In short
- One agency guide puts regional-language YouTube channels 40 to 60 percent below Hindi or English. It is a single low-confidence source, and we found no Instagram equivalent.
- A discount only pays if views hold up. A 50 percent cheaper channel must average at least half the Hindi channel's views to match its cost per 1,000 views.
- Pool size, niche, translation work and where followers actually live move a regional quote more than language does. No source publishes a rate card per language.
- A creator survey reported metro campaigns at ₹3.8 to ₹4.5 lakh against ₹35,000 to ₹90,000 in tier 3 and 4 cities, but does not say what a campaign contains.
Regional-language creators do not have a rate card of their own. They are priced on the same follower-tier bands as Hindi and English creators, and the only published discount we found is for YouTube: one agency guide puts regional-language channels 40 to 60 percent below Hindi or English ones. What decides whether that is a bargain is what the channel delivers per rupee, not the language it speaks.
Our influencer rates guide covers the tier bands and gives language a short section. This post goes one level deeper: what the evidence supports, a break-even test for any "cheaper" quote, the factors besides language that move the price, and a way to run a fair test. For the wider picture, start with our complete guide to influencer marketing in India. For the earlier question of whether to go regional at all, read regional vs national influencer campaigns.
What is published, and what is not
Almost everything people repeat about regional pricing rests on one line from one guide. This table separates the claims by how far you can lean on them.
| Claim | Where it comes from | Confidence | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regional-language YouTube channels cost 40 to 60 percent less than Hindi or English | One agency's 2026 pricing guide | Low | A negotiating reference, not a rule |
| A matching discount on Instagram | None found | None | Use the tier band, assume no discount |
| More than 62 percent of surveyed creators get more regional-language briefs | An influencer platform's 2026 survey, covered by trade press | Medium (vendor estimate) | Shows demand is rising, says nothing about price |
| Tier 3 and 4 campaigns at ₹35,000 to ₹90,000 against ₹3.8 to ₹4.5 lakh in metros | Same survey | Medium, but "campaign" is undefined | Not a per-post price |
| A price list by language (Tamil against Telugu, and so on) | None found | None | Treat any such list as a guess |
| Rates for creators on Moj, ShareChat or Josh | None reliable | None | We publish none |
The survey that Campaign India covered also reported engagement of 4.5 to 5.5 percent in tier 3 and 4 cities against 3 to 4 percent in metros. That is a reason to test smaller-city audiences, since they may engage more per follower. It is not a rate. A lower cost per campaign could simply mean a smaller campaign.
So language is a proxy. It stands in for pool size, audience reach and bargaining position, and the quote follows those.
The break-even test for a "cheaper" regional quote
Cost per 1,000 views is the fee divided by average views in thousands. A regional channel that is X percent cheaper only matches the Hindi channel's cost per view if its average views are at least (100 minus X) percent of the Hindi channel's. A 50 percent discount needs half the views. A 40 percent discount needs 60 percent of them.
Here is the arithmetic for a Hindi dedicated video at ₹80,000 that averages 32,000 views, which is ₹2,500 per 1,000 views. The figures are assumptions for illustration.
| Discount | Regional fee | Views needed to match ₹2,500 per 1,000 | Cost per 1,000 views if the channel averages 10,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 40% | ₹48,000 | 19,200 | ₹4,800 |
| 50% | ₹40,000 | 16,000 | ₹4,000 |
| 60% | ₹32,000 | 12,800 | ₹3,200 |
At 10,000 average views, even the 60 percent discount is 28 percent dearer per view than the Hindi channel. This is why the first question to any regional creator is the same as for any other: "What did your last 10 to 15 videos average?"
Two cautions. First, cost per view is a floor test for awareness, not a verdict. If a regional audience is your actual buyer, a channel at ₹4,000 per 1,000 views can beat one at ₹2,500 whose viewers will never buy. Second, no published source compares conversion by language, and the one vendor that says vernacular beats English on trust and conversion publishes no figures. Decide with a test, not with a claim.
What moves a regional quote besides language
| Factor | Which way it pushes | What to ask or do |
|---|---|---|
| Audience pool | A smaller language pool means fewer viewers per video and fewer creators to compare, so a first quote often stands unchallenged (our reading) | Get three quotes per language, even if you book one |
| Niche | Niche premiums apply in every language: published guides put finance at 1.5x to 2x a beauty baseline | See influencer fees by niche |
| Credentials | Regional finance and health creators still need stated qualifications for technical advice under ASCI's Addendum II, and the pool can be very thin | Ask for proof before negotiating the fee |
| Audience location | A Tamil-speaking creator in Bengaluru may have most followers in Chennai, or in Mumbai | Read the city and country split in Insights, not the creator's address |
| Translation and scripts | Brand scripts add ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 for some mid-tier creators in one guide, and you may need native review on top | Budget a reviewer who reads the language |
| Paperwork | Only 15.2 percent of surveyed creators are registered as a business or GST individual, so most invoices carry no GST | Collect PAN and bank details early, in the creator's language |
The niche and credential rows are where regional pricing surprises brands. A regional-language finance creator carries the finance premium and the credential check, and there may be only a handful of them. Our fintech and BFSI page covers who can say what.
How to price a regional creator in five steps
- Start from the tier band for the format you are buying: ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 for a micro Reel, ₹20,000 to ₹1.2 lakh for a micro YouTube dedicated video. The YouTube rates post and Instagram rates post show each band.
- Ask for evidence. Average views on the last 10 to 15 posts, 90-day Insights or YouTube Studio screenshots, and the audience split by city and language of comments.
- Run the break-even test against the Hindi or English creator you would otherwise buy.
- Add only the extras you will use: usage rights, exclusivity, and creator ads targeted by state or language. The whitelisting cost post shows how that last line is priced.
- Test before you scale. Six to ten creators per language, the same brief, the same deliverable. Compare cost per 1,000 views and cost per result.
On Instagram, do not open with "we heard regional is 40 to 60 percent cheaper". There is no published basis for it, and a creator who knows their numbers will hear it as a lowball. Open with their views and your price per view.
Worked example: a three-language test
| Cohort | Fee per Reel | Average views (assumed) | Cost per 1,000 views | Fee that would match the Hindi cohort |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hindi | ₹20,000 | 20,000 | ₹1,000 | n/a |
| Language X | ₹20,000 | 14,000 | ₹1,429 | ₹14,000 |
| Language Y | ₹20,000 | 9,000 | ₹2,222 | ₹9,000 |
The counter-offer writes itself. To the language Y creators: "Your last 10 Reels averaged about 9,000 views, so we would start at ₹9,000 to ₹12,000 for one organic Reel." If language Y is where your sales are, pay more than the matching fee and say why in the plan. The point is that the premium is a decision, not an accident.
The total for the test is 18 Reels at ₹20,000, or ₹3,60,000 before usage rights, management fee and GST. Run it again after the first wave. If one language beats the others on cost per result, put the next budget there, and consider running its best posts as creator ads aimed at that language and state.
Brief and contract lines that change with language
- Language of voiceover, captions and on-screen text. Name each. A Hindi script translated into a regional language by a team that does not speak it reads as a translation, and viewers notice.
- Native review. Name who reads each script and draft in the language, and give them a short turnaround. This is usually the slowest step in a regional plan.
- The disclosure label. ASCI allows it in English or in the language of the ad, as long as an average consumer understands it, and it must be upfront and prominent (ASCI). Use the viewer's language.
- Dubbing. Do not buy one video and dub it with AI into four languages without separate written consent from the creator. Face and voice are a separate right, as our usage rights post explains.
- Part-payment in product. Smaller creators in any language sometimes accept product alongside a fee. Value it before you offer it; see how to value a barter collaboration.
- Payment and paperwork. Many individual creators issue no GST invoice, and the TDS position depends on the payment type. See TDS 194R and GST on influencer payments.
Mistakes we would steer you away from
- Applying the YouTube figure to Instagram because both are "regional".
- Comparing fee to fee instead of price per view.
- Judging a language on one creator. A single weak creator is a data point, not a market.
- Pricing "regional" as one block. Hindi, Tamil, Marathi and the rest are separate audiences with separate creator pools.
- Forgetting the review cost. Fees can be lower while the plan costs more, once you add translation, more contracts and more shipments.
- Buying reach where your product is not sold. Check that the product ships to the audience's pin codes before you pay for their attention.
Our creator plan includes named creators with their quotes, so you can run the break-even test before you commit. See our page on regional language influencer marketing, compare tiers in the influencer cost calculator, or send us a brief and we will return named creators with quotes in 48 hours.

Frequently asked questions
Are regional language influencers cheaper in India?
Sometimes. One published guide puts regional-language YouTube channels 40 to 60 percent below Hindi or English channels, but it is a single low-confidence source. We found no published Instagram discount. Regional creators sit on the same follower-tier bands, so judge each quote by average views, not by language. See the influencer rates guide.
How much cheaper are regional-language YouTube channels?
The only figure we found is 40 to 60 percent below Hindi or English channels, from one agency's 2026 pricing guide. Use it as a negotiating reference, not a rule. A 50 percent cheaper fee only wins if the channel averages at least half the views of the Hindi channel you would otherwise buy. Check our YouTube rates post.
Do regional Instagram creators charge less than Hindi creators?
No published source says so. Instagram Reel rates are quoted by follower tier and niche, not by language, so a regional micro creator with 50,000 followers is usually quoted inside the same ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 band. Any lower price comes from smaller average views or a weaker negotiating position, not from a language discount. See Instagram influencer rates.
Why can a cheaper regional creator cost more per view?
Because a lower fee often comes with a smaller audience. If a channel charges half the Hindi fee but averages 40 percent of its views, cost per 1,000 views is higher. Divide the fee by average views over the last 10 to 15 posts before comparing. Language fit may still justify the premium if the viewers are your buyers.
Which regional language costs the most?
We found no published rate card by language, so we cannot rank them. Price depends on niche, audience size, engagement and usage rights more than on the language itself. Any source that gives you a clean per-language price list is guessing. Get three quotes in the language you want and compare cost per 1,000 views.
How should I budget for a regional influencer campaign?
Start from the tier band for each format, add only the usage rights and exclusivity you will use, then add translation, script review and a larger tracker. Run 6 to 10 creators per language as a test before scaling. Our regional influencer marketing service builds multi-language plans.
Does the ASCI disclosure label have to be in English?
No. ASCI allows the label in English or in the language of the ad, provided an average consumer finds it easy to understand. It must be upfront and prominent. For a regional-language video, a label in the viewer's language is usually the clearer choice. See our ASCI influencer guidelines explainer.
