In short
- Ganesh Chaturthi is Saturday 4 September 2027 and the public festival ends on Anant Chaturdashi, Tuesday 14 September. In 2026 it ran Monday 14 to Friday 25 September.
- Three audiences shop differently: home celebrants, mandal visitors and people travelling home. Brief creators for one of them at a time, in Marathi for Maharashtra.
- Any 'eco-friendly' idol or décor claim falls under the CCPA greenwashing guidelines, which cover endorsers. Hold the proof before the creator posts.
- Ten weeks is the working lead time: brief on Monday 28 June 2027. A micro-led Mumbai and Pune plan costs about ₹16 to 17 lakh before GST in our example.
Ganesh Chaturthi influencer campaigns work when they follow the ten days, not the day: décor and idol shopping in the three weeks before, a household cooking and visiting through the festival, and a long public farewell on Anant Chaturdashi. The creators have to live it, which in Maharashtra means Marathi first. This post is the Ganeshotsav slice of our guide to influencer marketing in India, with eleven ideas, 2026 and 2027 dates, a ten-week plan and the rules for eco claims.
It sits in a crowded late summer of the festival marketing calendar for influencers, and our Mumbai and Pune pages cover the local casting and shoot logistics that this post does not repeat.
Ganesh Chaturthi dates for 2026 and 2027
| 2026 | 2027 | |
|---|---|---|
| Ganesh Chaturthi (installation) | Monday 14 September | Saturday 4 September |
| Anant Chaturdashi (final immersion) | Friday 25 September | Tuesday 14 September |
Dates are for New Delhi from Drik Panchang's 2027 page, its 2026 page and its visarjan page. Office Holidays lists the 2027 holiday in several states, including Goa and, as Vinayagar Chathurthi, Puducherry.
In 2027 the festival opens on a Saturday, so the first weekend carries a full two days of visiting, and the second weekend, 11 and 12 September, falls two days before the final immersion. Onam's first day, 3 September, sits one day earlier, and Teachers' Day follows on 5 September; see our Onam playbook. The same weeks hold Raksha Bandhan on 17 August and Janmashtami on 25 August; see Raksha Bandhan campaign ideas and our Janmashtami playbook.
What audiences do online
In our experience there are three audiences, and a brief should pick one.
Home celebrants buy the idol, decorate, cook and invite neighbours. Their content is craft, décor and food, posted in the fortnight before and during the first two days. Many homes immerse the idol earlier than the final day, on day one and a half, three, five or seven.
Mandal visitors go pandal-hopping in the evenings. Their content is routes, queues, lights and crowds, and the useful posts are service guides: where to park, when to avoid the line, how to reach by metro or train.
Travellers go home. Many Mumbai and Pune residents travel to home villages, especially in the Konkan, and migrants in other cities video-call the family altar. Their content is the journey and the nostalgia.
The festival is regional, not national. Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu each have their own name, language and food, and our Maharashtra state playbook covers the largest market.
Eleven Ganesh Chaturthi campaign ideas
Home and kitchen
- The clay idol workshop. Craft and parent creators shape a clay idol on camera and dissolve it at home. Suits clay, craft kits and home brands. The eco claim needs proof; see the rules below.
- Décor under a budget. Home creators style a mandap at fixed budgets, such as ₹2,000 and ₹5,000, with a shopping list. Suits décor, lighting, flowers and home décor and furniture.
- Modak and prasad. Food creators make modak and the festival's sweets in Marathi and regional languages; see FMCG, food and beverage.
- First Ganpati in a new home. Creators who moved house this year show the first festival there. Suits appliances, furniture, paint and real estate.
Community and place
- The pandal service guide. Local creators map eight pandals with queue times, parking and metro options. It is useful, searchable and brand-light; suits mobility apps, cabs and payment brands.
- Aarti, dhol and tasha. Music and dance creators film rehearsals and playlists. Check licences; see music copyright in influencer content.
- Ganpati at work and campus. Office and student creators film the festival at their desks and halls; see LinkedIn and B2B creators.
- Gifts for neighbours. Gifting creators show sweets, dry fruit and décor hampers in set price bands; see gifting and seeding.
Travel and distance
- Gaon chalo. Mumbai and Pune creators film the journey to the village: trains, buses, snacks, power banks and the first meal. Suits travel, mobile and food brands.
- The altar on a video call. Creators who live in other cities show how they keep Ganpati away from home, with gifts that travel. Suits courier, gifting and telecom brands.
- Eco-immersion, explained. A creator shows how a home immerses a clay idol in a bucket and uses the water for plants. Calm, practical and proof-based.
Ideas 5 and 9 are the two brands underbuy. They give the audience something to use, and they let a brand show up without placing a product beside the idol.
Eco claims and what the law says about idols
Ganeshotsav has its own debate over plaster of Paris idols. In June 2025 the Bombay High Court allowed the making of plaster of Paris Ganpati idols but said they could not be immersed in natural water bodies without its leave, and asked the state to decide a policy, The Week reported. We have not confirmed the position for 2027, so check the civic body's current order before you brief. Never shame a household for its choice; say what you do, not what others should not.
The bigger risk for a brand is the word "eco-friendly". The CCPA's greenwashing guidelines of 15 October 2024 apply, under section 3, to an advertising agency or endorser whose service is used, so a creator's claim is your claim. Under section 5(a), terms such as "eco-friendly", "natural" and "sustainable" cannot be used without accurate, accessible qualifiers and substantiation, and section 5(c) wants verifiable evidence from independent studies or third-party certification. Say what the claim covers, as in "unbaked clay that dissolves in a bucket at home", and link the evidence. Our environment day post turns this into a claims sheet.
A ten-week plan for Ganesh Chaturthi 2027
| Date (2027) | Weeks to 4 September | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Mon 28 Jun | 10 | Budget agreed; brief issued; claims and evidence sheet built |
| Mon 12 Jul | 8 | Marathi and regional creators booked; mandal permissions requested |
| Mon 26 Jul | 6 | Contracts signed; kits dispatched by Fri 6 Aug |
| Mon 9 Aug | 4 | Drafts approved; creator ads set up |
| Mon 16 Aug | 3 | Wave 1 live: décor, clay and shopping content; Raksha Bandhan on 17 August is busy |
| Mon 23 Aug | 2 | Wave 2: modak, gifting and the pandal service guide; Janmashtami on 25 August |
| Sat 4 Sep | 0 | Stories only; no hard sell on installation day |
| Sun 5 to Mon 13 Sep | 0 | Visiting, gifting and travel content; mandal guides refreshed |
| Tue 14 Sep | 0 | Anant Chaturdashi: creators' own Stories; brands stay quiet |
| Mon 20 Sep | after | Report; collect UGC; plan Navratri |
Ten weeks suits the micro and mid-tier mix in the example below. For mega creators or a mandal sponsorship, start earlier.
Casting and briefing
- Marathi first for Maharashtra. Brief in Marathi as well as English and let the creator write. A Hindi script dubbed into Marathi shows.
- Check where the audience lives. A Pune creator may have mostly Gulf followers. Ask for screenshots; see how to read audience insights.
- Split Mumbai and Pune. The two cities celebrate at different scales. Mumbai is mandal-led, while Pune is organised around its old peths and neighbourhood mandals.
- Plan for rain. Build a backup date and an indoor fallback; see monsoon influencer marketing.
- Brief the kit. Idols and fragile décor arrive broken; see product seeding logistics.
What to measure
Count orders and code redemptions by creator and by city, the share of orders from Marathi creators against English ones, and saves on the décor and service-guide posts. For kits, track the delivery cut-off, since a late order is a lost sale. Look at branded search in the fortnight before 4 September. Compare against the same weeks before the festival, and keep the creators who did well for Navratri and Diwali, instead of rebuilding the list each season.
Budget notes
Use the ranges in our influencer rates guide: a nano Reel about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000, a micro Reel ₹8,000 to ₹80,000, a micro Story set ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 and a mid-tier Reel ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh. Add about 35 percent for usage rights in our plans. Published guides say creator-ad (whitelisting) rights add 60 to 120 percent over organic, with media spend separate.
Mandal tie-ups are sponsorships, not creator fees. They are priced by the organisers, need written permission and sit outside our rate table. A rush under 48 hours adds 25 to 40 percent in published rate cards, and Ganeshotsav shoots get rushed, so lock approvals early. Management fees run about 15 to 25 percent of creator spend in published benchmarks. Try the mix in our cost calculator.
Sensitivities and things to avoid
- The idol is a deity, not a prop. Keep it on a clean, raised seat. Never put it on the floor, near footwear or beside a branded shelf.
- No deity imagery on footwear, innerwear or disposable items. Do not print the idol on a product or an offer banner.
- No alcohol or non-vegetarian food in frame. Keep promotions of both away from festival content.
- Do not crop, filter or joke about the idol's form. Ask the creator how they would present it.
- Immersion is emotional and crowded. Do not tie a product to it, and do not ask creators to film in dense crowds.
- Do not shame idol choices. The plaster of Paris question is contested; show your clay, not their idol.
- Respect the mandal. Shoot inside only with the organisers' consent, and never frame it as a free backdrop.
- Noise and neighbours. Late-night loudspeaker rules vary by city, so do not brief content that needs them.
Disclosure, labels and tax
Under the ASCI influencer guidelines, money, free products, gifts and barter are a material connection. The label goes upfront and prominently: on the visual for a Story, on screen for at least 3 seconds in a Reel of 15 seconds or less. The brand shares responsibility and must be able to back its claims, including "clay" and "eco" wording. Our disclosure line templates give copy.
Kits a creator keeps count towards the ₹20,000 yearly threshold for 10 percent TDS under section 194R, with exemptions for some small individual creators; see TDS 194R and GST on influencer payments. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.
Next steps
Pair this with the festival calendar, our Mumbai and Pune pages, and the micro-influencer service that runs the creator mix above. Navratri follows in a month; see Navratri and Durga Puja campaigns. To get a Marathi-first creator plan and cost estimate within 48 hours of a brief call, contact us.

Frequently asked questions
When is Ganesh Chaturthi in 2027?
For New Delhi, Drik Panchang lists Ganesh Chaturthi on Saturday 4 September 2027, with the final immersion on Anant Chaturdashi, Tuesday 14 September. In 2026 it was Monday 14 September, ending on Friday 25 September. Many homes immerse earlier, on day one and a half, three, five or seven, so contract a flexible window.
Which creators work best for Ganesh Chaturthi campaigns?
Can a creator call an idol or decoration eco-friendly?
Only with accurate qualifiers and evidence. The CCPA's 2024 greenwashing guidelines cover endorsers and list 'eco-friendly' among terms that cannot be used bare. Say what the claim covers, such as unbaked clay that dissolves in a home bucket, and link the evidence. Read our Consumer Affairs endorsement guidelines post.
How early should we plan a Ganesh Chaturthi influencer campaign?
Ten weeks. For 4 September 2027, brief on 28 June, book creators by 12 July, ship kits by 6 August and approve drafts by 9 August. Raksha Bandhan on 17 August and Janmashtami on 25 August fill the same weeks, so Marathi creators with festive availability book out early.
How much does a Ganesh Chaturthi influencer campaign cost?
Published rates run about ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 for a nano Reel, ₹8,000 to ₹80,000 for a micro Reel and ₹50,000 to ₹3.5 lakh for a mid-tier Reel. Add usage rights, creator ads and a management fee of about 15 to 25 percent. See the influencer rates guide.
Can creators film inside a mandal or at immersion?
Only with the organisers' permission, and brand content at an immersion is rarely wise. Crowds are dense, devotees are emotional and a product shot beside the idol reads badly. Plan mandal content as a service guide, such as routes and queue times, and keep immersion to the creator's own Stories.
Do the same ideas work in Goa, Karnataka and Telangana?
The structure carries over, but not the script. Goa, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu each celebrate with their own language, food and idol traditions. Use our regional influencer marketing service to cast by language rather than translating a Marathi brief.
