In short
- Decor and furniture sell on proof in a real room. Cast home-tour, makeover, renter-friendly and regional creators, and put sizes, prices and delivery dates on screen.
- Big items change the economics. A kept sofa or table can pass the ₹20,000 TDS threshold alone, so decide loan or keep before anything ships.
- Plan by price band. Low-ticket decor sells in volume through codes and hauls; furniture is a considered purchase that needs measurements, delivery clarity and often a consultation.
- Give the festive plan an order-by date. A Diwali post is wasted if the sofa arrives after the festival.
Influencer marketing works for home decor and furniture because the purchase needs proof. Buyers want to see a lamp, a sofa or a wall unit in a home that looks like theirs before they spend, and creators supply that in real rooms with real sizes and prices. The plan changes with the price. Low-ticket decor sells in volume through hauls and codes, while furniture is a considered family decision that needs measurements, delivery clarity and often a person on a call. Big items also bring logistics and tax questions that small products avoid.
This post goes one level deeper than our complete guide to influencer marketing in India. For programmes built around acquisition cost and repeat purchase, see our page on influencer marketing for D2C brands. Here we stay with the home category: price bands, creators, big-item handling, rules, budgets and an example Diwali plan.
Why home content sells
A 2025 Goat Agency and Kantar study, covered by Campaign India, found that 69 percent of Indian consumers use influencers for product information, 63 percent for discovery and 60 percent to act. That is an all-category result. For home, the reasons are practical. A catalogue photo is shot in perfect light in a room nobody lives in. A creator shows the same rug beside a real sofa, under a real ceiling fan, with the scale visible. Before-and-after is the native format, and saves, the signal that someone plans to come back, matter more than likes.
A large share of the audience is also in transition: renters setting up, newly married couples, families who have just taken possession of a flat. That is why home creators connect naturally to property: see our post on influencer marketing for real estate for the buyer who has just collected the keys.
Price bands change the plan
These bands are our planning framework, not market data.
| Ticket | Examples | How buyers decide | Creator mix | Offer | Measure |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under ₹2,000 | Wall art, planters, cushion covers, string lights | Impulse, saves, "under ₹X" lists | Many nano and micro creators, hauls | Code or link | Orders per code |
| ₹2,000 to ₹15,000 | Lamps, rugs, storage, bedding, dining accessories | Compare brands, read reviews | Micro makeover and home creators | Free shipping, code | Orders, order value |
| ₹15,000 and above | Sofas, beds, wardrobes, dining sets | Measure the room, ask the family, worry about delivery and assembly | Mid-tier home-tour creators, interior designers, regional creators | Consultation, video call, free measurement visit | Consultations, showroom visits, orders over 60 to 90 days |
A brand that sells the whole range needs three plans, not one. Putting a ₹60,000 sofa into a nano haul wastes the product, and asking a mid-tier home-tour creator to sell a ₹500 planter wastes the fee.
Creators and formats that work
| Creator type | Content | Best for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home-tour creators | Apartment and house tours with sourced pieces | Mid and high-ticket | The product must truly be in the room |
| Makeover and DIY creators | Before-and-after changes on a budget | Low and mid ticket | Budget claims must be accurate |
| Renter-friendly and small-space creators | Storage, foldable, no-drill decor | Young renters in metros | Do not overstate what is damage-free |
| Interior designers and architects | How to choose, layouts, material advice | High-ticket | Their own commercial interest: label the post |
| Festive decor creators | Lights, torans, puja corners, rangoli | Seasonal sales | Narrow windows; book early |
| Regional-language creators | Home content in local languages | Tier 2 and 3 delivery cities | Delivery must reach their audience |
| Kids' room and nursery creators | Room set-ups | Children's furniture | Safety claims need proof; see parenting and baby |
| UGC creators | Product-in-room video for your own ads | Any | Rights: see our UGC service |
Formats that sell: a room-reveal Reel with the price list on screen; "one room, three budgets"; a measurement-first video that shows the dimensions before the styling; a delivery-and-assembly diary; and a "60 days later" review, which answers the doubt every furniture buyer has. Regional-language creators are worth testing wherever you deliver, since local-language home content is thin.
Big items: loan, keep, ship and the TDS line
Small products are simple. A ₹40,000 sofa is not.
| Arrangement | Cost to you | Tax note | Practical step |
|---|---|---|---|
| Creator keeps the item (gift or barter) | Product at cost plus freight | A benefit, valued at fair market value: your purchase price, or your selling price if you make it. 10% TDS under 194R once the total to that creator passes ₹20,000 in the year; one sofa can do that | Decide before shipping and collect the declaration the summary advises |
| Loan for about 30 days, then pick-up | Freight both ways plus pick-up | A product sent for a shoot and returned does not attract 194R, as summarised from the CBDT circular | Contract with return date, condition, damage clause and photos at delivery and pick-up |
| Creator buys with a discount code | The margin you give up | The discount is a benefit and needs disclosure | Label the post |
| Styling day in your store | Time, plus any travel or stay you provide | Travel or stay can be a benefit too | Record values |
Individuals and HUFs below the turnover thresholds are exempt from deducting; companies, LLPs and firms are not. Keep a per-creator ledger across the financial year. Our TDS and GST guide explains where the rules are unsettled, and our gifting and seeding service runs loan programmes. For small gifted items, our barter collaboration guide has the value-for-content test.
Logistics breaks more campaigns than tax. Before you agree a delivery date:
- Check your courier's pin-code coverage for the creator's address.
- Ask about the floor, lift access, gate rules and parking, since a delivery team cannot carry a wardrobe up four flights without notice.
- Book the assembly appointment with the delivery, so the creator can film it.
- Keep a replacement ready, because damaged-on-arrival is common with large and glass items, and a creator will film that too.
- Count deadlines from the delivery date, not the dispatch date.
Rules to brief against
- Label every post. ASCI requires a clear label, such as Free gift, Collaboration or Ad, for a gifted, loaned or discounted product, upfront and prominent. See our ASCI explainer.
- Substantiate material claims. ASCI holds the advertiser answerable for what a post says, and expects creators to satisfy themselves that the advertiser can back its claims. Terms such as solid wood, teak, waterproof, termite-proof, fire-retardant, non-toxic paint and lifetime warranty need a spec sheet. If your range mixes solid and engineered wood, the sheet should say which is which.
- Keep prices honest. Strike-through prices, "up to 50% off" and free-delivery offers need to match what a buyer actually gets, with an end date.
- Honest opinions. The Department of Consumer Affairs' guidance tells endorsers not to promote what they have not used. Let creators live with the piece for a fortnight before they speak.

What it costs
These are asking prices from the benchmarks behind our influencer rates guide.
| Tier | Instagram Reel | Story set | Static post | Role |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nano (1K to 10K) | ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 | ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 | ₹1,000 to ₹8,000 | Hauls with codes |
| Micro (10K to 100K) | ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 | ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 | ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 | Makeovers, renter content |
| Mid-tier (100K to 500K) | ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh | ₹20,000 to ₹80,000 | ₹30,000 to ₹2 lakh | Home tours, anchors |
| Macro (500K to 1M) | ₹2 lakh to ₹8 lakh | ₹50,000 to ₹2.5 lakh | ₹1.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh | Rarely needed |
Usage rights add about 30 to 50 percent, and 30-day exclusivity against competing furniture brands about the same. Whitelisting adds 60 to 120 percent over an organic post in one published guide, with the media spend separate; see creator ads and whitelisting. One booking platform says buying a Reel and Stories together usually earns a 20 to 35 percent discount. A lifestyle niche carries no published premium. Budget freight and the product separately, and model the mix in the influencer cost calculator.
Measuring it
| Metric | How to capture it | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Orders and revenue by code | Unique code per creator | Best for decor |
| Order value | Order data | Furniture buyers add pieces once the first lands |
| Cost per order | Fees, rights and freight, divided by orders | Compare across creators |
| Add-to-carts from creator links | Tagged links | Shows interest that did not convert |
| Consultations and showroom visits | Tagged booking link or showroom code | For furniture |
| Saves on room reveals | Platform insights | Interest before purchase |
| Delivery issues per shipment | Support log | A creator-shipment problem is also a content problem |
We know of no published India benchmark for orders per creator in home, so run a first wave and set your own baseline. Review decor at 30 days and furniture at 60 to 90. Our ROI measurement guide describes the method.
Mistakes we would steer you away from
- Shipping without checking access. Lift, floor and gate rules decide whether the delivery happens.
- A kept sofa that slips past ₹20,000. Log it in the ledger before you send it.
- Claims with no spec sheet. Solid wood, waterproof and termite-proof need proof.
- Only beautiful rooms. Show sizes, prices and the room as it is lived in.
- Twenty identical room reveals. Indian homes differ by city, size and style. Brief different rooms.
- Followers outside your delivery map. Check audience cities against where you deliver.
- A festive post with no order-by date. Late delivery turns a good post into a complaint.
- No ad rights. Get them in the contract: see our influencer contract guide.
Wedding season also drives gifting and decor, so it helps to look at how the neighbouring category plans in our post on influencer marketing for jewellery brands. Every creator we propose is scored on the Gully Score. To get a plan with a shortlist, content plan and cost estimate for your next sale or festive window, send us a brief.

Frequently asked questions
Does influencer marketing work for home decor and furniture brands?
Yes, because the purchase needs proof. Creators show a lamp, rug or sofa in a real home with real sizes and prices. Low-ticket decor sells through hauls and codes; furniture is a longer, family decision. Judge it on orders by code for decor and consultations, showroom visits and orders over 60 to 90 days for furniture. See our guide to influencer marketing.
Which influencers are best for home decor brands?
Home-tour creators, makeover and DIY creators, renter-friendly and small-space creators, interior designers, festive-decor creators and regional-language creators in cities you deliver to. Choose by the room and budget your buyer lives with, not by follower count. Our micro-influencer marketing service builds a bench of home creators.
Should we send furniture to influencers to keep or on loan?
On loan for anything above a few thousand rupees, unless the gift is part of the fee. A product the creator keeps is a benefit: 10 percent TDS under section 194R applies once benefits to one person pass ₹20,000 in a financial year, and one sofa can do that. A returned loan does not attract it. This is general information, not tax advice.
How much do home decor influencers charge in India?
Nano creators quote about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 per Reel, micro creators ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 and mid-tier creators ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh. Usage rights and exclusivity each add about 30 to 50 percent. Add freight and the product itself. See influencer rates in India.
How do we track sales from a home decor influencer?
Give each creator a code and a tagged link, then compare orders, order value and cost per order by creator. For furniture, add a consultation booking link and a showroom visit code, and review at 30 and 60 days. Our ROI measurement guide explains the method.
Do home decor creators need to disclose free products?
Yes. ASCI requires a clear label, such as Free gift, Collaboration or Ad, for free or discounted products, even a loan, whenever the creator posts. It goes upfront and prominently, not buried in hashtags. Product claims such as solid wood or waterproof stay the advertiser's responsibility. See our ASCI explainer.
