In short
- Search the questions your buyer types, such as reviews, comparisons and price-band lists, in each language they use. Channels that appear across several searches go on the long list.
- Judge a channel on median views of its last 10 long videos against subscribers, not on subscriber count, and check how far its best video sits above the middle.
- Ask for traffic sources, returning viewers, retention and, for Shorts, engaged views. YouTube changed its view definition on 24 August 2026.
- A channel's size sets its price band, but search-led channels in review and how-to niches keep earning views long after the upload.
To find YouTube creators in India, search the questions your buyer types into YouTube, in the languages they use, and keep the channels that keep appearing. Then check each channel's median views against its subscribers, read its comments and ask for traffic and retention data from the creator's own YouTube Studio. Subscriber count only sets the price band. Views per video, search-driven traffic and a viewer base that matches your buyer decide whether the integration sells anything.
This post goes one level below the YouTube section of our guide to how to find influencers in India, which covers all platforms. Here is the YouTube-specific search: seven routes, the public signals to check before you write to anyone, what to ask for afterwards and a sheet to hold it all. Our YouTube influencer marketing page explains when YouTube beats Instagram, and the complete guide to influencer marketing in India covers the channel as a whole. The supply is deep: Oxford Economics estimates that more than 18,000 Indian channels have crossed 1 million subscribers, as Business Today reported in September 2026. Most useful channels for a brand sit far below that size.
Start from what your buyer types
People watch a YouTube review when they are close to a decision, so your search list should look like their questions. Write 15 to 20 phrases from your buyer brief.
| Pattern | Examples (for a hypothetical air purifier brand) |
|---|---|
| Best of, with a price | "best air purifier under 15000" |
| Comparison | "Brand A vs Brand B air purifier" |
| Is it worth it | "is an air purifier worth it in Delhi" |
| Review after use | "air purifier 6 month review" |
| How-to in Hinglish | "air purifier filter kab badle" |
| Problem phrasing | "bedroom smells damp what to do" |
Use YouTube's own search suggestions to extend the list: type the start of each phrase and note what it completes. Repeat in the regional language and script your buyer uses; how to find regional language creators covers that search in depth. Menu names and filters change between app versions, so treat the steps as the idea, not a button map.
Seven search routes
1. Search, then sort twice
Run each phrase and note the top 15 channels. Then change the sort or filter, where your version offers it, to upload date, and again to view count. A channel that appears at the top across several phrases already owns the topic. Record how many different searches each channel appeared in; three or more is a strong lead.
2. Follow the recommended videos two hops
Open a video you would be happy to sponsor and note the channels in the recommended list. Open one from that list and repeat. The channels you meet usually draw a similar audience, and this finds smaller creators that search does not surface.
3. Mine competitors' sponsored videos
Search your competitors' product names with "review". Watch the first seconds of each result: sponsored videos carry a paid promotion label, and descriptions often carry buy links or codes. Note which channels did them and how the integration was placed. That is public data about who already sells your category. Do the same for adjacent categories your buyer also buys.
4. Check featured channels and playlists
Many creators list other channels they rate in a featured channels section, and many group videos into playlists by topic. A creator who recommends channels is easy to approach for a referral, and the lists show clusters you can map.
5. Read the comments for buyers
Open the comments on category videos and note questions such as "where do I buy this?" or "which is better for a small room?". A channel whose viewers ask purchase questions has an audience in the buying phase. Our guide to reading influencer audience insights shows the same signal from the creator's side.
6. Use creator partnership tools
YouTube has partnership tools for brands and creators. We set out what we could and could not confirm in YouTube brand partnership tools in India. Treat them as one source: only creators who opted in appear.
7. Ask creators for creators
After a good conversation, ask who else covers the same niche or city. Creators know which channels have real audiences, and a referral is the cheapest lead you will get.
What a channel page tells you before you write
Open the Videos tab and the Popular tab, and note the last 20 uploads. Five signals do most of the work.
| Signal | How to read it | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Views per subscriber | Median views of the last 10 long videos ÷ subscribers | Far below similar channels in the niche |
| Gap to the best video | Most-viewed recent video ÷ median | One video many times the median, and the rest flat |
| Upload rhythm | Dates of the last 20 uploads | Long gaps, or a sudden switch of topic |
| Comment quality | Read 30 comments across 5 videos | Generic praise, first-comment spam, replies off topic |
| Sponsored load | Sponsored videos in the last 10 | A sponsor in nearly every video |
For example, a channel with 120,000 subscribers and a median of 30,000 views on its last 10 long videos has 0.25 views per subscriber. Whether that is good depends on the niche, so compare it with other channels in the same niche on your long list. We found no published India benchmark, so build your own from 8 to 10 comparable channels, as in Instagram engagement rate benchmarks.
The monetisation threshold is a floor, not a verdict. YouTube's Partner Program asks for 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 public watch hours in 12 months or 10 million valid public Shorts views in 90 days, and the page announces updates from 1 February 2027. It tells you a creator can earn from the platform. It does not tell you the audience matches your buyer.
What to ask the creator for
Public numbers screen creators. The creator's own YouTube Studio data decides. Ask every creator for the same set, with the date range and channel name visible, and use how to read influencer audience insights to read it.
| Ask for | Why |
|---|---|
| Traffic sources, last 28 days | Search and suggested videos mean durable views; one external source means a spike |
| Returning and new viewers | A base of returning viewers means a loyal audience |
| Audience location and age | Does it match where you sell? |
| Retention graph, last 5 videos | Does the audience stay to the point where your integration would sit? |
| Average view duration | Shows whether the content holds attention |
| Engaged views for Shorts | YouTube has counted views from the start of play since 24 August 2026 |
On that last row: YouTube Help says views are counted the moment a video starts to play, while YouTube's blog says most analytics stay based on engaged views, defined as clicking to watch or watching past the first few seconds. A Short's headline view count therefore includes more casual starts than it used to. Our YouTube Shorts post shows how to buy on that definition.
Which type of channel for which job
| Channel type | Good for | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Reviewer or comparer | Consideration; products with specs and price gaps | Do reviews rank for the searches you use? |
| Explainer or educator | Complex products, finance, education, software | Credentials, where the topic needs them |
| Vlogger or lifestyle | Awareness and trust for everyday products | Does the product fit the story naturally? |
| Niche specialist | A narrow buyer, such as a specific bike or a language-learning niche | Audience size against your target |
| Shorts-first creator | Cheap reach and hook testing | Engaged views, and whether Shorts viewers watch long-form |
Pair the choice with a format. A dedicated video suits a product that needs explaining, and a 60 to 90 second integration suits a product that the creator already uses. Integration versus dedicated video walks through the trade-off.
What a channel costs, and how size sets your search
Subscriber bands set the price tier. These are indicative asking prices per video from our rates guide, with GST and usage rights extra.
| Subscribers | Dedicated video | Integration (60 to 90 seconds) |
|---|---|---|
| Nano, 1K to 10K | ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 | ₹3,000 to ₹12,000 |
| Micro, 10K to 100K | ₹20,000 to ₹1.2 lakh | ₹15,000 to ₹60,000 |
| Mid-tier, 100K to 500K | ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh | ₹60,000 to ₹2.5 lakh |
| Macro, 500K to 1M | ₹3 lakh to ₹15 lakh | ₹2 lakh to ₹6 lakh |
| Mega, 1M+ | ₹8 lakh to ₹50 lakh | ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh |
One published rate guide puts regional-language YouTube channels at 40% to 60% below Hindi or English ones. That is a single low-confidence source, so test it with quotes. Use the influencer cost calculator to size a mix, then decide which tier to search first. Tools that speed up the long list are explained in influencer discovery tools explained. A ₹3 lakh budget buys one macro dedicated video at the bottom of its range, or several micro integrations. Spread across micro channels, the result is less exposed to a single creator's bad week.
A seven-day plan
| Day | Task | Output |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Write 15 to 20 buyer phrases in each language | The search list |
| 2 to 3 | Run routes 1 to 4 | A long list of 30 to 40 channels |
| 4 | Screen on public signals | 15 to 20 remain |
| 5 | Send outreach and the data request | Replies and screenshots |
| 6 | Score on the five Gully Score criteria | A scored sheet; see the influencer shortlist template |
| 7 | Check the top 6 for conflicts and past sponsored videos | The approval list |
In our process, a creator plan with named channels, Gully Scores and costs reaches you within 48 hours of the brief call.
The sheet to keep
Use the columns of the shortlist template and add these for YouTube: channel URL, subscribers, median views of the last 10 long videos, views per subscriber, Shorts median engaged views, search share of traffic, average view duration, sponsored videos in the last 10, language and contact route. Keep the evidence folder with dated screenshots. Our vetting checklist shows how to score each one.
Mistakes in YouTube creator search
- Searching by subscriber count. A large channel in the wrong niche is the costliest mistake.
- Judging by the best video. Use the median.
- Ignoring where views come from. One viral link does not make a durable channel.
- Forgetting the integration point. If viewers have left before it, the views you pay for never see your product.
- Treating Shorts and long-form as one audience. Ask for both.
- Skipping the label. A paid integration needs a clear label, in the video and on screen; see influencer disclosure hashtags in India.
If you would rather receive a scored YouTube shortlist than build one, send us a brief.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find YouTube creators for my brand in India?
Write down the questions your buyer would type, such as 'best sunscreen under ₹500' or 'X vs Y review', and search them in English, Hinglish and the regional language. Sort by view count and by upload date, note channels that appear repeatedly, then check each channel's median views, comments and traffic sources before you contact anyone.
How do I find YouTube influencers by niche or language?
Search the niche's buying questions in the language of your buyer and note which channels dominate the results. Then open a good video and follow the recommended videos for two hops. Channels that sit in the same cluster usually share an audience. For regional campaigns, see how to find regional language creators.
How can I tell whether a YouTube channel's views are real?
Compare median views of the last 10 long videos with subscribers, check whether views come from search and suggested videos rather than one external link, read 30 comments for specific, on-topic replies and look at retention. A channel with rising subscribers and flat views, or views that spike on one video, needs questions. See how to spot fake followers.
How many subscribers should a YouTube creator have for a brand deal?
There is no minimum that fits every brand. Subscriber bands set the price tier, but views per video, audience location and fit with your buyer decide the result. Many micro channels of 10,000 to 100,000 subscribers suit review-led campaigns. Our rates guide shows asking prices by tier.
Can I use YouTube's own tools to find creators?
YouTube has creator partnership tools, and we explain what we could and could not confirm in our guide to YouTube brand partnership tools in India. They show creators who opted in, which is a useful list but a narrow one, so run your own search alongside.
Should I hire a Shorts creator or a long-form creator?
Hire long-form creators when the product needs explaining or the buyer researches before buying. Hire Shorts creators for cheap reach and for testing hooks. Many plans use both. Our posts on YouTube Shorts and integration versus dedicated video cover each.
