Exam season

Exam season influencer marketing in India: ten ideas that respect student stress

Exam season is the one moment where the audience is stressed, young and mostly offline, so the best campaigns support students and sell to their parents. This playbook gives ten ideas, 2027 dates, a calm timeline, a budget and the rules.

In short

  • JEE Main session 1 is tentatively 20 to 24 and 28 January 2027, CBSE boards are expected from February and NEET UG has no date. Plan for a window.
  • Students are offline in exam weeks and parents are online in the evening. Sell to parents and support students, and keep hard-sell posts away from exam days.
  • Never use countdown timers, rank comparisons or fear of failure. Put Tele-MANAS (14416) on any stress content, and use qualified counsellors.
  • Do not promise ranks, marks or selection. Topper photos need written consent, and health claims such as memory boosters need proof.

Exam season influencer marketing works when it helps students and sells to their parents: study tools, revision plans and wellbeing content for the weeks before a paper, and relief and next-step content after it. The board and entrance exams run from January to June, and the audience is under real pressure. This post is the exam slice of our guide to influencer marketing in India, written for edtech, stationery, food, sleep, wellness and app brands.

Exam dates for 2027, and what is still unknown

The JEE dates and the NEET gap are from Careers360's report on NTA's revised calendar, which says NTA calls its dates tentative. The CBSE schedule is expected, not official, per Careers360. The CUET result date is from Careers360. State boards and university exams run their own calendars, so check those for any state you target.

The season overlaps others. Valentine's Day on 14 February falls mid-exam for many teens; see Valentine's Day campaign ideas. Republic Day on 26 January sits inside JEE week; see national-day campaigns. Results lead into admissions and freshers' season; see back-to-college campaigns. The festival calendar for influencers shows the neighbours.

What audiences do online

In our experience, students go quiet in exam weeks: phones are put away, accounts are checked in short bursts and the content they do watch is study-related, such as revision plans, timers and "study with me" streams. Parents stay online, mostly in the evening, searching for stationery, food, sleep aids and ways to help. Teachers are active. After the last paper, there is a burst of relief: travel, food, games and OTT.

So the audience splits in two. Reach students with tools and honest, short, useful content. Reach parents with support content and products that make the household calmer.

Ten ideas that help instead of pressure

For the weeks before

  1. Study with me. Student creators run live or recorded sessions with your lamp, stationery, headphones or app on the desk. Announce the sponsorship at the start and end of a live.
  2. The 30-day revision plan. Teacher creators post a week-by-week plan as Shorts and Reels. Suits edtech. Frame it as a plan, never a countdown.
  3. How to help without hovering. Parent creators and counsellors film what parents can do: food, quiet, no comparisons. See parenting and baby.
  4. A free mock-test series. Teachers and students promote free tests with a code. Measure completion, not rank.

For the exam week

  1. The exam-day bag. Creators show what to carry, as set out in the admit card, and a calm morning routine. Suits stationery, snacks and water bottles.
  2. Food that keeps you steady. Dietitian creators film breakfasts and snacks. No memory-booster claims.
  3. Sleep and desk set-up. Sleep creators and student creators show a lamp, a chair and a bedtime routine.
  4. The phone-free hour. Student creators try a focus mode for an hour, with an app's help.

For afterwards

  1. The last-paper celebration. Creators film the first free evening: food, a trip, a game. Time posts to the last paper of each board.
  2. What next after Class 12. Counsellors explain streams, entrance routes and courses in results season. Suits edtech and colleges.

A brand with a healthcare or wellbeing mission can add an eleventh: sponsor a qualified counsellor's stress series with no product in frame. That is a sponsorship, not a sale, and it should say so.

A calm timeline for January to June 2027

WhenAction
By 15 NovTeacher, student and parent creators shortlisted and booked; claims sheet written
By 1 DecBriefs and contracts signed; helpline protocol and moderation plan agreed
December to mid-JanuaryPreparation wave: revision plans, parent guides, desk set-ups
20 to 28 JanJEE Main session 1: support content only, no promotions
February to MarchBoard wave: bag and food posts in the week before each paper; evening parent content; nothing promotional on exam mornings
After each last paperRelief wave
AprilJEE Main session 2 (tentative): repeat a lighter version
May to JuneResults and admissions: what-next content, topper posts with written consent

The calendar will move: CBSE's date sheet is not out, and NEET UG has no date. Write a flexible window into every contract, and add a clause that lets you pause the campaign if an exam is postponed or news breaks that affects students.

Briefing teachers, students and parents

Each group needs a different brief, and the common failure is sending all three the same script.

  • Teachers need the claims sheet, the free resource they will promote and a ban on outcome promises. Ask them to speak from the syllabus they actually teach. Our campaign brief template covers the structure.
  • Students need a short, friendly brief and no pressure to perform. Do not ask a student in exam year to post on exam days, and agree posting times that fit their timetable. Our guide to finding micro-influencers explains where to look.
  • Parents need a brief that treats them as adults: what the product does, what it costs, what the refund policy is and what it will not do. Do not script guilt about "not doing enough".
  • Counsellors and dietitians need to speak in their own words and to be qualified for what they say. Our health influencer rules explain what ASCI expects.

What to measure

Count the actions that help a student, not the ones that scare: free mock-test sign-ups, completion of a first test, saves on revision plans and links tapped from parent posts. Compare paid conversions by creator code, but report them separately from the free actions, because the free actions are what build trust. Track comments flagged and handled, which shows whether the helpline protocol worked. After results, ask each teacher creator how many followers messaged them, since that is where the next season's audience comes from.

Budget notes

Use the ranges on our influencer rates guide: a nano Reel about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000, a nano Story set ₹1,000 to ₹5,000, a micro Reel ₹8,000 to ₹80,000, a micro Story set ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 and a micro YouTube Short ₹8,000 to ₹40,000. Published rate cards do not list live streams separately, so agree a flat fee for a study-with-me live plus a Reel.

Exam content dates quickly, so buy usage for a season rather than for ever: one published guide puts perpetual usage at 80 to 150 percent extra, which is poor value for a post about a 2027 syllabus. Our planning uplift for ordinary usage rights is about 35 percent. Qualified counsellors and doctors cost more; our planning uplift for premium niches is 50 percent. Creator ad rights add 60 to 120 percent over organic in one published guide, and management fees run about 15 to 25 percent of creator spend in published benchmarks. Aim creator ads at parents and adults. Our influencer cost calculator covers the tiers.

Rules for stress, claims and children

  • No countdowns and no fear. No "X days left", no "lose a year", no "if you fail", no rank comparisons, no topper worship, no "sleep is for the weak". Do not tie self-worth to marks.
  • A helpline on stress content. The government's Tele-MANAS is free and works all day and night on 14416, with 1-800-91-4416 as another number. Add it to any post about stress. Do not put it on a sales post.
  • A protocol for distress. If a follower writes that they are in crisis, the creator replies with the helpline, stops the public thread and tells the brand. Agree this in the brief.
  • Qualified experts for stress and health. A counsellor or psychologist giving technical advice must hold the relevant qualification, per ASCI's health rules; generic public-service content does not need one, per ASCI's April 2025 update.
  • No guarantees. The CCPA's 2024 coaching guidelines bar claims of guaranteed selection or assured ranks, require rank, course and whether it was paid to be shown, and need written consent for a topper's name or photo. The CCPA fined 24 coaching centres a total of ₹77.60 lakh in the period reported by PIB. See our coaching institutes guide for the full list.
  • No health miracles. "Memory booster", "focus supplement" and "topper diet" claims need proof, and do not belong in a minor's feed.
  • Do not exploit tragedy. If a student death is in the news, pause promotional posts.
  • Minors. The DPDP Act bars tracking and targeted advertising aimed at under-18s and needs verifiable parental consent, as PIB reported. Its main duties begin around May 2027; see our data-protection guide. Student creators in exam year should not be asked to post during their own papers.

Disclosure, labels and tax

Free access to a course, a fee or a product is a material connection under the ASCI influencer guidelines, so the creator needs a label such as Ad, Collaboration or Free gift. Place it on the visual for a Story, on screen for at least 3 seconds in a short video and aloud at the start and end of a live study session. Creators should not endorse what they have not used, so give every teacher and student real access before they speak. The brand shares responsibility for claims. See the ASCI guidelines explained. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

When are the board and entrance exams in 2027?

JEE Main session 1 is tentatively on 20 to 24 and 28 January 2027, with session 2 in April. CBSE has not published its date sheet as of 1 November, but Class 10 phase 1 is expected in February and March, phase 2 in May, and Class 12 from February to April. NEET UG 2027 has not been announced. State boards run their own calendars.

How do brands run influencer campaigns in exam season without harming students?

Support, do not pressure. Avoid countdown timers, rank comparisons and fear of failure, put a helpline such as Tele-MANAS (14416) on stress content, use qualified counsellors, and keep hard-sell posts away from exam days. Sell to parents in the evening, and give students useful tools such as free mock tests. Our edtech industry page shows the casting.

Which creators work best for exam-season campaigns?

Teacher creators for revision plans, student creators for study-with-me sessions, parent creators for support content, dietitian and sleep creators for wellbeing and qualified counsellors for stress. Local teachers are most trusted. See our micro-influencer service and our guide to influencer marketing for coaching institutes.

How much does an exam-season influencer campaign cost?

Creator fees follow published ranges: about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 for a nano Reel, ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 for a micro Reel and ₹8,000 to ₹40,000 for a micro YouTube Short. Add usage rights, creator ads and a management fee of about 15 to 25 percent. Qualified counsellors cost more. See influencer rates in India.

Can influencers promise ranks or selection in exam-season ads?

No. The CCPA's 2024 coaching guidelines ban claims of guaranteed selection or assured ranks, and require rank, course and whether it was paid to be shown, with written consent for a topper's name or photo. The CCPA has fined coaching centres under them. Our coaching institutes guide covers the rules in full.

What should creators do if a follower says they are in distress?

Do not continue the conversation publicly. Reply with Tele-MANAS, the government's free helpline on 14416, available all day and night, and tell the brand's moderation contact. Agree this protocol in the brief before the campaign starts, and give creators a way to pause the campaign if comments turn serious.
