In short
- Snap says over 250 million people use Snapchat monthly in India and about 90 percent of daily users are aged 13 to 34. DataReportal's 213 million is a different measure: advertising audience.
- A creator with a public profile can add Snap's Paid Partnership label. You can boost only if the creator grants Share Snap permission or higher, and Stories must be saved.
- Snap Star thresholds differ between Snap's pages and trade press. Do not treat Snap Star status as the only mark of a good creator.
- Because most daily users are 13 to 34, a campaign aimed at minors raises data-protection duties. Check them before you buy.
Snapchat influencer marketing in India means paying creators who post on Snapchat Stories and Spotlight, then optionally putting ad spend behind their posts. It suits brands whose buyers are 13 to 34 years old, in fashion, beauty, entertainment and consumer apps. It is a weak fit for older buyers, B2B and anything needing long explanations.
This guide goes one level below our guide to influencer marketing in India and sits beside our creator ads and whitelisting work, since Snap's two creator-ad products are cousins of partnership ads on Instagram. We read Snap's own newsroom and Help pages on 1 November 2026 and list what we could not confirm.

How to read the audience numbers
Snap's 250 million is monthly active users. DataReportal's Digital 2026 report counts a Snapchat advertising audience of 213 million in India, which is a modelled reach for ads and not the same measure. Both can be right. Use Snap's number to judge scale and DataReportal's to judge how many people an ad could reach, and ask each creator for their own Insights.
Exchange4media's September 2025 report lists 80 percent of Snapchatters in India using Lenses among its India figures, and names fashion, lifestyle, beauty, entertainment, e-commerce and consumer internet as active brand categories. Snap's own release named Myntra, Flipkart, L'Oréal, Unilever and Reckitt as brand partners for its creator work. Those are Snap's statements, not results.
Snap Stars, and why not to over-trust the badge
A Snap Star has a star next to the name on the profile. Snap's Help page gives no numbers and says no one is entitled to a star regardless of audience size; it looks at engagement, public Stories, authenticity, notability and content quality. Trade press quoted a path of 50,000 followers, 10 million views and 12,000 hours of watch time in 28 days. Snap's monetisation page lists a different set: invitation only, at least 50,000 followers, 15,000 hours of view time over 28 days with 3,000 from Spotlight, and Snap Star status.
Those numbers disagree, so do not rely on any one of them. What matters for a brand is simple. Snap Stars can tag brands without pre-approval, but many good creators are not Stars. Exchange4media reported in September 2025 that creators and managers find the Snap Star path steep and outside-metro creators struggle to qualify, and that on-platform income stays small unless a creator is already big. Exchange4media describes two income routes, on-platform revenue sharing and off-platform brand deals, so smaller creators probably lean on brand deals. That is our inference, and a reason to check that a creator is not overselling their reach.
Three ways to work with creators
| Route | How it works | What the creator does | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brand Partnership (organic plus boost) | The creator tags your brand with the Paid Partnership label on a Story or Spotlight; you approve, then boost it | Makes and posts the content | Needs the right permission level; Stories must be saved |
| Ad Partnership | You make the creative; the ad shows the creator's avatar and name as sender, with your brand as sponsor | Grants a one-time Ad Partner permission | Manual Build campaigns only; permissions expire |
| Agency or creator network | An agency books creators for you | As briefed | Snap describes a national creator-agency network in five cities |
Snap's developer pages set the mechanics. For Brand Partnerships, a creator can start a tag themselves only if they are a Snap Star or have worked with your brand before, and you then approve under Collaborations. Permission levels are Tag Only, Share Snap, and Share Snap and Insights. Tag Only lets you see the post but not boost it or see insights, so the contract must specify Share Snap or higher. Ads made from the post carry a "Paid Partnership with [Brand]" label automatically.
For Ad Partnerships, the creator's one-time permission expires after a set period, and an expired permission can pause an ad. Re-invite creators about a week before expiry. Snap's page says review typically takes one to two hours.
Content rules you can build into the brief
- Vertical 9:16 video.
- Spotlight videos from 5 to 60 seconds; Stories from 3 to 180 seconds.
- No music from Snap's own library in boostable posts.
- Stories expire after 24 hours, so the creator must save them to Memories or Saved Stories to keep them boostable.
- Add the Paid Partnership label on the post, as Snap's Help page instructs, and your own ASCI label on the visual.
These come from Snap's Brand Partnerships page and are the kind of detail that decides whether a post can be boosted at all. Put them in the contract so that a creator who forgets to save the Story owes you a re-post.
Briefing mistakes to avoid
- Booking on follower count. Ask for 28-day Insights and the age split before you pay.
- Forgetting permissions. A Tag Only partnership cannot be boosted, and an expired Ad Partner permission can pause a live ad.
- Letting Stories lapse. Unsaved Stories vanish after 24 hours and take your boost option with them.
- Copying an Instagram brief. Watch the creator's own Snapchat content first and match its pace and tone, since a polished ad cut for Reels may not suit it.
- Ignoring age. Know whether your product and targeting are right for a young, partly under-18 audience.
Rules and risks
ASCI's influencer guidelines apply on every platform. Use the platform label and put a clear label on the visual: at least 3 seconds for a video of 15 seconds or less, and one third of the video for one over 15 seconds and under 2 minutes. The label must be in English or the language of the ad. See the ASCI influencer guidelines explainer. This is general information, not legal advice.
There is a second issue. With about 90 percent of daily Indian users aged 13 to 34, some of your audience will be minors. PIB's March 2026 note says the DPDP Act and Rules require verifiable parental consent and bar tracking, behavioural monitoring and targeted advertising aimed at children. If your campaign could reach under-18s, read our guide to data protection in influencer marketing and get legal advice before you run paid targeting.
What it costs
We found no published rate card for Snapchat creators, so we quote none. Practical approach:
- Ask for the creator's fee on Snapchat and on Instagram, and for Insights screenshots from the last 28 days.
- Anchor against the micro Reel range of ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 and the Story set range of ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 in the influencer rates guide, then adjust for audience fit.
- Price boost rights separately: partnership ads usually carry an extra fee for usage and a media budget that is not part of the creator fee. See whitelisting costs.
Use the cost calculator for the creator fee, and published benchmarks suggest agency fees of 15 to 25 percent of creator spend.
What to measure
Snap's developer page distinguishes impressions (organic and paid together) from paid impressions, and tracks shares and saves, which it says are often higher on collaborative ads. We therefore report: organic and paid impressions separately, shares, saves, cost per 1,000 paid impressions, and downstream actions from tracked links and codes. Compare against the same creator's Instagram Reel; see Instagram partnership ads setup.
Where Snapchat sits against other platforms
Snapchat is a Gen Z reach and AR play, not a replacement for Instagram. Meta says India has the world's largest community of Instagram creators, so supply is deeper there; see Instagram Reels vs Stories for brands and YouTube Shorts influencer marketing. Snap also says it is focusing on regional creators, which overlaps with the apps in Moj, Josh and ShareChat for influencer marketing. For younger audiences, see micro and nano influencer marketing.
If you want us to shortlist Snapchat creators who also work on Instagram and set up the permissions, send us a brief and our team will return a creator plan within 48 hours.

Frequently asked questions
How do brands work with Snapchat creators in India?
There are three routes. A creator adds Snap's Paid Partnership label to a Story or Spotlight and you boost it after approval. Or you run an Ad Partnership, where the ad shows the creator's name and avatar but you make the content. Or you book through an agency or Snap's creator network. Our influencer whitelisting and partnership ads service covers the logic.
What is a Snap Star?
A Snap Star is a creator or public figure whose account Snap has verified with a star next to the name. Snap's Help page says no one is entitled to one regardless of audience size, and weighs engagement, authenticity, notability and content quality. Being a Snap Star does not by itself change a creator's rights. Snap's monetisation programme additionally requires Snap Star status.
Can Indian Snapchat creators earn from Snapchat itself?
Snap's Help pages list India among countries for Spotlight rewards, Creator Midroll Ads in Stories and Lens Creator Rewards. Its monetisation programme is invite-only and asks for at least 50,000 followers, 15,000 hours of view time in 28 days and Snap Star status. Trade press reported in September 2025 that creators and managers call the income negligible unless a creator is already big.
Does a Snapchat influencer post need a disclosure in India?
Yes. ASCI's influencer guidelines apply on every platform. Use Snap's Paid Partnership label where it applies and put a clear label such as Ad or Collaboration on the visual. For video of 15 seconds or less it must show on screen for at least 3 seconds. See our ASCI influencer guidelines explainer. This is general information, not legal advice.
How much do Snapchat influencers charge in India?
We found no published rate card for Snapchat creators. Ask each creator for their fee on Snapchat and on Instagram, and compare with the micro Reel range of ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 in our influencer rates guide. Expect creators with multi-platform audiences to price on their strongest platform, not on Snapchat alone.
Is Snapchat good for marketing to students and Gen Z?
It fits brands whose buyers are 18 to 34, such as fashion, beauty and entertainment, which trade press names as active brand categories. It fits poorly for products bought by older people or for B2B. Snap says about 90 percent of daily users in India are aged 13 to 34, so check the data-protection rules if your campaign could reach under-18s.
