In short
- Creators help jewellery brands by putting a piece on a real person with a real price. Plan around weddings, Akshaya Tritiya, Dhanteras and gifting dates.
- Store-led retailers, online fine jewellery and fashion or silver brands need three different plans. Casting, offer and measurement change with the ticket size and where the sale happens.
- Gold carries rules. BIS hallmarking applies in notified districts, so brief creators on accurate purity wording, and remember a loaned piece stays outside TDS only if it comes back.
- Book bridal and styling creators four to six weeks before a peak, and give counter staff a way to log every visit a creator sends.
Influencer marketing works for jewellery when creators do what a showroom salesperson cannot: put the piece on a real person, in real light, with a real price, and say honestly whether it is worth it. The category sells on trust and on occasions, so the plan should follow weddings, festivals and gifting dates, with different creators at different price points. Gold adds a regulatory layer, hallmarking, and high-value pieces add logistics and tax questions that a lipstick campaign never raises.
This post goes one level deeper than our complete guide to influencer marketing in India. For the wider approach to style categories, see our fashion and apparel page, and for the platform most jewellery campaigns run on, our Instagram influencer marketing service. Below: three business models, the creators to cast, the calendar, the rules for gold, budgets and an example plan.
Three kinds of jewellery business, three plans
The ticket size and the place where the sale happens change everything. This framework comes from how we plan such campaigns, not from published data.
| Model | How the buyer decides | Where the sale happens | Creator mix | What to measure |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Store-led gold and diamond retailer | Family decision over weeks, often around a wedding | The showroom | Local bridal, regional-language and styling creators; store-visit vlogs | Showroom visits, appointments, catalogue enquiries |
| Online fine jewellery | One buyer, a considered purchase, comparison with other brands | Website or app | Styling, gifting and "what this budget buys" creators | Orders by code, order value, returns |
| Fashion, oxidised and silver jewellery | Impulse or gifting, low ticket | Website, marketplace | Many nano and micro creators, try-on hauls | Orders by code, cost per order |
A regional chain that plans like an online brand will buy reach in cities with no showroom. An online brand that plans like a chain will pay for store content it cannot convert.
Creators and formats that work
| Creator type | Content | Best for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bridal and wedding creators | Trousseau shopping, real-bride diaries, showroom visits | Store-led retailers | Wedding-season calendars fill early |
| Fashion and styling creators | Outfit-to-jewellery pairing, festive lookbooks | All three models | Check the audience matches your price point |
| Regional-language and community creators | Bridal jewellery in their own tradition and language | Regional chains | Ask the creator about local customs, and brief against stereotypes |
| Gifting and couples creators | Anniversary, Valentine's and Raksha Bandhan picks | Online and silver | Gifting content peaks in short windows |
| Buying-guide explainers | Hallmark, making charges, how to compare quotes | Trust building for any gold seller | Keep to buying advice, not gold-as-investment returns |
| Men's and everyday-wear creators | Chains, rings, lightweight office pieces | Newer segments | Smaller supply; book early |
Formats that earn visits: a try-on Reel with the weight and price shown on screen; a "what ₹50,000 buys" video across three pieces; a showroom tour Reel with a named staff member; a get-ready-with-me for a wedding. For regional chains, regional-language creators often outperform a national name, because the audience can reach the showroom.
The calendar
Dates move each year with the panchang and the holiday list, so plan from the current calendar.
| Moment | Typical timing | Creator play |
|---|---|---|
| Wedding season | Roughly November to February, with regional pockets | Trousseau diaries, bridal showroom visits |
| Akshaya Tritiya | April or May | Buying-guide content, "first gold purchase" stories |
| Dhanteras and Diwali | October or November | Festive lookbooks, gifting, store-visit Reels |
| Raksha Bandhan | August | Silver and light-gold gifting |
| Karwa Chauth | October or November | Couples and gifting content |
| Valentine's Day and anniversaries | February onwards | Gifting picks from online brands |
One 2025 survey press release says Diwali is the peak influencer season and that most brands plan two weeks to a month ahead; it is a paid release, so low confidence. For jewellery we plan four to six weeks ahead, because bridal and styling creators book up early and loaned pieces need time to travel.
Rules and logistics specific to jewellery
Hallmarking
The Bureau of Indian Standards' brief on the hallmarking scheme, updated on 1 October 2026, says mandatory hallmarking of gold jewellery began on 23 June 2021 in 256 districts and now covers 392, as of the amendment dated 3 August 2026. A hallmarked piece carries the BIS standard mark, the purity grade and a six-digit alphanumeric HUID, which a buyer can check with the Verify HUID feature of the BIS Care app. The scheme covers seven grades:
| Caratage | Minimum fineness (parts per thousand) |
|---|---|
| 9K | 375 |
| 14K | 585 |
| 18K | 750 |
| 20K | 833 |
| 22K | 916 |
| 23K | 958 |
| 24KS | 995 |
The brief lists exemptions, including pieces under 2 grams and Kundan, Polki and Jadau articles, which must be read against the latest notified order. For marketing, three practical rules follow. Brief creators to state purity exactly as hallmarked, so a 22K piece is never called pure gold. Ask them to show the hallmark in a close-up frame in at least one asset. And have your counsel confirm how the rules apply to your districts and product range before you write the claims sheet.
Loan, keep or buy
| Arrangement | Who owns the piece after | Tax note | Practical step |
|---|---|---|---|
| Loan for a shoot, returned | You | A product sent for a shoot and returned does not attract 194R, as summarised from the CBDT circular | Record weight and photos at dispatch and return, insure it, use a signed handover |
| Gifted piece the creator keeps | The creator | A benefit, valued at fair market value; 10% TDS once total benefits to that person pass ₹20,000 in the year | Count it in a per-creator ledger before you send it |
| Barter: piece for content | The creator | Treated like a kept benefit; GST on barter is unsettled | Put the value and the keep decision in the contract |
| Creator buys at a discount | The creator | The discount is a benefit | Disclosure still applies |
Individuals and HUFs below the turnover thresholds are exempt from deducting; companies, LLPs and firms are not. A single necklace can pass the ₹20,000 line, so the keep-or-return decision is a tax decision. See our TDS and GST guide for confidence levels, and our gifting and seeding service for how we run loan programmes.
Disclosure and claims
ASCI requires a clear label such as Ad, Sponsored, Collaboration or Free gift whenever a creator has a material connection with you, including a gifted or discounted piece. The label goes upfront and prominently. ASCI also holds the advertiser answerable for the claims in a post, so making-charge offers, "today's gold rate" mentions and any "certified" claim must be accurate on the day the post runs. Keep gold-as-investment talk out of briefs; promising returns is a misleading-claims risk and, for creators giving financial advice, a credentials question. See our ASCI explainer.

What it costs
These are asking prices from the benchmarks behind our influencer rates guide.
| Tier | Instagram Reel | Story set | Role in a jewellery plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nano (1K to 10K) | ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 | ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 | In-store Stories, local visits |
| Micro (10K to 100K) | ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 | ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 | Showroom visits, try-ons, the core |
| Mid-tier (100K to 500K) | ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh | ₹20,000 to ₹80,000 | Regional bridal and styling anchors |
| Macro (500K to 1M) | ₹2 lakh to ₹8 lakh | ₹50,000 to ₹2.5 lakh | Only for national online brands |
Add about 30 to 50 percent for ad rights and about the same for 30-day exclusivity against competing jewellers in the city. One booking platform's note calls lifestyle categories commoditised, with no published niche premium, so we price from the base rate card. Budget separately for insurance, courier and the pieces themselves. The influencer cost calculator models a mix.
Measuring a high-ticket sale
| Metric | How to capture it | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Counter code or phrase | Staff log "show this Reel" with the creator's name | Needs staff training before launch |
| Appointments booked | Creator-tagged booking link for bridal consultations | The best signal for store-led sales |
| Catalogue enquiries | Creator-tagged WhatsApp number | Quick to set up |
| Orders by code | Unique code per creator, online | Best for online and fashion jewellery |
| Saves and shares | Platform insights | Interest before purchase |
| Comment questions | Read them: price, weight, store location | Shows buyer intent |
Bridal purchases are planned months ahead, so review at 30, 60 and 90 days. We know of no published India benchmark for showroom visits per creator, so set your own baseline in a first wave. Our guide to measuring influencer marketing ROI covers the method.
Mistakes we would steer you away from
- Loose purity wording. Creators say "pure gold" casually. The claims sheet should say otherwise.
- High-value pieces by ordinary courier. Insure them, record weight and photos, and get a signed handover.
- Ignoring the ₹20,000 line. A kept necklace is a benefit. Keep a ledger per creator.
- A national name for a regional chain. Their followers cannot walk into your showroom.
- Untrained counter staff. If nobody logs the code, the campaign cannot be measured.
- Twenty creators, one look. Brief different angles: bridal, office wear, gifting, budget.
- Late booking. Peak-week creators are gone by the time you decide.
Wedding season also drives travel venues and new homes, so coordinate with them: see our posts on influencer marketing for hotels and resorts and influencer marketing for home decor and furniture. Clauses for loaned pieces and usage rights are in our influencer contract guide, and every creator we propose is scored on the Gully Score first. Frequently asked questions
Does influencer marketing work for jewellery brands in India?
Yes, as a trust and footfall channel. Creators show how a piece looks on a real person, what it costs and what the showroom is like. For store-led jewellers the result is store visits and appointments; for online brands it is orders by code. High-ticket purchases take weeks, so measure over 60 to 90 days. See our fashion and apparel page for the wider approach.
Which influencers are best for jewellery brands?
Bridal and wedding creators, fashion and styling creators, regional-language creators who know local bridal customs, gifting and couples creators, and buying-guide explainers who cover hallmarks and making charges. Cast by where your showroom is, since a large national audience cannot walk into a single store. Our micro-influencer marketing service builds local benches.
Do jewellery influencers have to mention hallmarking?
No rule makes a creator mention it, but any purity claim must be accurate. BIS hallmarking is mandatory for gold jewellery in notified districts, with exemptions such as pieces under 2 grams and Kundan, Polki and Jadau work. Brief creators to describe purity exactly as hallmarked, and have counsel check which rules apply to your range.
Is jewellery given to an influencer taxable?
A piece the creator keeps is a benefit. Section 194R requires 10 percent TDS once benefits to one person exceed ₹20,000 in a financial year, valued at fair market value, and one necklace can pass that line. A piece sent for a shoot and returned does not attract it. See TDS and GST on influencer payments. This is general information, not tax advice.
How much do jewellery influencers charge in India?
Micro fashion creators (10K to 100K followers) quote about ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 per Reel, and mid-tier creators about ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh. Usage rights for ads and exclusivity against competing jewellers each add about 30 to 50 percent. See the influencer rates guide for the full table.
How do I track store visits from influencers?
Give each creator a phrase or code that customers say at the counter, such as show this Reel, and train staff to log it. Add a creator-tagged appointment link for bridal consultations and a tagged WhatsApp number for catalogue enquiries. Review visits at 30, 60 and 90 days, since jewellery purchases are planned over weeks.
