In short
- Navratri ran 11 to 20 October 2026 and runs 30 September to 9 October 2027. Durga Puja in Kolkata runs about 5 to 10 October 2027. Same days, different audiences.
- Navratri is garba and fasting food across Gujarat, the Hindi belt and Maharashtra. Durga Puja is pandals, food and new clothes in Bengal. One national script fails both.
- In 2027 the men's cricket World Cup starts on 2 October, inside these days. Check match times before locking posting slots.
- Use creators who live the festival, and do not treat the goddess, idols or pandals as props.
Treat Navratri and Durga Puja as two campaigns that share a calendar. Navratri is nine nights of garba and fasting across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi NCR, Maharashtra and the Hindi belt; Durga Puja is about five days of pandals, food and new clothes centred on West Bengal. They need different creators, languages, products and approvals. This post is the festival slice of our guide to influencer marketing in India; for city detail see our Ahmedabad and Kolkata pages, which this post does not repeat.
Dates for 2026 and 2027
| 2026 | 2027 | |
|---|---|---|
| Sharad Navratri, New Delhi | Sun 11 to Tue 20 Oct | Thu 30 Sep to Sat 9 Oct |
| Dussehra | Tue 20 Oct | Sat 9 Oct |
| Durga Puja, Kolkata (Shashthi to Dashami) | About 16 to 21 Oct | About 5 to 10 Oct |
| Karwa Chauth | Thu 29 Oct | Mon 18 Oct |
| Diwali | Sun 8 Nov | Fri 29 Oct |
Dates come from Drik Panchang for New Delhi and for Kolkata. Bengal's calendar lists some days twice because tithis straddle midnight, so Dashami falls on 9 or 10 October in 2027. Confirm with your Kolkata creators.
Two timing facts matter for 2027. Dussehra to Diwali is only 20 days, so the festive run is compressed. And the men's cricket World Cup begins on 2 October, inside Navratri and Puja, according to the ICC. The festival calendar for influencers shows the pile-up, and our cricket season post covers the sport side.
Two festivals, two audiences
| Navratri | Durga Puja | |
|---|---|---|
| Strongest in | Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi NCR, Maharashtra, Hindi belt | West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Tripura, Bengali communities in other cities |
| Online behaviour | Daily outfits, jewellery, makeup, garba classes, fasting recipes | Pandal hopping, food trails, new clothes, family and adda |
| Food | Fasting food (sabudana, kuttu, makhana, sendha namak); many avoid onion, garlic and meat | Fish, mutton, biryani, sweets and bhog; non-vegetarian food is normal |
| Languages | Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Rajasthani | Bengali, plus Odia and Assamese nearby |
| Categories | Ethnic wear, jewellery, beauty, footwear, fasting food, rides | Fashion, food, appliances, travel, cabs, gifting |
| UNESCO listing | Garba of Gujarat, 2023 | Durga Puja in Kolkata, 2021 |
The food row is where campaigns go wrong. A fasting-food brief to a Bengali creator, or a fish-and-biryani idea to a North Indian Navratri audience, shows the brand has not looked.
Twelve campaign ideas

| 3 | Garba makeup that lasts nine hours, tested on camera | Makeup creators | Process Reel | West |
| 4 | Fasting recipes in 15 minutes | Food creators in Hindi and Gujarati | Recipe Reel | North and west |
| 5 | Garba class diaries before the first night | Dance creators | Tutorial Reel | Gujarat |
| 6 | The street-food stop after the last round | Food creators | Reel, Stories | West |
| 7 | Dussehra delivery day: vehicles and appliances handed over | Auto and home creators | Reel | North and west |
| 8 | Pandal-hopping trail with a food stop | Bengali food and travel creators | Reel, Stories | Bengal |
| 9 | Five days, five Puja outfits | Bengali fashion creators | Lookbook Reel | Bengal |
| 10 | Bhog and the family kitchen | Family creators | Recipe Reel | Bengal |
| 11 | Sindoor khela and dhunuchi portraits | Photography creators | Photo series | Bengal |
| 12 | Bijoya gifts and the Diwali handoff | Gifting creators | Reel, carousel | Bengal, east |
Operating notes. Idea 1 needs the colour for each day checked by someone who follows the same calendar as the audience, since days and colours can differ by region. Ideas 3 and 6 work because the claim is testable: sweat, heat, midnight. Idea 8 depends on permission and timing, since pandals are crowded from Shashthi to Dashami and creators often shoot at dawn or late at night. Idea 11 is a portrait of ritual, so the brand should be a quiet partner, not a logo in the frame. Idea 7 fits brands whose product is delivered, because Dussehra is a traditional day to take delivery.
Beyond Ahmedabad and Kolkata
Garba is not only a Gujarat-capital story: Surat has its own scene, and Gujarati families in other cities bring it with them. In Delhi, the Ramlila grounds and Dussehra effigies matter as much as garba, and Chittaranjan Park runs its own Bengali Durga Puja; see Delhi. A second, quieter Navratri begins on 7 April 2027, alongside Ugadi and Gudi Padwa, and it suits fasting-food brands that want a lower-cost test before the autumn peak.
When to brief, book and post, for 2027
| When | Weeks before Navratri | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Late June | 14 | Brief; choose cities and languages |
| Mid-July | 11 | Creators booked; contracts fix a delivery date per phase |
| Early September | 4 | Products and outfits shipped; Ganesh Chaturthi on 4 Sep and Onam on 11 to 14 Sep compete for creators |
| 14 to 28 Sep | 2 | Outfit-hunt and shopping wave; drafts approved by 28 Sep |
| 30 Sep to 9 Oct | 0 | Nightly or daily content; the World Cup starts on 2 Oct |
| 10 to 26 Oct | after | Karwa Chauth on 18 Oct; Bijoya and Diwali assets go live |
Prepare Bijoya, Kali Puja and Diwali assets before Navratri starts. The gap to Diwali is too short to shoot them afterwards.
Budget notes
Use our influencer rates guide: a nano Reel about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000, a micro Reel ₹8,000 to ₹80,000, a micro Story set ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 and a mid-tier Reel ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh. Add about 35 percent for usage rights, our planning figure. A nine-night series should be priced as a bundle: published rate cards put a Reel, post and Stories bundle at 1.6 to 2 times a single Reel, and another guide says bundling usually earns a 20 to 35 percent discount.
Regional creators are often better value. A 2026 vendor survey covered by Campaign India reports cheaper campaigns and higher engagement in tier 3 and 4 cities than in metros, though these are vendor estimates, and one guide says regional-language YouTube channels cost 40 to 60 percent less than Hindi or English ones. Management fees run about 15 to 25 percent of creator spend in published benchmarks. Test mixes in the cost calculator.
What to measure across the nine nights
Give each language its own code so you can compare Gujarati, Hindi and Bengali results. Track daily post performance to see which looks or recipes landed, orders in the 30 days after, own-site traffic during the festival and what share of Diwali buyers first met you through a festival creator. A series is easier to judge than single posts, so set the benchmark before day one. See how to measure influencer marketing ROI.
Cultural sensitivities
- The goddess is not a prop. Do not use Durga or idol imagery in sale banners, comedy, sexualised content or disposable packaging, and keep footwear and branding out of sacred space.
- Pandals and idols belong to committees. Ask, agree timings and respect crowd limits. Do not climb, touch or move anything.
- Respect the fast. Content for fasting audiences should not show onion, garlic, meat or alcohol, and fasting claims such as "healthy" or "energising" must be provable.
- Do not impose that on Bengal. Non-vegetarian food is part of Durga Puja, and vegetarian-only framing reads as foreign.
- Garba entry is a flashpoint. Entry rules at some venues have caused public disputes. Do not build content around who is let in or out.
- Safety at night. Do not glamorise unsafe commutes or late-night drinking, and brief creators on crowds and exits.
- Immersion and the environment. Eco claims about idols or colours need evidence; avoid shaming communities.
- Language review. Have a native speaker check Gujarati and Bengali scripts, spellings and idioms.
Disclosure and rules
ASCI requires a label whenever money, free products, gifts or sponsorship connect a creator to a brand. A Story needs it on the visual, a Reel of 15 seconds or less needs it on screen for at least 3 seconds, and a live stream from an event must announce it at the start and end. Permitted labels include Ad, Collaboration, Partnership and Free gift. Organiser permission to film does not replace a disclosure. The brand shares responsibility and must be able to back claims such as "sweat-proof". Read the ASCI influencer guidelines explained. This is general information, not legal advice.

Frequently asked questions
When are Navratri and Durga Puja in 2027?
For New Delhi, Sharad Navratri starts on Thursday 30 September 2027 and Dussehra is on Saturday 9 October. Durga Puja in Kolkata runs from Shashthi on about 5 October to Dashami on 9 or 10 October, depending on the calendar. In 2026 Navratri ran from 11 to 20 October and Durga Puja from about 16 to 21 October.
How do Navratri and Durga Puja campaigns differ for brands?
Navratri centres on nine nights of garba, outfits, jewellery, makeup and fasting food, strongest in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi NCR and Maharashtra. Durga Puja centres on five days of pandal hopping, food, new clothes and family in West Bengal and Bengali communities elsewhere. Language, food rules and creators all differ. See our Ahmedabad and Kolkata pages.
How early should brands plan Navratri and Durga Puja influencer campaigns?
Brief in late June and book creators by mid-July. Outfit-hunt content starts four to six weeks before the first night, and creators with festival slots fill their calendars early. Ship products by early September, since courier turnarounds slow around festival days, and finish approvals before the festival begins.
Can creators film at garba grounds and Durga Puja pandals?
Usually, with permission. Ticketed garba events and pandal committees decide who can film and where, and branding inside a venue normally needs a sponsorship arrangement. Pandals are very crowded from Shashthi to Dashami, so creators often shoot early morning or late at night. Confirm access before you lock a shoot.
How much do Navratri and Durga Puja influencer campaigns cost?
Creator fees follow published ranges: about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 for a nano Reel, ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 for a micro Reel and ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh for a mid-tier Reel. A vendor survey puts campaigns in tier 3 and 4 cities cheaper than metros. See influencer rates in India.
Do disclosure rules apply to creator content from festival events?
Yes. If a brand pays, gifts or sponsors the creator, the content needs a label such as Ad, Collaboration or Partnership, upfront and on the visual for a Story. A live stream from an event must announce the disclosure at the start and end. Event organiser permission is not a disclosure. See the ASCI guide.
