The cost is the creator's fee divided by installs, and installs depend on views, link taps and store conversion. On placeholder rates a ₹24,000 micro Reel with 40,000 views cost ₹400 an install. Run a small test to find your own. See the influencer rates guide for fees.

What is a good cost per install from influencers?

One that sits under your ceiling: the margin from a user who completes a first transaction, divided by the share of installers who reach it. A cheap install that never transacts is expensive. Rank creators by cost per first transaction, then registration, then install. See how to hire influencers for app installs for the ceiling method.

Should I pay influencers per install?

Pure per-install pay shifts all risk to the creator, so good creators often decline and fraud risk rises. A fixed fee plus a bonus per verified first transaction is a common middle, and it paid ₹3,000 per first transaction at the weak case in our example against ₹4,800 for a flat fee. See performance influencer marketing.

How many views do I need for 1,000 installs?

It depends on your tap rate and store conversion. On placeholder rates of 0.5% link taps and 30% store conversion, 1,000 views produce 1.5 installs, so 1,000 installs need about 6.7 lakh views. Halve the tap rate and you need twice the views. Measure both in a pilot. See how to calculate influencer CPV and CPM.

Why is my cost per install low but my cost per user high?

Because installs are the cheapest step of the funnel. Registration, activation and first transaction each remove users, so cost per first transaction is the install cost divided by those conversions. In our example it was ₹2,286, almost six times the ₹400 install cost. Judge creators on the later step. See influencer marketing attribution.

Do finance and tech app creators cost more?

Usually. One 2026 rate guide puts tech creators at 1.3x to 1.5x a baseline and finance at 1.5x to 2x, which is ₹31,200 to ₹36,000 and ₹36,000 to ₹48,000 on a ₹24,000 base. Finance creators also face ASCI and SEBI rules. See fintech and BFSI influencer marketing.
