In short
- Diwali is on 8 November 2026, with Dhanteras on 6 November. In 2027 Dhanteras is on 27 October and Diwali on 29 October. Plan the 2027 campaign from mid-July.
- The shopping run starts at Dussehra, not in Diwali week. Post inspiration first, buying content next, and delivery-cutoff reminders in the last five days.
- Hampers sent to creators need a disclosure label, and a creator keeping over ₹20,000 of benefits in a year can trigger 10 percent TDS under section 194R.
- Mix nano, micro and a few mid-tier creators, and keep budget aside to run the best posts as creator ads in Dhanteras week.
The best Diwali influencer campaigns run in four waves over about five weeks and are booked in summer: inspiration content before Dussehra, buying content from Dussehra to Dhanteras, last-order content in Diwali week, and Bhai Dooj and post-Diwali content after. This post is the Diwali slice of our guide to influencer marketing in India, written for the brand that has to decide which of eleven ideas to buy.
Diwali 2026 is on Sunday 8 November, eight days after this post is published, so it serves two readers: a brand trying to do something useful this week, and a brand planning Diwali 2027. The festival calendar for influencers shows where Diwali sits in the year.
Diwali dates for 2026 and 2027
| Moment | 2026 | 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Dussehra | Tue 20 Oct | Sat 9 Oct |
| Dhanteras | Fri 6 Nov | Wed 27 Oct |
| Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) | Sun 8 Nov | Fri 29 Oct |
| Govardhan Puja | 9 or 10 Nov | Sat 30 Oct |
| Bhai Dooj | 10 or 11 Nov | Sun 31 Oct |
Dates are for New Delhi from Drik Panchang (2026) and AstroSage (2027). Calendars disagree by a day on the last two 2026 rows.
Two things follow. The run from Dussehra to Diwali is about 20 days in both years, which is your real shopping window. And Diwali 2027 lands ten days earlier than Diwali 2026, so creators who were free on 8 November this year may be shooting for another brand by mid-October next year.
If you are reading this in the week of 31 October 2026
A fresh creator programme cannot be briefed, contracted, shipped and approved in eight days without rush fees, which published rate cards put at +25 to 40 percent. Three things still work:
- Run creator ads on content that already exists. If creators posted for you in September or October, ask for partnership-ad rights and spend behind the best posts; see creator ads and whitelisting.
- Seed a few nano creators for Bhai Dooj and post-Diwali. Only if the product can arrive by 6 November.
- Start the Diwali 2027 plan now, while this year's results and creator performance are fresh.
What audiences do across the five days
Before Dussehra people are still planning: cleaning schedules, outfit shortlists, gift lists, what to renovate. From Dussehra the saves and shares rise on gift guides and décor ideas, and the click goes to a cart. Dhanteras is a purchase day for utensils, silver, gold and, for many families, vehicles and appliances. The days after are about ritual and family: puja thali, rangoli, outfits for photos, sweets exchanged, and Bhai Dooj with siblings.
Online, people also leave. In our experience many creators go quiet on Lakshmi Puja evening, and a brand post that day competes with family photos. Schedule the push for the days before, not the night itself.
Eleven Diwali campaign ideas, in the order shoppers need them
Wave 1, inspiration (from about five weeks before Diwali)
- The home reset. Home and lifestyle micro creators film a whole-house clean, declutter or repaint, with your product in the job. Reel plus Stories. Suits cleaning, home and appliance brands.
- One fabric, three Diwali looks. Fashion micro creators style a single outfit three ways. Carousel plus Reel. Suits ethnic wear and accessories.
- DIY décor and rangoli. Craft and art creators run tutorials with your kit or lights, shot as collab posts so both accounts share the reach.
Wave 2, buying (Dussehra to Dhanteras)
- Gift guides by budget. Gifting and lifestyle micro creators build lists for ₹500, ₹1,000 and ₹2,500, with real prices. Saved carousels perform well; add a code.
- Team and client gifting. Office-life and LinkedIn creators show what to gift staff and clients; see our LinkedIn and B2B creator service.
- Hamper unboxing. Nano and micro creators open your box on camera. Keep the box worth filming.
- Mithai against dry fruit. Food creators taste-test sweets, dry-fruit boxes and healthier swaps, in Hindi and regional languages. See regional creators.
- Buy this before Diwali. Tech and home creators compare TVs, air fryers, soundbars and smart lights on price and features.
Wave 3, last mile (Dhanteras week)
- Dhanteras buying explainer. Creators who know utensils, silver and jewellery explain what to buy, stay clear of investment advice, and show real prices.
- Order-by countdown Stories. Micro creators post "order by Tuesday for delivery before Diwali" Stories with the link sticker. Align it with your actual courier cut-offs.
- Ghar wapsi. Travel and student creators film the journey home, which is the emotional peak for trains, flights and bus brands; see travel and hospitality.
After Diwali, run Bhai Dooj sibling content and "what I bought" wrap-ups, collect UGC, and reuse the best posts as ads in the 48 hours before your own year-end sale.

Budget notes
Use the ranges on our influencer rates guide.
| Item | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Nano Reel | ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 |
| Micro Reel / Story set | ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 / ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 |
| Mid-tier Reel / Story set | ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh / ₹20,000 to ₹80,000 |
| Usage rights (our planning uplift) | +35 percent |
| 30-day exclusivity | +30 to 50 percent (published guide) |
| Creator ad rights | +60 to 120 percent over organic (published guide), plus ad media |
Diwali is the one moment where exclusivity is worth paying for, because rivals post in the same week. Ask for a short window covering Dhanteras week rather than 30 days. Published benchmarks put management fees at about 15 to 25 percent of creator spend, and GST at 18 percent is usually extra. Try different tiers in our influencer cost calculator.
Cultural sensitivities
- Diwali is not one festival. Jain, Sikh and Buddhist communities mark it differently, Gujarat's new year follows soon after, and Bengal celebrates Kali Puja. Do not script one family and one ritual as universal.
- Do not promote firecrackers. Many cities restrict them, and air quality is a live issue in Delhi NCR.
- Keep deities off disposable items and discount banners, and ask creators if a visual could offend.
- No card-game or betting hooks. Teen Patti and "lucky draw" jokes sit close to illegal betting, which was the largest influencer violation category in ASCI's 2025-26 report.
- Not everyone goes home. Allow for people who are alone, grieving or far from family.
Disclosure, labels and tax
Under the ASCI influencer guidelines, a hamper is a material connection even if unsolicited, so the creator needs a label such as Free gift, Collaboration or Ad. It must be upfront: on the visual for a Story, on screen for at least 3 seconds in a Reel of 15 seconds or less, and announced at the start and end of a live. The brand shares responsibility and must be able to back its claims. AI-generated festive visuals or synthetic creators need a label under ASCI's September 2026 synthetic-content guideline, which takes effect three months after signing.
For tax, a hamper a creator keeps is a benefit valued at your purchase price, and 10 percent TDS under section 194R can apply above ₹20,000 per creator in a financial year, with exemptions for some small individual creators. Keep a ledger; see TDS 194R and GST on influencer payments and the ASCI guidelines explained. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.
Next steps
Pair this with the festival calendar, our gifting and seeding service for hamper logistics and the D2C brands page for the commerce side. Raksha Bandhan, which comes two months earlier, uses the same gifting muscles; see Raksha Bandhan campaign ideas. To get a Diwali plan with named creators and costs within 48 hours, send us a brief.

Frequently asked questions
When is Diwali in 2026 and 2027?
For New Delhi, Dhanteras is on Friday 6 November 2026 and Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) on Sunday 8 November. In 2027 Dhanteras is on Wednesday 27 October and Diwali on Friday 29 October, with Bhai Dooj on 31 October. Some calendars list Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj a day apart from others, so confirm with a local panchang before locking posting dates.
How early should we book influencers for Diwali?
For a campaign of any size, brief creators about 15 weeks ahead and book them about 12 weeks ahead. That puts creator booking in early August for Diwali 2027. A 2025 vendor report said most brands plan two weeks to a month ahead, which leaves you with whoever is free. Rush turnarounds under 48 hours can add 25 to 40 percent.
How much does a Diwali influencer campaign cost in India?
Creator fees follow normal published ranges: about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 for a nano Reel, ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 for a micro Reel and ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh for a mid-tier Reel. Add rights, exclusivity, creator ads and management fees. Our influencer rates guide explains each line and our calculator turns it into a plan.
Do Diwali gift hampers sent to influencers need a disclosure?
Yes. ASCI treats free products, even unsolicited ones, as a material connection, so a creator who posts needs a clear label such as Free gift, Collaboration or Ad. Hampers a creator keeps are also a benefit for tax: above ₹20,000 in a financial year, section 194R can apply. See our TDS and GST guide.
Which creators work best for Diwali campaigns?
Home, family, food and fashion micro creators carry most Diwali campaigns because the content is domestic: cleaning, décor, outfits, sweets and gifts. Add a few mid-tier names for reach, regional creators for language, and nano creators for volume and authentic unboxings. Our micro-influencer service casts these groups.
Is it too late to run a Diwali influencer campaign in 2026?
For a full programme, yes. Diwali is on 8 November, and a campaign needs briefing, contracts, product delivery and approvals. What still works is running the best existing creator posts as partnership ads, seeding a few nano creators for Bhai Dooj, and starting the 2027 plan now. See creator ads and whitelisting.
