In short
- In our example, ₹6.1 lakh of creator fees becomes ₹8.3 lakh of creator spend and ₹11.7 lakh all-in, before product units and ad media.
- Rights and exclusivity are a quarter of creator spend in the example. Both can be narrowed after launch day, when you know which posts won.
- Product cost depends on what you sell. The same creator plan adds under 1% for a ₹199 snack and about 20% for a ₹14,999 gadget.
- Units that reach creators less than 48 hours before the embargo lifts turn the plan into rush work, which published cards price at +25% to 40%.
A product launch campaign usually costs nearly twice its creator fees once usage rights, exclusivity, a management fee and GST are added, and that is before the units you seed and the ad media behind the best posts. In the example below, ₹6.1 lakh of base fees becomes ₹11.7 lakh all-in. A launch costs more than the same creators booked in a quiet month because everything is bunched into days, the exclusivity window is real, and the product itself becomes a budget line.
Our product launch campaigns page explains the sequence of seeding, teasers, launch-day wave and review cycle. This post prices it, and goes one level below the influencer marketing cost guide, which lists rates by tier. For the wider channel, read the complete guide to influencer marketing in India. Use the numbers as a frame to check a quote, and replace each planning fee with a real quote.
Five costs a launch has that an ordinary campaign does not
| Launch cost | Why it appears | Published figure |
|---|---|---|
| Exclusivity | You do not want a rival's launch next to yours | +30% to 50% for 30 days; +80% to 150% for 90 days |
| Rights for launch ads | The best posts get promoted around the date | +25% to 50% depending on the card, with media extra |
| Seeded product | Creators need units before the embargo lifts | Your landed cost per unit, plus courier |
| Rush work | Late units or late approvals compress the schedule | +25% to 40% under 48 hours |
| Ad media | Launch-day posts are run as ads to cold audiences | Typically 2x to 4x the fee of the posts promoted |
All are asking prices from published cards, so use them to anchor a negotiation. See exclusivity clauses and usage rights in influencer content for how to write each in a contract.
A launch budget, phase by phase (example)
This is a hypothetical launch for a consumer product, not a past campaign. Every fee is a planning figure inside the ranges behind our rates guide: ₹1,25,000 for a mid-tier Reel, ₹20,000 for a micro Reel and ₹8,000 for a micro Story set. Rights are 35% and exclusivity 40%, the values our cost calculator uses.
| Phase | What is bought | Cost | Share of creator spend |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seeding, weeks before | 40 units to nano and micro creators, no fee, no promised post | Product only | 0% |
| Launch wave, days 0 to 3 | 2 mid-tier Reels, 10 micro Reels and 10 micro Story sets, all under embargo | ₹5,30,000 | 64% |
| Review wave, weeks 2 to 4 | A second Reel from the 4 best micro creators | ₹80,000 | 10% |
| Rights, 60 days | 35% on the 2 mid-tier Reels and the 4 best micro Reels (₹3,30,000) | ₹1,15,500 | 14% |
| Exclusivity, 30 days | 40% on the 2 mid-tier Reels (₹2,50,000) | ₹1,00,000 | 12% |
| Creator spend | ₹8,25,500 | 100% | |
| Management fee | 20%, inside the published 15% to 25% band | ₹1,65,100 | |
| GST at 18% | Cautious case: on creator spend and fee | ₹1,78,308 | |
| All-in, before product and media | ₹11,68,908 |
Creator spend is 1.35 times the base fees of ₹6.1 lakh, and all-in is 1.92 times. Rights and exclusivity together are 26% of creator spend, which is the part you can still change after launch day, because you will know which posts won.
Timing matters to finance. On our typical terms, half the creator fees are paid when creators are booked and the balance when the posts go live, so roughly ₹4.1 lakh leaves the account before the first post. See the pricing page for how we invoice.
The same shape at three sizes
The gap between base fees and the all-in total widens as a launch grows, because bigger launches carry more exclusivity and more rights. These columns use the same logic as the example: management fee 20%, GST 18%, rights 35% and exclusivity 40%.
| Small launch | The example above | Large launch | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Launch wave | 1 mid-tier Reel, 6 micro Reels, 6 micro Story sets: ₹2,93,000 | ₹5,30,000 | 1 macro Reel at ₹4,00,000, 4 mid-tier Reels, 20 micro Reels, 20 micro Story sets: ₹14,60,000 |
| Review wave | 2 micro Reels: ₹40,000 | 4 micro Reels: ₹80,000 | 8 micro Reels: ₹1,60,000 |
| Rights and exclusivity | Rights only: ₹57,750 | ₹2,15,500 | ₹7,31,000 |
| Creator spend | ₹3,90,750 | ₹8,25,500 | ₹23,51,000 |
| All-in, before product and media | ₹5,53,302 | ₹11,68,908 | ₹33,29,016 |
| All-in as a multiple of base fees | 1.66x | 1.92x | 2.05x |
The small launch drops exclusivity altogether. It is the first line to go when money is short, because it pays for a protection you can partly get by briefing early. If you have ₹5 lakh, buy the small shape and do not shrink the larger plan by cutting a fifth from every line, which leaves too few creators in each phase to learn anything.
What the product itself adds
The creator plan above needs 52 units: 40 seeded and 12 for the paid creators. The product's price decides whether that matters. These landed costs are assumptions, so use your own.
| Product (assumed) | Landed cost per unit | Product and courier for 52 units | Share of the all-in total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Packaged snack, ₹199 | ₹60 | ₹8,320 | 0.7% |
| Skincare kit, ₹1,499 | ₹450 | ₹28,600 | 2.4% |
| Wireless gadget, ₹14,999 | ₹7,000 | ₹2,94,000 | 20.1% |
For the gadget we assume the 12 paid creators get loaned units that come back (₹500 round-trip handling each) and the 40 seeded creators keep theirs (₹7,200 each with courier). Tax rules decide which is cheaper. TaxGuru's summary of the CBDT circular says a product returned after a shoot attracts no TDS, while a kept product is a benefit valued at fair market value, and 10% TDS under section 194R applies once benefits to one person pass ₹20,000 in a financial year. A kept ₹14,999 gadget sits just under that line, and a second item in the year crosses it. Individuals and HUFs paying are exempt up to ₹1 crore of prior-year business turnover, a company is not, and the Income-tax Act 2025 applies from 1 April 2026, so check the current section with your CA. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.
Free products are a material connection under the ASCI influencer guidelines, so every seeded post needs a label even though no fee was paid. See what is influencer seeding and our gifting and seeding service.
The cost of a late unit
A launch fails on logistics before it fails on creative. Published cards put turnaround under 48 hours at +25% to 40%. If units for the paid creators arrive late and every launch-wave post becomes rush work, the extra on ₹6.1 lakh of base fees is ₹1,52,500 to ₹2,44,000. Few creators will accept that without charging it, and a post that is rushed is also a post that is less likely to be good.
Three habits keep the premium off the invoice. Ship paid-creator units at least a week before the embargo date. Set a content deadline three or four days before launch day so edits do not run into it. And hold ten percent of creator spend as a reserve for the one creator who cancels. See how to run an influencer pilot for a small dry run before a big date.
Decide the media line separately
Launch-day posts are the natural ones to run as ads. One agency guide puts media at typically 2x to 4x the creator fee for a whitelisted post. Promote three posts, one mid-tier Reel at ₹1,25,000 and two micro Reels at ₹20,000, and you have ₹1,65,000 of fees behind ads and media of ₹3,30,000 to ₹6,60,000. That is up to 57% of the creator spend in the example, and it is a separate decision from the creator contracts.
Do not fund media for all twelve launch posts. Wait for day-one numbers, give each candidate post the same small test budget, and fund the two or three that hold attention. Read influencer whitelisting cost in India for the uplift-versus-media arithmetic.
What to cut first
Cut the lines you can still change after launch day, before touching the launch-wave fees. Each rupee removed from creator spend also removes the 20% fee and 18% GST on it, so it saves about ₹1.42 all-in.
| Cut | Saving on creator spend | Saving all-in |
|---|---|---|
| Exclusivity on one mid-tier creator, not two | ₹50,000 | about ₹70,800 |
| Rights on the top 3 posts only, not 6 | ₹57,750 | about ₹81,800 |
| Seed 25 units, not 40: snack, kit, gadget | none | ₹2,400, ₹8,250, ₹1,08,000 |
See how to reduce influencer marketing costs for the full list of levers. Do not cut disclosure review, contracts or vetting. A launch post that breaches the ASCI Code gets pulled during the week it matters.
One public launch, for shape
A July 2025 phone launch reported by MediaNews4u used 250 tech micro-influencers on Instagram and YouTube alongside a celebrity launch film, and the agency reported 15.15 million Instagram Reel views. No costs were published, so it tells you about the shape of a big launch, many small voices plus one large one, and nothing about its price. The same shape fits a smaller brand at a smaller scale, as in our example.

Frequently asked questions
How much does influencer marketing cost for a product launch in India?
It depends on the tiers and the add-ons. In our example, a launch with two mid-tier and ten micro creators plus a review wave has ₹6.1 lakh of base fees and ₹11.7 lakh all-in, before product and ad media. Published Reel asking prices run from ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 for micro and ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh for mid-tier creators. See the influencer rates guide.
How much of a launch budget should go to the launch day itself?
In our example the launch-day wave is about 64% of creator spend and the review wave about 10%, with rights and exclusivity making up the rest. That split is a planning habit, not a benchmark. Move money from rights to the review wave if the product needs explaining, and keep a reserve for replacements. See our product launch campaigns page.
Do I have to pay TDS on products sent to influencers at a launch?
A product returned after a shoot attracts no TDS. A product the creator keeps is a benefit, valued at fair market value, and section 194R applies 10% TDS once benefits to one person pass ₹20,000 in a financial year, with exemptions for small individual payers. Confirm with your CA. See TDS and GST on influencer payments.
Should I seed products before paying creators for a launch?
Seeding early gives creators time to try the product and gives you early content, but a seeded creator owes you nothing unless you agree it, and any post still needs a disclosure label. Seed a wider group cheaply and pay for a smaller group with contracts. See what is influencer seeding.
How long before a launch should I brief creators?
Brief paid creators two to three weeks ahead and ship units before then, so nobody works to a deadline under 48 hours, which rate cards price at 25% to 40% extra. Our typical micro-influencer campaign is live in two to three weeks, and a launch needs more lead time because of embargoes. See influencer exclusivity clauses.
Is it cheaper to hire many micro creators or a few big ones for a launch?
Many micro creators cost less per creator but more to manage, and a few large ones are easier to run but carry bigger exclusivity and rights bills. Most launches mix both, with a couple of larger voices for the launch moment and many smaller ones for proof. See micro vs macro influencers.
