In short
- Raksha Bandhan was on 28 August 2026 and is on Tuesday 17 August 2027. Treat Saturday 14 August as the practical delivery deadline for outstation gifts.
- Long-distance siblings are the story. Creators who live away from home and ship a gift home make the most credible content for gifting, delivery and sweets brands.
- Avoid gender cliches such as sisters get jewellery and brothers get gadgets, and write for siblings of any gender, cousins and chosen family.
- Plan ten weeks out: brief in early June, book by late June, ship hampers in early July and go live in the last four weeks.
Raksha Bandhan is a gifting festival with a hard delivery deadline, so the campaign calendar is set by your courier, not your creative. The best influencer campaigns start four weeks out with gift ideas, push hampers and last-order reminders in the final ten days, and stay quiet on the day itself. This post is the Raksha Bandhan slice of our guide to influencer marketing in India, with eleven ideas, a countdown, budgets and the sensitivities that matter.
The dates, and why the delivery date matters more
Raksha Bandhan was on Friday 28 August 2026 and falls on Tuesday 17 August 2027. For New Delhi, Drik Panchang lists the Rakhi thread window in 2027 as 5:51 AM to 12:58 PM, with Purnima starting at 10:28 AM on 16 August.
The week around it matters more than the day. Independence Day is Sunday 15 August 2027, so many people travel home over the weekend of 14 and 15 August, and a gift that has not reached an outstation address by Saturday 14 August is late. For same-city gifts, quick delivery stretches the window to 16 August, but not further. The festival calendar for influencers shows the neighbours.
What audiences do online
In our experience gift shopping starts about three weeks ahead, in two waves. Siblings who live apart choose first and order early, because the parcel has to travel. Local shoppers decide in the last week. Sisters research rakhis, sweets and gifts to give; brothers search for what to buy in return, and many search late.
The feed fills with sibling content: childhood photos, video calls, couriers arriving, grandmothers' recipes. Audiences respond to specificity here. A creator saying "my brother lives in Pune and I ordered this on 3 August" tends to land better than a generic gift list, because the problem is real.
Eleven Raksha Bandhan campaign ideas
- The real-sibling gift swap. Two creators who are actually siblings buy each other a gift under a set budget and react. Reel on a collab post. Real siblings only: audiences spot staged ones.
- The long-distance rakhi. Creators who live away from home, students and young professionals, post the journey of a gift to their family: order, courier, video call. Story set plus Reel. Suits delivery, gifting and sweets brands.
- Gift guides by budget. Lifestyle micro creators list gifts under ₹500, ₹1,000 and ₹2,000 for a brother, sister or cousin, with true prices and delivery dates.
- Hamper unboxing. Nano and micro creators open your box with their family on camera. Brief them for the reaction, not a script.
- DIY rakhi with children. Parent and craft creators make rakhis from household items. Get written parental consent for children on camera.
- Sibling truths. Comedy creators perform small-scale sibling situations with the product in the scene, not the punchline. Short Reel.
- Sweet-box taste test. Food creators compare mithai, chocolates and regional sweets, in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali or Tamil. See regional creators.
- Gift your sister what she would pick. Women creators advise brothers on what to buy, which undoes the cliche that brothers choose badly. Works for fashion, beauty and personal-care gifting.
- Grandmother's rakhi table. Family creators film elders cooking the festival meal. A strong fit for food and appliance brands.
- Plantable and eco rakhis. Sustainability creators show the seed rakhi growing. Any "eco-friendly" claim must be provable.
- Rakhi for those who show up. Brand and creators tie rakhi with delivery partners, nurses or police, with the people featured paid and credited. Skip it if it feels staged.
Which products fit, and what each needs
| Product | Creator role | Delivery risk to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Sweets and chocolates | Taste tests, unboxing | Melting, shelf life, packaging |
| Personal care and grooming kits | Gift guides, unboxing | Skin-claim rules |
| Fashion and accessories | Gift lists for siblings | Size and returns |
| Gadgets and small appliances | Tech gift picks | Warranty and delivery windows |
| Gifting and delivery apps | The long-distance story | Last-mile deadlines |
Perishables need a delivery window and a plan for heat in August. Never ask a creator to promise "delivered by Rakhi" for a date you cannot guarantee; the audience will hold the creator, not the courier, responsible.

Budget notes
Our influencer rates guide lists the published ranges: a nano Reel about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000, a micro Reel ₹8,000 to ₹80,000, a micro Story set ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 and a mid-tier Reel ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh. Add about 35 percent for usage rights, our planning figure. Published guides put creator-ad (whitelisting) rights at +60 to 120 percent over an organic post, with ad media on top, and rush work under 48 hours at +25 to 40 percent.
Raksha Bandhan is cheaper to run at micro level than Diwali because the window is shorter and the content is domestic. Mid-tier creators earn their fee for reach in the final two weeks, when everyone is shopping. A published benchmark puts management fees at about 15 to 25 percent of creator spend. Test mixes in the cost calculator.
Two budget lines are easy to miss. Hampers cost product plus courier, and a hamper a creator keeps is a benefit for tax: over ₹20,000 per creator in a financial year, section 194R can apply at 10 percent, with exemptions for some small individual creators. See TDS 194R and GST on influencer payments.
What to measure
Count orders placed before each courier cut-off, because an order after the cut-off is a complaint waiting to happen. Track orders by creator code, delivery-on-time rate, damaged or late-delivery complaints, and cost per first order against your paid-social average. Look at repeat purchase in October and November too: someone who bought a Rakhi gift from you is a warm buyer for Bhai Dooj and Diwali. Our guide to measuring influencer marketing ROI explains how to set baselines before the first post.
Cultural sensitivities
- Siblings come in many forms. Write for brothers, sisters, cousins, siblings of any gender and friends who are family. A campaign that assumes one family shape loses viewers who do not fit it.
- Not everyone has a sibling, and not everyone is close. Estranged, bereaved and only-child audiences see these posts too. Keep the tone warm without guilt.
- Avoid "protection" as one-way. Many families now frame the festival as mutual support. Sisters protect and support too.
- Skip gender cliches. Sisters do not all want jewellery or skincare, and brothers do not all want gadgets.
- A gift does not equal love. Do not imply that an expensive hamper proves affection, or that a cheap one disappoints.
- Respect the ritual. The tying of the thread has its own timings and rules in different communities; do not mock them.
Disclosure, children and tax
ASCI requires a clear label whenever money, free products, gifts or barter connect a creator to a brand. For a hamper that means Free gift, Collaboration or Ad, placed upfront, on the visual for a Story and on screen for at least 3 seconds in a Reel of 15 seconds or less. If you give creators codes for a share of sales, the Affiliate label is a permitted option. The brand shares responsibility and should check each draft.
Children need extra care. The DPDP Act and Rules require verifiable parental consent for children's data and bar tracking, behavioural monitoring and targeted advertising aimed at children, and press reports put the main duties around 12 to 14 May 2027, three months before Raksha Bandhan 2027. Do not run creator ads aimed at children, and keep minors in family-creator content with written consent. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Frequently asked questions
When is Raksha Bandhan in 2027?
Raksha Bandhan is on Tuesday 17 August 2027. For New Delhi, the Rakhi thread ceremony window runs from 5:51 AM to 12:58 PM according to Drik Panchang, and the Purnima tithi starts on 16 August. In 2026 it was on Friday 28 August. Local timings differ, but gift deadlines are set by couriers, so plan delivery by 14 August.
How early should a brand start Raksha Bandhan influencer content?
Gift-guide content should start about four weeks before, when shoppers begin choosing and outstation orders need transit time. Book creators about eight weeks ahead and ship hampers by early July. The last-order reminders run in the final ten days, and any rush work under 48 hours can add 25 to 40 percent to fees.
Which creators suit Raksha Bandhan campaigns?
Real siblings, creators who live away from home, parent and craft creators for DIY rakhis, food creators for sweets, comedy creators for sibling humour, and men's grooming and gadget creators speaking to gifting brothers. Mostly micro and nano level. Our micro and nano influencer service builds these groups at 20 to 100 creators.
How much does a Raksha Bandhan campaign cost?
Creator fees follow published ranges: about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 for a nano Reel, ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 for a micro Reel and ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh for a mid-tier Reel. Hampers, courier, usage rights, creator ads and a management fee of about 15 to 25 percent come on top. See what influencers charge in India.
Can we feature children in Raksha Bandhan creator content?
Children making rakhis is a popular format, but the DPDP Act and Rules require verifiable parental consent and bar tracking and targeted advertising aimed at children. Press reports put the main duties around 12 to 14 May 2027, before Raksha Bandhan 2027. Keep children in family-creator content, get written parental consent and do not target them with ads.
Does a Rakhi gift hamper sent to a creator need a disclosure?
Yes. ASCI treats a free product as a material connection even when unsolicited, so the post needs a label such as Free gift or Collaboration. The hamper is also a benefit for tax, and over ₹20,000 a year per creator section 194R can apply. See our barter and gifting guide.
